known for their two & four wheeler Hire Purchase finance business and later
pre owned Cars under the Brand name of JAINS CAR SHOPPE, have opened
their new state-of-the-art modern Car Service Centre at Koyambedu, the
travel hub of Chennai. This centre is an exclusive Nissan Dealership Service

In this edition of our newsletter we would look into the crucial role of a CFO
in aligning IT with business. Let’s dive deep…
Many organisations, even at the enterprise level, consider IT departmental
role as only a supporting function rather than utilising it as a business
enabler. Thus many key users do not contribute much towards the strategies
and operations of this function.
The resultant is that the senior management resources do not involve in
executional efforts, post the project initiation stages. This difference in
rightly discerning the technological issues involved and applying the right
priorities is essentially the reality now. Another important benefit that has
been overlooked is that the business domain is unable utilise the full
potential of well executed IT strategy’s effect on the core business.
Many businesses only take-up short-term “patch works” of overhaul existing
IT infrastructure, instead of investing in long term improvements that
enhance the operational systems. Such change of course, would deeply
impact and transform businesses.
Few key top management executive guide their team on deriving value from
technology initiatives. What benefits can we derive? Or rather…
What CFOs Will Do?
Due to the fact that, many a places, the IT function reports to the CFO, they
are in the best position to better align IT with the business. Few pointers are
given below:
 Since CFO is part of the management function, they understand the
overall business process. Thus while budgeting the company operations, they
are able to define a specific component for the IT budget as well, which
improves fund management and better visibility for IT investments.
 CFO will guide the IT Team on detailed planning and objectives required
for the business. This process will create greater business alignment by
defining IT objectives and goals as a part of business goals.
 CFO will apply KPIs that assess the business impact of IT. This acts as a
measurement of IT benefits vs. spending, and thus accordingly prioritise
future investments.

8.  CFO only can say how the IT budget is justified within the overall
budgeting, in terms of revenue contribution or cost optimisation.
 CFO can understand future spending requirements as well as business
needs and thus balance operational and strategic IT needs.
 Business intelligence and data analytics will be driven by CFOs for the
desired outcome for organisations.
 CFOs are best positioned to make major IT projects that can pay for
themselves and even reap benefits through profits in the future. CFOs can
insist and monitor whether the IT architecture that models the organization's
technical capabilities is aligned with the business architecture.
 ERP initiates, will to be driven by a steering committee, of which the CFO
is definitely plays a key role. This would ensure optimal project cost with
timely project deliverables.
