The Dynamics
of People and
Organizations
What is Organizational
Behavior?
 Organization – a group of people
regularly working together to achieve
common goals. ( companies, non-
profits, or family, etc.)
 Is the systematic study and careful
application of knowledge about how
people - as individuals and as groups - act
within organizations.
 It is a scientific discipline that strives to
identify ways in which people can act more
effectively.
Five Levels of Analysis
 Describe (how people behave under a
variety of conditions.)
 Understand (why people behave as they
do.)
 Predicting (predict which employees
might be productive and disruptive.)
 Control human behavior at work
Forces
 People
are the living, thinking, feeling beings who
work in the organization to achieve their
objectives.
 Make up the internal social system of the
organization. Nowadays the workforce has
become a rich melting pot of diversity. Which
means that employees bring a wide array of
educational backgrounds, talents, and
perspectives to their jobs.
 Organization exist to serve people, rather than
people existing to serve organizations.

Industrial sociology: Human Behavior in Organization

  • 1. The Dynamics of People and Organizations
  • 2. What is Organizational Behavior?  Organization – a group of people regularly working together to achieve common goals. ( companies, non- profits, or family, etc.)
  • 3.  Is the systematic study and careful application of knowledge about how people - as individuals and as groups - act within organizations.  It is a scientific discipline that strives to identify ways in which people can act more effectively.
  • 4. Five Levels of Analysis  Describe (how people behave under a variety of conditions.)  Understand (why people behave as they do.)  Predicting (predict which employees might be productive and disruptive.)  Control human behavior at work
  • 5. Forces  People are the living, thinking, feeling beings who work in the organization to achieve their objectives.  Make up the internal social system of the organization. Nowadays the workforce has become a rich melting pot of diversity. Which means that employees bring a wide array of educational backgrounds, talents, and perspectives to their jobs.  Organization exist to serve people, rather than people existing to serve organizations.
