for a school psychology internship position at your school district and I am very pleased to
present her to you . I have known Debra for two years as a student in courses that relate to
measurement, intelligence, academic achivement, and behavior/personality assessment.
Debra distinguished herself as one of our best educational specialist students . Her academic
work has been exceptional. She participated in classroom discussions posing critical questions
and when appropriate offering constructive feedback. In program faculty meetings regarding
student performance she received excellent feedback from all faculty regarding her
coursework, interaction with children, parents and school staff. In fact, I would rank her
performance in the top three to five best students in our program during the last five years. In
recogntition of exceptional work the faculty awarded her a recognition of achievement
certificate and a small scholarhip . Personally, I have asked Debra to serve as a teaching
assistant in my advance assessment courses, a position typically offered to advanced doctoral
level students. Exceptional and outstanding are two words that come to mind as I observed her
teaching last week. I am most certain that as with her university coursework, you will find her
to be dependable and conscientious.
In addition, please note Debbie's strong work history, including her experience as a preschool
teacher and in dealing with families as a family law paralegal. Debbie's strong work history
includes roles related to her future as a school psychologist, including acting as a consultant,
counselor, analyst, and teacher . She has had experiences tackling challenges in the classroom,

with your organization . I have known Debbie for the past 2 year and have been her
instructor in courses for academic interventions, crisis intervention and instruction for
severe and low incident disabilities. Debbie has been an exceptional student in all
respects. Her interest, initiative and contributions to class show insight and knowledge
with respect to working with children with disabilities and their families . Moreover,
Debbie's personal demeanor is one of confidence and compassion .
In each class, Debbie went beyond typical expectations . Her desire is truly to
learn as much information as possible. It is not uncommon for Debbie to have
completed a large portion of the readings prior to the first day of class. Debbie has also
shown initiative in seeking additional information , readings and activities. I encouraged
Debbie to consider the doctoral program in school psychology . I understand her desire

that Debbie has the knowledge , skill, insight and professionalism to be a successful

I am writing this letter on behalf of Debra Jean Bassett to recommend her for
employment as a school psychologist. Debra was employed in my law office for approximately
six and a half years from 2002 through 2008 as a legal secretary/paralegal in the family law area.
For the last five years of her employment, Debra also served as the office manager for three
attorneys and a staff of three people.
Debra is an extraordinary person with the ability to excel in any field. In her role as a
paralegal in the family law area, Debra had daily contact with clients and children who were in
stressful situations and in need of assistance. She is an extremely efficient and bright person who
was able to handle every challenge in the office in an effective manner. She truly has exceptional
interpersonal skills and was able to establish rapport with parents and children as well as other
attorneys and court personnel.
Debra's role as a paralegal required her to understand and apply legal mles and evidence
to specific case situations. In accomplishing this responsibility, Debra was creative, organized
and thorough. She was able to work independently and was able to meet short timelines when
necessary. She always had a clear understanding of the issues and the facts in each case. She
always completed her work in a timely and thorough manner.
I never worked with anyone who was more capable than Debra, or who was more of a joy
to have in the office. In six and a half years, I don't think she ever had a bad day. Debra's
commitment and ability were superior to anyone with whom I have worked with over a period of
35 years in the legal field.
I am married to a teacher and both my wife and myself have observed in Debra all of the
capabilities of an exceptional educator. She is able to understand and relate to people in every
situation. She has a remarkable capacity to identifY issues and address them appropriately and
effectively, and she is especially attuned to the needs of children.
