UCAS ACADEMIC REPORT
NAME Melanie Parr
ADVANCED SUBJECT BIOLOGY
STAFF Mr INGAMELLS
ACADEMIC PROGRESS AND POTENTIAL FOR FURTHER
STUDY
Melanie made a great deal of progress in her studies of this subject. She
developed her knowledge and applied this in her frequent contributions to
lessons. She developed her skills of analyses of information and was able to
evaluate such information in terms of audience, bias and objectivity. She has
all of the necessary study skills that will allow her to be a self motivated
student at higher levels of education. She has shown that she can manage
her workload effectively to meet deadlines and can research information from
a variety of sources. She also has the confidence to be independent although
she does enjoy working in a group.
POWERS OF ANALYSIS, ABILITY TO PRESENT AN
ARGUMENT
Melanie is able to process complex data to arrive at an understanding of the
main trends and has an eye for detail so that she can spot discrepancies. As
part of her A2 coursework she had to carry out detailed statistical analyses.
She is able to listen and contribute to discussion and help support others to
develop their ideas as well as contribute her own point of view, arguing her
case and supporting it with examples and logical argument. She can use a
variety of formats to present her arguments, written, verbal etc.
RELIABILITY, DETERMINATION, SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY
Melanie is a very reliable and punctual person. She was honest in all her
dealings with others, personally and professionally. As already mentioned she
was always well motivated and when focused on a task she was determined
and resilient when undertaking it. She also helped support others not just
within the group, enabling them to progress. She was always ready to help in
a proactive manner. She was always aware of her responsibilities as a senior
student and took the responsibility of her role seriously and always set a good
example.
SOCIAL ABILITY AND PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Melanie got on extremely well with her peers and tutors; she was consistently
cheerful and coped with the demands of her course well. Her personal
organisation helped with this as did her time management skills. She was
popular with her peers and was often at the centre of discussions and
activities. When asked to lead a group she was effective when delegating as
she was sensitive to their needs and prepared to lead by example.
FIELD TRIPS
Residential at Cranedale centre to study environmental survey techniques
and experience different habitats such as coast, grassland, woodland etc.
SUITABILITY
I can highly recommend Melanie for her course as she will benefit from the
experience and use this in a positive manner. She has the necessary skills,
personality and determination to attain highly.
