2. Innovative Lesson Plan
(lesson in an activity mode)
Name of the teacher : Vidhya Vijayan Standard : 9th
Name of the school : ST. Thomas School Strength :
Subject : Biology Date :
Unit : For obtaining energy Period :
Topic : Importance of Respiration Time : 40 min
Curricular Statements a. To attain knowledge about respiration in man
b. To attain the conceptual ideas regarding respiration
Learning Outcomes
Factual Knowledge
The learner recalling the term lungs
The learner recognizing the mode of respiratory organs
Conceptual Knowledge The learner understands how respiration takes place
Procedural Knowledge The le arne r give s re ason for “while e ating don’t talk or
laugh ?
Metacognitive level The learner analyses the role of epiglottis
Process Skill The learner develops observation skill through observing the
human respiratory system
The learner communicates with others about the role of epiglottis.
Content Analysis
Terms : Nostrils, nasal passage, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchus, lungs,
alveoli, epiglottis
Facts: 1. Lungs are a pair of respiratory organ of present in the
thoraxic cavity
2. Respiratory gases enter and expel out of the lungs through
nostrils
3. Mucus and hair are present in the nasal cavity which filters
air and nakes it germs free
4. Pharynx acts as a common paasage for air and food
5. Epiglottis prevent entering the food to the respiratory tract
by closing glottis
4. Concept :
Major Concept : Importance of Respiration
Minor Concept : Gaseous change in alveoli
Pre-Require sites : The learner already know that the lungs is the respiratory organ in
main. Students already know that air get in and expelled out
through a pair of nostrils.
Teaching Learning
Resource
A chat showing respiratory tract in man Activity
TEACHIING LEARNING INTRACTION PUPIL RESPONSES
Introduction :
As part of awakening process, the teacher
conducts a discussion with the students.
Do you like all subject ?
Which subject do you like most ?
Pupil say ‘ye s’
Pupil say ‘Biology English, Maths
Which is the subject that deals with life?
Why is it so ?
Students responds “Biology”. It is re late d with
life activities
Can you suggest some vital life activities ?
OK
Students responds respiration, circulation
Teacher says,
Look I am standing still, which life
activity is going on as you can see? Teacher
says which process is helping for this ?
Do you want to know more about
respiration in man ?
Today we are going to study about it
Importance of Respiration (BBH)
Students responds as breathing respiration
5. Presentation
Teacher starts the class with different
activity]
Activity No : 1
Teacher ask the students to sit straight in the
class and hold their noise and mouth together
with their palm and ask them to observe that.
Pupil listen the class
Students observed as breathing
Ask one or two students to explain he how long
they could hold their breath
The student explained breathing
Activity No : 2
Teacher shows a picture and ask to identify
Teacher ask as a student why it is caused ?
Student explained as it is due to the lack of
oxygen and also explained the importance of
oxygen in human body
Activity No : 3
Teacher shows another picture and ask the
students to identify
The students identified as a human body
which is blue in colour.
Others pupil listen carefully.
The students identified as person sneezing
while clearing
Teacher ask the students why is it caused
so ?
A student came forward and explained them
Students explained that in nasal cavity, there is
the presence of hairs and mucus. Hair help to
filter the air and mucous help to keep the cavity
germ free. The presence of moisture makes the
air purify and the presence of chemical
substance in mucous skill the germs
Students listen carefully
Activity No. 4
Teacher shows a picture and ask them to
identify the picture
The students identified as a person taking food
while laughing
6. Teacher ask one or two students to explained
why is it so ?
A students came forward to explain
The student explained that pharnyx is the
common passage of food and air. It prevents food
entering through glottis
Other students listen carefully
Activity No : 5
Teacher asks the students to keep the
finge r’s on the throat and say I like biology ?
What do you feel now ?
From where the vibration comes ?
Pupil says “Kind of Vibration fe lt”
Students say “trache a”.
Activity No : 6
Teacher show a picture and ask to identify it
Can anybody explain why is it so ? the student
explained that:-
Pupil identifie d it as “a suffocating pe rson”
A student came forward to explained
There are parts of trachea, bronchus,
bronchioles, each bronchioles ends in a balloow
like structure called alveolus and also a double
layered covering of lungs protect lungs from
external shocks
Students listen carefully
Formative Assessment
Review Question
1. What are the special features of alveoli and that help in gaseous exchange ?
Follow-up-activity :
“Don’t talk or laugh while e ating”. What is your opinion given to other about this ?
