Human rights in Turkey
1. HUMAN RIGHTS
Human rights are moral principles that set out certain
standards of human behaviour. Human rights aim at
developing love, respect and friendship between people
regardless of their race, religion, color, age or sex.
3. FREE COURSE BOOKS
• On the first day of the academic year, primary,
secondary and high school students are given free
course books.
4. STUDENTS’ CLOTHES
• Students don’t have to wear a uniform if the
school they attend has accepted casual clothes by
asking parents’ will.
5. OPTIONAL SUBJECTS
• The students have the opportunity of studying any
languages spoken in Turkey as an optional subject
besides Turkish.
6. EDUCATION SYSTEM
• The compulsory education in Turkey has been
extended to 12 years since 2012-2013 academic
year.
7. BUSSED EDUCATION
• Students living in a village whose schools are
closed because of rare population are taken to the
nearest town and given their lunch for free by the
government.
8. DISABLED PEOPLE
• Disabled students continue their education in a
rehabilition center after attending government
schools.
10. PUBLIC OFFICERS
• Public officers have more union rights and they
can sign joint agreement with the government.
11. PUBLIC OFFICERS
• Although public officers’ union rights have been
improved, some public officers don’t have the
right of joining any union and striking.
12. PUBLIC OFFICERS
• Restriction of clothes for women working at public
offices has been abolished and their freedom has
been improved.
13. LABOURS
• Especially in small enterprises labours are still
working without any insurance. Thus they have
problems with health and retirement rights.
14. EMPLOYMENT OF WOMEN
• Although the rate of working women has been
increasing, it isn’t good enough. The rate of
working women is about 35%.
15. SYRIAN REFUGEES
• There are nearly 700000 Syrian refugees in Turkey.
Most of them house in container villages and
camps in especially 4 cities close to Syria.
16. SYRIAN REFUGEES
• The living circumstances in the camps are praised
by the observers of UN High Commissioner for
Refugees and The European Commission
Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Unit.
17. SYRIAN REFUGEES
• Syrian refugees are being regularly supported and
paid a wage during their stay in Turkey by the
government.
18. SMOKING BAN
• By executing the smoking ban in closed areas, it
has been provided to keep non-smokers healthy.
