Employme n t History
2014 May – Curren t: CGI – UK – Permanen t.
Position: Net wo r k Consultan t – Imple men t a t io n Project Work.
Duties: Working closely with network architects I am tasked with implementing
network solutions from a LLD both on private networks and in our shared hosting
space. This covers multiple vendors’ equipment in secure and non-secure
environments. Key concepts covered are, networks and security, TCP/IP in multi-
tier network infrastructures, routing, firewalling, switching, load balancing & VPN
concepts to enable security lockdown and controls to allow system accreditation.
Upon completion I need to extensively document and ensure devices are suitably
managed as transition the project into a BAU environment.
Achieve men ts: It has been a great challenge working with so many different
customers which has given me further insight into the hosting environment and
enabled me to gain a lot more security exposure. I have also proved I have the
flexibility to take on new products, services, strategies & ways of working.
2009 May – 2014 April: Intrinsic Technology – UK – Permanen t.
Position: Net wo r k Consultan t – Field based
Duties: I am based on a remote customer site 3 days a week as the prime
interface for all data Wi-Fi and security issues both LAN & WAN monitoring via
Solar winds in a large hospital sector covering 500 + network devices over
multiple sites.
This involves managing all project related work as the lead such as new builds
creating low level designs, implementation, testing, documenting, enhancements,
training also resolving escalated faults under tight SLA's and developing future
business from a sales perspective.
This is a data role with a lot of exposure to VoIP UC voice platforms covering Cisco
and Avaya. Operating in a ITIL environment. I am field based for the remainder of
the week which involves design and implementation project work for a large client
bank across the UK covering a Cisco, Avaya & HP product set.
Achieve men ts: I have designed many networks in multiple sectors for new builds
and add on’s. An example is implementing a 1500 user hospital network from
scratch deploying cutting edge technology. I take great pride in my work and have
positive feedback from clients.
2009 Feb – May: Mot t MacDonald Ltd – Birming ha m - Permanen t.
Position: Commu nica tions Design Consultan t
Duties: I designed Highways Communications and Telecom schemes on the
Highways Agencies NRTS project to enable engineers to work from a detailed
design pack. This includes new enablement’s and migrations from the legacy
equipment covering video, voice and data. Based at a client site. I was also the
key contact for all IP address allocation for any new schemes being deployed
on the national network.
2006 Sept – 2008 Sept: Alcatel- lucent – Newpor t – 3 mon t h rolling
cont ract.
Position: Net wo r k Project / Design / Imple me n ta t io n / Suppor t Engineer
Duties: I was working in the project- engineering department on a contract basis.
I was involved with the design, installation and 3rd
line support for the UK
Highways agency National roads telecommunications services (NRTS) project
covering all aspects of the network. This included liaising with 3rd
party sub-
contractors and business vendors for installations, dealing with escalated faults to
simulate on a lab model, recommendations on the initial design due to highlighted
issues when productive and audit documenting network regions to train user’s
prior to handover.
Prior to this I was part of a small team based in the TAC providing 2/3 rd
line IP
technical support and project engineering support to UK&I customers at various
locations participating on a on call basis covering 365/24/7 1 in 4 weeks. This
covers the whole network solution for some customers incorporating OSS and NMS
platforms as well as responsibility for all hardware and connectivity issues in the
live network. I had full remote management via VPN connectivity.
Customers supported were Orange, BT21CN, BE Unlimited, Highways Agency
NRTS and O2.
I responded to problems escalated via the call centre on Seibel and Remedy
platforms progressing the issue until resolution under tight SLA’s. I was constantly
updating my skill set via daily activities and internal courses along with self study
using resources available in my own time.
I was the prime contact for Orange whilst in the TAC which involved all aspects of
their Broadband network in the LLU. This consisted of customer meetings,
recommendations, incident reports, liaising with projects and document writing
MOP’s working to ISO standards within an ITIL frame work.
Achieve men ts: I have broadened my knowledge of networking by being exposed
to multiple customer networks in the private and public sector. This has improved
my awareness of all commercial aspects and alternative methods of design,
deployment, management and operation.
1998 April - 2006 Sept: Bloomberg LP – London - Permanen t
Position: Net wo r k Project Manage men t/ Imple men t a t io n / Operations Eng
3rd line
Duties: Working as a team lead in the financial sector. This involved all
commercial aspects from the initial design, configuration, documentation,
installation, migration, testing, monitoring, managing, training and support from
an EMEA network perspective. I was responsible for the transportation of all video,
voice and data network aspects for the corporate, broadcast and customer leased
line network connectivity which spanned the EMEA region. I had the sole
responsibility for Amsterdam, Brussels and Italy. This involved the day-to-day
running of the existing network topology, such as circuit and hardware failures
reported via Remedy and NMS platforms. Investigating routing, switching issues
and ensuring sufficient resources and bandwidth are available for the current
demand and future growth. All management and configuration is conducted from
the NOC/NMC deploying the tools and equipment highlighted under my key skill
set with the aid of remote engineers under instruction when equipment is isolated
or a new installation is scheduled. I would configure a router/ firewall / switch to
integrate onto the customers network giving connection to the data centres in
London & New York, testing fully and documenting before completion. I was
constantly looking for ways to improve the network which involves tight SLAs and
meetings with new and existing Telco’s discussing and planning network
migrations, consolidation projects, down time, commercials, diversity issues,
service levels and bandwidth costs taking the lead in the project for my regions.
There has been international travel to remote mux site nodes (POPs) when rolling
out new equipment such as Italy, Iceland, Turkey and Spain leading the whole
node build. I work from a budget, which enables all spares to be available and all
new equipment to be purchased and shipped as arranged as per the new
customer requirements. I have been asked on occasion to train less senior
engineers both on and off site which is something I enjoy immensely and take
great pride in.
Achieve men ts:
