2. IDEOLOGY
• Islam has made it mandatory for both male and
female to get education
• Article 25A of the constitution of Islamic Republic
of Pakistan says that education is the fundamental
right of every citizen
3. REALITY
• According to global gender report 2018 by World
Economic Forum Pakistan ranks overall 139 out
149 in educational attainment
• There is more enrollment of men in educational
institutions then women
4. FACTS WITH THIS REGARD
• There is visible difference between the enrollment of women and
men in in educational institutions
• Gap between enrollment of men and women is less from primary to
higher secondary education but but it is more at degree level
• There are 38 percent boys and 62 percent girls in public sector
universities
• 96 percent boys and 4 percent girls in public universities
5. CAUSES OF EDUCATION DISPARITY IN
PAKISTAN
• Patriarchal Gender Role
• House hold resources are allocated in favor of sons due
to their role in society outside home
• They are expected to financially support their family
but daughters would be married of another family
6. Socio Economic Hurdles
• Women are expected to do all domestic works at home
• Men are responsible to earning money for the family
• This division forces women to stay home instead of
going out and getting education
7. TERRORISM
• 710 schools were destroyed by the militants in
KPK and 401 schools were damaged in swat
• Militants are against the education of women
8. RURAL URBAN DIVIDE
• Literacy rate in rural women is only 12 percent that
are in primary level
• Only three percent of 17-23 age group have access
to higher education
9. POVERTTY
• A number of people living below the poverty line
and it becomes very difficult for families to
sponsor education to their children
• But in case if they manage to join send their
children then they try to spend on the boys then
girls
10. RECOMMENDATIONS
• District level policy makers should be urge to increase the enrollment of women in
educational institutions
• Public awareness schemes regarding the importance of women education should be
initiated
• Vocational training programs should be introduced for women
• Conditional cash transfer scheme should be introduced
• Universities should be encourage to introduce the facilities of distance learning
• Government should be partnership with NGO’s and civil societies
