Since the beginning of time, every being on Earth has slept. Along with sleeping, dreams appear. From
the mind, dreams come and can often show one s deepest thoughts. These dreams have endless
interpretations and an impact on future actions. Because dreams can mean anything and are the
foundation for more intense feelings, dreams were used in the earliest form of literature. The Epic of
Gilgamesh uses the concept of dreams to explain Gilgamesh s future ambitions. Gilgamesh s dreams
provide visions compiled of different ideas and the way he interprets those dreams affect the decisions
he makes.
In one of Gilgamesh s dreams, he views a meteor, fell down from heaven (Sanders 2). Then his
mother, Ninsun, announces it is Gilgamesh s brother, Enkidu. However, Ninsun takes from his dream
that she created Enkidu and he will love Gilgamesh forever. These discoveries indicate whoever is the
meteor is going to be Gilgamesh s family. Although Gilgamesh feels loved, he doesn t feel the
companionship that his mother feels with Enkidu. It is also believed as symbolism for the life death
cycle (Garth 13). This symbol is the constant circle of life and death. When one dies, another comes
onto Earth. Gilgamesh s has died in a sense and Enkidu was born to help rebuild Gilgamesh. This is
hinted because Enkidu has been created, and has started a new life for both himself and Gilgamesh.

woman s lives, Cunningham uses a wide range of metaphors to help mean something in one story and
tie into the next woman s story. Using deconstructive interpretation to investigate these strategically
placed metaphors can be difficult and exciting, yet challenging.
The flow of the novel starts as Woolf finds the opening line of her new novel: Mrs. Dalloway decided
she would buy the flowers herself. The flowers would proof an important metaphor in the book. This
thought of buying the flowers herself would link Woolf and Clarissa. Clarissa states the same words to
her lover in preparing for Richard s party. And yet the flowers would reappear in Laura Browns life as

Thank You Ma am is an American short story written by Langston Hughes. The story was published in
1958; however, some people, including me, seem to believe that it was written in the 1930 s due to the
racial undertones (www.americanliterature.com 1). Also, Langston wrote many of his short stories in
the 1930 s. In the story, a boy named Roger tries to steal a purse from what seems to be a large,
African American, elderly lady named Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. When Roger reaches out
and snatches the purse, he loses his balance and falls flat on his back. Mrs. Jones simply gives him a
swift kick in the rear and tells him to get up. Then, instead of continuing to beat him, she sees his dirty
face, and her motherly instincts resurface. She carries the boy home, makes him wash his face, cooks
him a hot meal, and then gives him the money that he was trying to steal. Why she does this, I do not
quite understand, but the traits such as her size, strength, name, and motherly instincts may provide
the reader with a clear explanation of the woman Langston Hughes was portraying throughout this
story as well as provide insight as to why others have seen the character as a symbolic feature of
slavery.

First Grade Classroom Observation
Today I went to Sunrise Elementary to observe Ms. Thune s first grade classroom. The teacher was
extremely friendly and has only been teaching for three years. Right away we headed to recess to pick

Whenever they got noisy she would say a new catchy phrase. For example, 1 2 3 eyes on me , hands
on top everyone stop , let s use our level 1 voice , and Hey 1st Grade in a singing tone which they

there was forty first graders together for Science class. The other class of first graders joined our class
and the substitute teacher had a harsher approach and got upset easier with students. During the

The toothpicks I thought were probably not the best idea because of safety reasons and many students
complained about their sticky fingers. When the other class joined it was noisy and Ms.Thune had a

Gun Violence in the United States of America
Every day there is another story in the news about excessive gun violence, accidents with guns
involving children who found loaded guns in the house or unnecessary gun violence by police forces.
Due to the US allowing and making it so easy for citizens to have guns and for their security forces to
shoot without strict rules or consequences, lots of innocent people are killed without having any way
to defend themselves.
ICCPR
US is in violation of their human rights obligations under article 6 of the ICCPR right to life because it
s not protecting the lives of its citizens, it is allowing excessive gun violence (by police forces) and it
has insufficient violations of guns by people who are not even supposed to possess guns. The US is
especially in violation because it fails to control its police department on the use of gun violence.
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) is an international treaty, which
entered into force 23 March 1976. The United States of America signed the treaty in 1977 and ratified
it in 1992. The main purpose of the ICCPR is to protect human rights, as it protects civil, political,
economic, social and cultural rights. The ICCPR addresses the right to life and that nobody should be
deprived of that right. However, the current gun violence in the United States is taking away the right
to life.
