The global success story of intelligent networks in automation has its origin in the desire for integrated
communication. Prerequisite for transparent, efficient and customized use and control are integrated, internationally
standardized network components. Whereas in the past cabling and connection systems were specific to the respec-

Besides LC-type fiber optics, which have proved themselves in long-
distance data transmission in particular, the RJ45 connector has
become especially in building and factory cablings the connection
system of the Internet age. But requirements to connectors radically
changed when data networks expanded into harsh industrial produc-
tion environments.
M12 connections have been a standard in industrial bus
connections for a long time. They are adapted to the environmen-
tal conditions of production halls in an ideal way. Whereas RJ45 is
gaining more and more importance in electrical cabinets and distri-
butors, M12 connectors are facing new requirements for their trans-
mission performance as a result of the Ethernet entering the industry.
METZ CONNECT fiber optic and copper cabling components have
already been made fit for harsh industrial environments. Now, M12
components with a transmission performance suitable for Industrial
Ethernet were included to complete the product range and to pro-
vide each user with his preferred connection system.

As we see it, protection isn’t merely a technical term to be found in product specifications. First and foremost,
to protect means to guarantee operational safety even under difficult conditions as for example for device and
cabling connections in industrial networks with protection class IP67. To this end, we inspect and test products
using special procedures that we improve and extend continually based on the experience we gain from many
millions of ports installed worldwide.
To protect also means to supply products that meet the requirements of tomorrow and thus offer our customers
maximum security for their investment. Product versions with features that exceed the requirements of standards,
choice of the right materials and the unrivalled flexibility of our “Fit for all” principle guarantee this capacity.
Shielding is our philosophy! Whereas unshielded data networks in classic copper-based office cabling are still
common practice in many markets, shielded technology is becoming more and more requested, especially for high
data rates. A shielded data network in harsh and in some cases security-relevant applications is essential if only for
EMC reasons. Our system solutions provide integrated 360 degree shielding from the cable to the pc board for
RJ45 as well as for Ethernet M12 components and ensure excellent EMC features. Moreover, zinc die-cast connec-
tion systems also stand for stability. As one of the global market leaders for shielded jacks, we are both pioneer

To connect is the purpose of all we do! We connect the data cable to the pc board - with industrially hardened
RJ45 and Ethernet M12 jacks that excel by secure connection and high mating cycles. The way we design spring

fine the optical layer in housings and adapt magnetics in jacks to suit specific circuits ... all of this is connecting -

Safe, reliable, quick and flexible connection systems are only
perfect if they are also quick and easy to install.
It’s not without good reason that we have designed one series of
our jacks with the same length as SFP modules. Our system, for
which we have taken out a patent, allows the device designer to
connect our edge connector to the same pc board and in doing
so to achieve combined operation of RJ45 and fiber optic systems.
RJ45 jacks and SFP Transceiver are both protected by an integra-
ted shielding. The idea to no longer install device jacks as part of
the soldering process but to relocate this procedure to the assem-
bly process has been readily welcomed by a great many device
manufacturers - including when the delicate connections on the
pc board need to be protected against the mechanical strain
exerted by bayonet fittings.
At the same time, we still want and have to cater for the
traditional way of connecting jacks to pc boards. We offer
versions for THT, THR and SMT as well as different types of packa-
ging (Tape & Reel, plastic tray or loose in boxes). All products are
RoHS-compliant and meet all current standards - worldwide.
