Participants from different countries also presented their country report in the workshop. There were also study tours. Three events were held in Tanzania to mark Fascination of Plants Day. Over 50 students from a local school visited the IITA research institute where they learned about the importance of plants from the director and toured laboratories and greenhouses. The students saw research on plant diseases and food science. Separately, an IITA scientist gave a presentation to grade 3 students who have been studying plants, teaching them about tissue culture bananas and the processes of transpiration and photosynthesis. The children were intrigued to learn how research is helping farmers through developing disease-resistant plants.

This study examined the effects of jojoba seed extract and riboflavin on preventing transmission of Iris Yellow Spot Virus (IYSV) by Thrips tabaci to onion plants. IYSV is an important virus affecting onion crops worldwide, including in Egypt where it was first reported infecting onions in 2004. Thrips tabaci is the main vector of IYSV. The study tested different concentrations of jojoba seed extract and riboflavin alone or in combination on T. tabaci adults to determine their ability to prevent transmission of IYSV to onion plants. Results showed that certain concentrations of the extracts were able to significantly reduce transmission of the virus compared to the control treatment.

BAP (6-Benzyl Amino Purine), KN (Kinetin) are most widely used cytokinins for shoot proliferation and IAA (Indole -3-acetic acid), NAA (Naphathalene acetic acid) are widely used auxins for root induction.

This document reports on a comparative study of bacteria and fungi associated with spoilage of banana and orange sold in Sokoto, Nigeria. Samples of spoiled banana and orange were collected from local markets. The samples were inoculated on nutrient agar and potato dextrose agar to isolate bacteria and fungi, respectively. Bacteria from orange showed a higher number of species than banana. Aspergillus species appeared more frequently in banana samples than orange. Biochemical tests identified isolated bacteria, including Aeromonas, Serratia, Shigella, Proteus, Staphylococcus, and Yersinia species. Pineapple Ananas comosus is an indispensible fruit that is cherished by many people due to its huge health benefits. It is peeled and sold in many markets and road sides for easy accessibility. The presence of bacteria in the peeled and ready to eat fruits was checked in this study. Peeled, sliced and cellophane packaged pineapple fruits were purchased from Eke Awka Market in Anambra State Nigeria. Nutrient agar was used to carry out bacterial isolation using pour plate technique. Results showed that colony count of the pineapple fruits ranged from 3.5 9.5 2cfu ml of the rinsed water. The isolates were identified on the basis of their colony and morphological features as well as biochemical and sugar fermentation tests. Gene sequencing was used to confirm the species of some of the isolates. A total of six bacteria species were isolated and identified with frequencies as Streptococcus spp 13.9 , Pseudomonas aeruginosa 22.2 , Staphylococcus aureus 25.0 , Micrococcus luteus 11.1 , Escherichia coli 19.5 and Staphylococcus epidermidis 8.3 . Staphylococcus aureus has the highest frequency followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Staphylococcus epidermidis has the least frequency. Almost all the isolates are pathogenic in nature and their presence in the consumable fruits indicates possible health problems to the consumers. The presence of E. coli indicates direct or indirect fecal contamination. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of extracts from Origanum Vulgare (oregano) as a mosquito repellent. Specifically, it seeks to determine how long the repellency lasts, compare its effectiveness to synthetic repellents, and rate its efficacy on a scale of 1-10. The study hypothesizes that the repellency will last 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the amount of extract used, that the organic repellent will be more effective than synthetic options, and that it will rate an 8 on the effectiveness scale. Mushroom has multi beneficial effects for human welfare. The Medicinal mushrooms are widely used as traditional medicinal components for the treatment of various diseases and related health problems. Most of the medicinal extracts from mushroom are different forms of polysaccharides which strengthens the human immune system with no side effect. Medicinal mushroom Ganoderma species investigation has focused on the biological response of microorganisms. The antimicrobial efficacy of various solvent extracts 20g ml of Ganoderma lucidum was treated against five different bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella sp and four different fungal pathogens like Aspergillus niger, Fussarium sp, Penicillum sp and Candida sp. Ethanol extract exhibited maximum antibacterial and antifungal activity, while the most susceptible bacterium observed was Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and fungi was fusarium sp. respectively. ABSTRACT- The present study was planned to study the antimicrobial activity of different plant extract against selected microorganisms. The plants used in the present study were Ocimum sanctum (Tulsi), Withania somnifera (Ashwgandha), Santalum album (Chandan), Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis), and shatavari (Asparagus racemosus). The extract from the leaves of these plants (are) used in malaria, bronchitis, gastric disorders, cough, cold etc. To test efficiency of some common plants extract against E. coli, Salmonella typhi, Proteus vulgaris, Staphylococcus aureus. Contrary to the synthetic drugs, antimicrobials of plant origin are not associated with many side effects and have an enormous therapeutic potential to heal many infectious diseases. The present investigation is therefore, undertaken to test the efficiency of some of the common plant extracts against some plants and human pathogens, i.e. E. coli and S. aureus. In this project work, we studied the different parts of medicinal plants of Latur, Osmanabad region used for curing different type of diseases specially skin diseases. Some plants have active components which show antimicrobial activity. These Herbal plants are beneficial to human being in therapeutic practice. Skin diseases are difficult conditions to live with, to save the very least. Though some skin diseases may cause minimal discomfort, the visual effects of the conditions can cause significant self esteem and confidence issues. The majority of skin diseases cause scarring or disfigurement. Skin diseases run the gambit from barely noticeable to fatal.

Fungal diseases are one of major constraints on groundnut production in Burkina Faso. Among these diseases, early leaf spot caused by Cercospora arachidicola (Hori.) is one of the most important economic diseases of groundnut. Aim of contributing to search effective control methods against this disease, we undertook the present study, which consisted in (i) study morphological diversity of different Cercospora arachidicola isolates (ii) study the level of pathogenicity of Cercospora arachidicola strains identified (iii) evaluate the efficacy of some bio-fungicides on the strains identified. The study was carried out in 14 villages in the Hauts Bassins and Boucle du Mouhoun regions of Burkina Faso with regard to prospecting and sample collection, and at the INERA Bobo Dioulasso plant pathology laboratory for isolation, identification, pathogenicity and biofungicide efficacy testing. A total of five strains of Cercospora arachidicola were identified. The pathogenicity test was used to classify the five strains according to their virulence. In decreasing order of virulence, the strains were Fara, Darsa, Logo, Santi and Kod. In vitro evaluation of biofungicide efficacy shows that PLANSAIN biofungicide provides better control of Cercospora arachidicola strains. Trichoderma hazanium, the active ingredient in PLANSAIN, inhibits the radial growth of Cercospora arachidicola strains to a greater extent.

This study identified pathogenic microbes associated with the deterioration of sweet orange fruits in Nigeria. Samples were collected from four open markets and tested for microbes. The following microbes were isolated: Aspergillus spp, Staphylococcus spp, Escherichia spp, Rhizopus spp, and Shigella spp. Rhizopus spp and Aspergillus spp were found to be the most active and pathogenic microbes, able to infect both infected and uninfected orange samples. This study examined the diversity and antimicrobial activity of fungal endophyte communities associated with three plant species in Brazilian savanna ecosystems. A total of 93 fungal endophyte isolates were obtained from the plants and identified through DNA sequencing. The most common genera isolated were Colletotrichum from Myrciaria floribunda and Alchornea castaneifolia, and Mycosphaerella from Eugenia aff. bimarginata. Isolation and Identification of Bacteria from Peeled and Ready to Eat Pineapp...
Pineapple Ananas comosus is an indispensible fruit that is cherished by many people due to its huge health benefits. It is peeled and sold in many markets and road sides for easy accessibility. The presence of bacteria in the peeled and ready to eat fruits was checked in this study. Peeled, sliced and cellophane packaged pineapple fruits were purchased from Eke Awka Market in Anambra State Nigeria. Nutrient agar was used to carry out bacterial isolation using pour plate technique. Results showed that colony count of the pineapple fruits ranged from 3.5 9.5 2cfu ml of the rinsed water. The isolates were identified on the basis of their colony and morphological features as well as biochemical and sugar fermentation tests. Gene sequencing was used to confirm the species of some of the isolates. A total of six bacteria species were isolated and identified with frequencies as Streptococcus spp 13.9 , Pseudomonas aeruginosa 22.2 , Staphylococcus aureus 25.0 , Micrococcus luteus 11.1 , Escherichia coli 19.5 and Staphylococcus epidermidis 8.3 . Staphylococcus aureus has the highest frequency followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Staphylococcus epidermidis has the least frequency. Almost all the isolates are pathogenic in nature and their presence in the consumable fruits indicates possible health problems to the consumers. The presence of E. coli indicates direct or indirect fecal contamination. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of extracts from Origanum Vulgare (oregano) as a mosquito repellent. Specifically, it seeks to determine how long the repellency lasts, compare its effectiveness to synthetic repellents, and rate its efficacy on a scale of 1-10. The study hypothesizes that the repellency will last 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the amount of extract used, that the organic repellent will be more effective than synthetic options, and that it will rate an 8 on the effectiveness scale. If conducted, the study would use an experimental design to test these hypotheses and help identify a safe and effective natural mosquito repellent.

Mushroom has multi beneficial effects for human welfare. The Medicinal mushrooms are widely used as traditional medicinal components for the treatment of various diseases and related health problems. Most of the medicinal extracts from mushroom are different forms of polysaccharides which strengthens the human immune system with no side effect. Medicinal mushroom Ganoderma species investigation has focused on the biological response of microorganisms. The antimicrobial efficacy of various solvent extracts 20g ml of Ganoderma lucidum was treated against five different bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella sp and four different fungal pathogens like Aspergillus niger, Fussarium sp, Penicillum sp and Candida sp. Ethanol extract exhibited maximum antibacterial and antifungal activity, while the most susceptible bacterium observed was Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and fungi was fusarium sp. respectively. ABSTRACT- The present study was planned to study the antimicrobial activity of different plant extract against selected microorganisms. The plants used in the present study were Ocimum sanctum (Tulsi), Withania somnifera (Ashwgandha), Santalum album (Chandan), Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis), and shatavari (Asparagus racemosus). The extract from the leaves of these plants (are) used in malaria, bronchitis, gastric disorders, cough, cold etc. To test efficiency of some common plants extract against E. coli, Salmonella typhi, Proteus vulgaris, Staphylococcus aureus. Contrary to the synthetic drugs, antimicrobials of plant origin are not associated with many side effects and have an enormous therapeutic potential to heal many infectious diseases. The present investigation is therefore, undertaken to test the efficiency of some of the common plant extracts against some plants and human pathogens, i.e. E. coli and S. aureus. In this project work, we studied the different parts of medicinal plants of Latur, Osmanabad region used for curing different type of diseases specially skin diseases. Some plants have active components which show antimicrobial activity. These Herbal plants are beneficial to human being in therapeutic practice. Skin diseases are difficult conditions to live with, to save the very least. Though some skin diseases may cause minimal discomfort, the visual effects of the conditions can cause significant self esteem and confidence issues. The majority of skin diseases cause scarring or disfigurement. Skin diseases run the gambit from barely noticeable to fatal.

Fungal diseases are one of major constraints on groundnut production in Burkina Faso. Among these diseases, early leaf spot caused by Cercospora arachidicola (Hori.) is one of the most important economic diseases of groundnut. Aim of contributing to search effective control methods against this disease, we undertook the present study, which consisted in (i) study morphological diversity of different Cercospora arachidicola isolates (ii) study the level of pathogenicity of Cercospora arachidicola strains identified (iii) evaluate the efficacy of some bio-fungicides on the strains identified. The study was carried out in 14 villages in the Hauts Bassins and Boucle du Mouhoun regions of Burkina Faso with regard to prospecting and sample collection, and at the INERA Bobo Dioulasso plant pathology laboratory for isolation, identification, pathogenicity and biofungicide efficacy testing. A total of five strains of Cercospora arachidicola were identified. The pathogenicity test was used to classify the five strains according to their virulence. In decreasing order of virulence, the strains were Fara, Darsa, Logo, Santi and Kod. In vitro evaluation of biofungicide efficacy shows that PLANSAIN biofungicide provides better control of Cercospora arachidicola strains. Trichoderma hazanium, the active ingredient in PLANSAIN, inhibits the radial growth of Cercospora arachidicola strains to a greater extent.

This study identified pathogenic microbes associated with the deterioration of sweet orange fruits in Nigeria. Samples were collected from four open markets and tested for microbes. The following microbes were isolated: Aspergillus spp, Staphylococcus spp, Escherichia spp, Rhizopus spp, and Shigella spp. Rhizopus spp and Aspergillus spp were found to be the most active and pathogenic microbes, able to infect both infected and uninfected orange samples. The prevalence of microbes varied between markets, with Oja-Oba market found to have the highest overall microbial load. This study examined the diversity and antimicrobial activity of fungal endophyte communities associated with three plant species in Brazilian savanna ecosystems. A total of 93 fungal endophyte isolates were obtained from the plants and identified through DNA sequencing. The most common genera isolated were Colletotrichum from Myrciaria floribunda and Alchornea castaneifolia, and Mycosphaerella from Eugenia aff. bimarginata. Crude extracts of the fungal isolates were screened for antimicrobial activity, with 38 extracts showing activity against pathogenic microorganisms. - 2. B) SOUTH INDIA STUDY TOUR. Firstly, Banana plantation in Gundulpet. In gundlupete we went for Farmer who grown Banana, dragon fruit and rose apple . I observed that Banana grown by ratoon for 7 years has taken resistance for disease, pests and lodging problems. Secondly, Banana research centre, Trichy. Here Scientist K.N.Shivan gave suffiecent information on Banana cultivation and their pest, disease management. I also observed the plantation was so good maintained, without the pest and disease attack for the germplasm they maintained. They were also working on Pest management and resistance for rhizome weevil in banana. They were using crop management practices as Bio agents, bunch sprays and bunch cover for better quality banana.
- 3. TNAU, Tamil nadu. Here we went for Horticulture section and we met Asst. Prof of Fruit science Dr.Veda and she took us for the field in the campus. In the field , I observed on Mango and sapota mainly. Mango they practiced UHDP for more yield, but there training and pruning was the major operation, and after pruning Boredaux paste should be pasted for crop protection. In Sapota observed for Inarch grafting, so while grating should take care about pest affected rootstocks Or scion plant, it may cause for secondary infections after it’s growth.

And also about Nucleo poly hedrosis viruses(NPV) against Helicoverpa armigera and Leucanate pheromone for Brinjal shoot and fruit Borer.

In third section that is Biology section I have observed collections of some animals, insects and snakes etc. In Insect bolck there are some beautiful collections of insects, They have classified according to classification of insects and made display for the people to get knowledge about that. UHS, BAGALKOT Firstly , Horticulture extension and research Center, Tidugundi . Here Dr. Gonagai explained about the crops grown and research going on arid crops mainly. He told about Crop regulation for pomegranate to control or decrease the pests attack during rainy season, so after this season we can get a good quality fruits.

We observed the campus first and at last Entomology lecturer taken to his lab, he showed some specimens collected from students And also he gave some information on coffee stem borers, stick and leaf insects, which are available mainly in malnad areas. Then i observed the collection in lab and the charts they have made was nice and attractive for me.
