Three events were held in Tanzania to mark Fascination of Plants Day. Over 50 students from a local school visited the IITA research institute where they learned about the importance of plants from the director and toured laboratories and greenhouses. The students saw research on plant diseases and food science. Separately, an IITA scientist gave a presentation to grade 3 students who have been studying plants, teaching them about tissue culture bananas and the processes of transpiration and photosynthesis. The children were intrigued to learn how research is helping farmers through developing disease-resistant plants.
