different types of prisms

Then teacher show a slide containing the concept
about rectangular prism

 Bases are rectangular
 Lateral faces are rectangle in shape

Teacher asked how will are find the surface area of a
rectangular prism.
HOW CAN WE FIND THE SURFACE AREA
OF A RECTANGULAR PRISM
Development:
Teacher asked to draw and mark l, b, h of the
unfolded figure of rectangular prism.
First we draw the unfolded figure of
rectangular prism

Class room interaction procedure Pupil response
Then teacher ask to find the area of each rectangle.
Then teacher ask what is the areas of a rectangle
Formula for finding the area of a rectangle
Area = l + b
After the slide presentation teacher find the areas of
each rectangle.
From this the teacher concludes that total surface area
of a rectangular prism is sum of areas of all
rectangles.
i.e,
Then teacher show a slide
Surface area of rectangular prism
= sum of areas of each rectangle
i.e, Total surface area of a rectangular prism
= lb+lh+bh+1b+1h+bh
= 2 lb+2lh+2bh
= 2(1b+1h+bh)
i.e, Surface area = 2(lb + bh + 1h)
After that teacher show a slide
Surface area of rectangular prism
= 2 (l*b+b*h+l*h)
Application:
In a rectangular prism, h=10 cm, l=8cm, b = 5cm
Then what is the total surface area?
Teacher asks what are given.
What is to be finding out?
What is the formula for finding surface area?
Teacher ask to find answer and do it in the B.B
h = 10 cm
l = 8 cm
b = 5 cm
Surface area of a
rectangular prism =
2(lb+bh+lh)
Surface area = 2(lb+bh+1h)
= 2x(8*5+5*10+8*10)
= 2(40+50+80)
= 2 x 170
= 340 cm2

Base are rectangle 2. Lateral faces are rectangle in shape Concept : Conceptof rectangular prism Principle : Surface area of rectangular prism is the sum of the areas of each rectangle. Process : Process offinding surface area of a rectangular prism Formula : Surface Area of rectangular prism = 2*(bh+lh+lb) Symbol : l  length b  breadth h  height
  • 3. Learning outcomes : The pupil 1. Remembering the information about the surface area of rectangular prism 2. Develop understanding in finding the surface area of rectangular prism 3. Applying above information in familiar situations 4. Analysing the information to explore understanding relationships. 5. Justifying the above conceptand formula 6. Creating new ideas related to above facts and concepts 7. Develop skill in finding surface area of a rectangular prism 8. Then teacher show a slide containing the concept about rectangular prism Rectangular Prism  Bases are rectangular  Lateral faces are rectangle in shape
  • 5. Class room Interaction Procedure Pupil Response Teacher asked how will are find the surface area of a rectangular prism. HOW CAN WE FIND THE SURFACE AREA OF A RECTANGULAR PRISM Development: Teacher asked to draw and mark l, b, h of the unfolded figure of rectangular prism. First we draw the unfolded figure of rectangular prism h b l
  • 6. Class room interaction procedure Pupil response Then teacher ask to find the area of each rectangle. Then teacher ask what is the areas of a rectangle Formula for finding the area of a rectangle Area = l + b After the slide presentation teacher find the areas of each rectangle. From this the teacher concludes that total surface area of a rectangular prism is sum of areas of all rectangles. i.e, Then teacher show a slide Surface area of rectangular prism = sum of areas of each rectangle
  • 7. i.e, Total surface area of a rectangular prism = lb+lh+bh+1b+1h+bh = 2 lb+2lh+2bh = 2(1b+1h+bh) i.e, Surface area = 2(lb + bh + 1h) After that teacher show a slide Surface area of rectangular prism = 2 (l*b+b*h+l*h) Application: In a rectangular prism, h=10 cm, l=8cm, b = 5cm Then what is the total surface area? Teacher asks what are given. What is to be finding out? What is the formula for finding surface area? Teacher ask to find answer and do it in the B.B h = 10 cm l = 8 cm b = 5 cm Surface area of a rectangular prism = 2(lb+bh+lh)
  • 8. Surface area = 2(lb+bh+1h) = 2x(8*5+5*10+8*10) = 2(40+50+80) = 2 x 170 = 340 cm2 Review: 1. What is the formula for finding surface area of a rectangular prism ? Follow- up Activity: 1. Find the surface area of a rectangular prism having length 12cm, height 15 cm and breadth 10 cm
