A Day in the Life  of a 9yo Student Created by  Mrs. Szeryk’s  9 Year-Old Class
Math Ch.1 Place Value First in Math we learned place value. We had questions with an answer that is either position, count, measure or label for example, if John’s team had 3 home runs in the game is the number used to position, count, label or measure? We learned about place value up to the billions
Ch.2  and Ch.3 In Chapter 2 in Math, we learned how to compare numbers, order numbers, compare and order money,make change and round numbers In Chapter 3, we worked on Addition and Subtraction
Chapters 4 and 5 In Chapter 4 we did multiplication properties and division rules and multiplied three factors In chapter 5 we did order of operations, words into expressions, comparing expressions, variables and equations, and function tables
Reading In Reading, we have learned about the Literary Elements and how to make Connections when we read Right now, we read books, Ask Questions, and then answer them to understand the book better We do activities in booklets related to the story we are reading
IE classes During our IE classes we learned how to write a story.
IE classes In Reading  we were making various connections with the books we read.
Stories We Made We know how to get our writing better organized using dialogues with good punctuation, and I think I learned a lot. I want to learn more and be the best student in I.E. class
LA In the Beginning of the year we wrote Autobiographical Poems. Later in the year,we wrote narrative stories which are funny real-life stories. We wrote Persuasive Paragraphs, followed by Descriptive Writing and the Contest of a British Author Called Roald Dahl.  Look at the descriptive writing on the wall about our family members.  We also wrote about a Canadian hero named Terry Fox.
LA Pictures
Recess At the beginning of recess we eat our snacks. Then we play outside. After recess we line up in the lines of our classes.
Science In Science we make lots of fun stuff like:We make fun Experiments asking  questions. We are studying The Solar System. Now we are observing the Moon and the Sun. During the holidays, we had a homework assignment of observing the Sun and Moon. We became Science experts on the Sun and Moon. The fun starts after recess and ends before Lunch.

Cultural Studies
World geography We made a poster about our home country.
Middle  Ages project 1 This is our class’s first presentation about the feudal system in the middle ages. Our class all did one slide and Mrs.Szeryk compiled them together.
Middle Ages project 2 We did another presentation too.  It was our own presentation but we could have done it as a group, choosing four people who lived in the middle ages. Our class made three presentations and one play. You can see them on our website.
Art Paper Buildings We ripped out two rectangles from one  brown, and one grey  paper for roads. We ripped buildings out  of the papers, glued it all  on, and drew  windows with marker Animal Drawings We had to pick an animal. We drew the animal in real life,  with no curves, and with pulling  the shapes apart. We copied two onto bigger  paper and colored one.
Library In Library Ms Beata reads us a book She gives us questions after reading the book Sometimes she lets us make bookmarks After that, we take a ruler to keep book places, and check out our books
Library rules 1.Quiet 2.Listen 3.Don’t draw in books 4.No running 5.Do not take books without permission
Lunch At lunch we can choose between two different kinds of lunch that are Slovak lunch and home lunch.
Languages: German In German class, we  (not all of the people in our class) learned about things such as introducing ourselves, counting and about family members. Also we played a game to memorize things that we learned.
Introducing What we learned first was introducing ourselves. They are: Ich bin …..  (your name) Ich bin … Jahre alt ( your age) Ich wohne in ….  (city you are living ) Ich komme….  (country you came from) Ich spiele …..  (only sports like football, baseball etc) ‘ J’ you pronounce like ‘y’

Playing Games We played a game to memorize things that we learned.They were: Domino Dice  Memory game Hang man
Higher German  Language Sometimes we do work sheets and crossword puzzles. Sometimes we watch videos in German. Sometimes we play memory of countries in German.
Languages: French During Languages we go to different classes and learn another language  In French we learn such things as numbers and family members and we learn even more stuff.
French In French we also learn parts of speech We learn how to say: How are you? What is your name? Hello  And so on!
Slovak Language We are learning about soft and hard consonants in the Slovak language VYBRANE SLOVA  I  and Y We read Slovak stories
  11/4/11 In Music we play instruments like xylophone, tambourine, percussion, and triangle. Sometimes we play a recorder. What we like to do in Music
WHAT DO WE DO IN MUSIC 11/4/11 Do you know what we do in Music? Our teacher gives us this type of paper that has a song on it. After she gives us the paper, we sing the song.
WHAT DO WE LIKE TO DO IN MUSIC 11/4/11 We like when the music is on and we can dance to it. When we dance we do funny dances like this:
Technology We made picture collages of our summer vacation. We practiced typing. We learned computer rules. We used word art and drawing tools. We learned about Microsoft Word. We learned how to use our Wordpress class website We do Creative writing on Wikispaces We’ve used Google Earth
Extended PE Activities start at 2:00 and end at 3:30 on Wednesdays. These are some of the activities we play:  Swimming  Soccer  Dance  Music lessons
PE In PE class we play games and have fun.  Our teacher lets us choose the games that we want to play.Sometimes we cheer for some people. g
WHAT DO WE PLAY IN PE? We play ball games, tag games, steal the gold, and lots of other games.
P.E In P.E. we play different games like:  Stuck in the Mud Asian Dodgeball American Dodgeball  Two man Dodgeball Line Tag Fisher Man and Fish
Homeroom  In homeroom we do different stuff Sometimes we do Culture Studies Other times we do Science Or we practice for our Assembly Sometimes we work in the Lab Or we change our desks around
