Going to focus on the membership offer, but this year (as well as this project) there is a policy focus on fundraising support for small charities - see policy document. Already excellent examples of the infrastructure support mentioned by the report – TSSW -
Merged with the Public Fundraising Association in 2016 – our compliance team runs mystery shopping programs in telephone, door-to-door, street and private site fundraising.
Our regional groups are set up to provide a forum for discussion and networking by geographical area. They are run by members on a voluntary basis and you will find contact details on their pages on the website.
Special interest groups are set up to provide a forum for discussion and networking by fundraising specialism. All our groups are run by members on a voluntary basis. IoF has just announced they will be starting a Donor Experience SIG as part of IoF’s commitment to the Commission on Donor Experience.
Membership also includes access to the Forum – discussion area for sharing hints, tips and documents etc
The Institute of Fundraising is the leading provider of fundraising training in the UK. We believe passionately in the importance of ongoing professional development throughout all fundraisers’ careers.
Introductory Certificate - This new course covers the same areas of the National Occupational Standards in Fundraising, but with more emphasis on practical application. This qualification is designed for those who have been in post less than six months and who need to improve their current understanding; those not yet working in the sector and volunteers and trustees who wish to extend their knowledge of fundraising.
Certificate in Fundraising - The Certificate in Fundraising gives a solid grounding in the theoretical concepts and principles behind fundraising. It examines the role of fundraising within the sector and the role it plays in society. This qualification is designed for practitioners responsible for the frontline implementation of fundraising activities. As a guide you should have a minimum of one to three years fundraising experience either in a paid or voluntary capacity.
Diploma in Fundraising - The Diploma in Fundraising builds on your existing experience and skills to consolidate and expand your knowledge in all key aspects of fundraising, including strategic planning and innovative techniques involved in e-fundraising. This qualification contains significant elements of management and strategy and is designed for those whose roles are concerned with these areas. As a guide you should have a minimum of three years fundraising experience either in a paid or voluntary capacity and have management experience.
International Advanced Diploma - You are expected to have been working at a senior level for a minimum of five years with a proven knowledge of each major area of fundraising and experience of senior fundraising management. The content is highly strategic – you will need skills in analysis, synthesis and evaluation to succeed.
Training courses – all over UK run by regional committees.
- recent/future courses in Cardiff include Community Fundraising (Developing and Empowering Your Volunteers) and Securing Your Future (Legacy Marketing on a Limited Budget)
Half Day Sessions - series of half-day events aiming to answer some of the biggest challenges facing fundraisers. Current focus is the implementation of GDPR (roadshow of sessions around the country). The team welcome suggestions for session topics
National fundraising Convention – show 2016 programme. Sessions, networking, plenaries (videos now available on IoF website and fb)
Coaches recruited – already happening, welcome applications from other people interested. Min.10 years experience working within the third sector in Wales. They will receive a flat day rate for this work. Coaches are welcome to work with multiple charities.
Charity Applies – rolling application process. Panel meets every 6-8 weeks to consider. Applications are welcome from charities that have a minimum of two members of staff and maximum VOLUNTARY income of £50,000. Applications should be signed by staff and volunteers.
Visits & Recommendation – PC comes out to visit charity in situ, to gather more information and complete pro-forma recommendation to the Panel. Any charities not accepted will receive a resource pack and feedback from the panel.
Coaching – Four days coaching will then be planned for the coaching. This can be in person or virtually, could include training sessions, workshops etc etc. However this MUST include at least one session with staff/volunteers and at least one session with the trustees. The four days need to have been completed within four months from the charity signing the project agreement.
Strategy Developed – the coach will SUPPORT the charity to develop a new fundraising strategy. The strategy should be written by the charity itself, helping to build investment in the planned activities.
Report – The coach completes a report of the work undertaken for the panel and completes a time sheet. The charity signs off the time sheet and submits the strategy for review by the project coordinator. Spot checks will also be made by the panel to ensure the quality of work being undertaken is consistent across the project. Several charity staff/trustees will be asked to complete evaluation forms to give a sense of how this project has impacted the whole organisation.
Review visit – After six months, the Project Coordinator will visit the charity again to review the initial impact involvement in the charity has had on their fundraising
In Wales, it is usual for fundraisers to be solely responsible for fundraising in their organisation, so to build on the support provided through our regional committees, we’ve planned additional executive coaching (with no specific outcomes required) within the project.
6 days valued at £2800, but we will look to be as accommodating as possible to get the best value from the coaching for the individual/charity.
The project will subsidise the costs of the coaching, with charities being asked to contribute £1100 towards the total value of £2800.
There will be pages for the project sometime in 2017
