DEFINITION & INTRODUCTION:
 The basic and smallest building block used in
building other objects is called ‘Info Objects’
 In other terms, it is the basic information provider in
SAP BW
 We will need to use Info Objects to design, build or
configure other SAP BW objects such as Info
Cubes, Data store objects (DSOs), Multiproviders,
Queries, Infosets and so on
 They can also store information (master data)
TYPES OF INFO OBJECTS:
 Following are the types of Info Objects:
i. Characteristic
ii. Key Figure
iii. Time Characteristic
iv. Unit
v. Technical Characteristic

 CHARACTERISTICS INFO OBJECT:
 Characteristics Info Objects are the
business reference objects used to analyze
the facts
 This type of Info Object represents business
entities that are the subjects of analysis
 For Eg., Product, Customer, Material and
Marketing Region
CHARACTERISTICS INFO OBJECT(CONTD.):

 KEY FIGURES INFO OBJECT:
 This type of Info Object represents numeric measures of
business entities
 For Eg., Weight, Number, Quantity, Amount

 TIME CHARACTERISTICS INFO OBJECT:
 This type of Info Object represents the
period of the transaction between entities
 For Eg., Billing Date, Month of Sale, Fiscal
year, Fiscal Period
 Time Characteristics are delivered by SAP
and aren’t customizable
 UNIT INFO OBJECT :
 This type of Info Object represents the unit of
measure for the numeric measures of business
entities
 For Eg., Currency, Weight Unit, Unit of Volume
 TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS INFO
OBJECT:
 This type of Info Object represents entities that are
internal to SAP BW and are technical in type
 For Eg., A data load Request ID, Change Run
 Technical Characteristics are delivered by SAP and
aren’t customizable
