ION is a middleware platform that aims to simplify integration and business processes. It connects business applications in a distributed, peer-to-peer architecture rather than a centralized hub-and-spoke model. This allows individual applications to execute business processes independently while still coordinating with each other. ION's main components include tools for integration, workflow automation, event monitoring and management, and a visual interface for configuration. It uses standard integration patterns and data formats to provide easier and more flexible integration than traditional middleware.
