INDUCTION PROCESS FOR NEW EMPLOYEES
• Meet and greet with company induction representative
• Receive new employee forms, general information and employment policies
• Introduction to the team outlining roles and responsibilities
• Security and OH&S safety procedures
• Orientation of workplace and facilities
• Receive passwords and security I.D
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
• In case of fire or you are directed to evacuate the building, do not panic,
do not take your belongings , make your way to the designated
assembly point in the park across the road.
• Inform reception of any safety emergency and they will contact the
relevant authorities and staff members.
• If for some reason reception is unattended, inform a supervisor or dial
000 for emergency services.
• If there is a work place injury notify the First Aid Officer, and a
supervisor.
STUDIO SAFETY PROCEDURES
• Do not run in the studio
• Take care when operating electrical equipment and report any malfunctions
• Be alert in the workplace
• Do not operate equipment such as shredders and laminators with loose clothing or
jewellery and long hair must be tied back
• Aisles ands exit routes must not be obstructed
• Report any hazards or incidents
POTENTIAL HAZARDS IN THE STUDIO
• Repetitive strain and heavy lifting injuries
• Inadequate lighting
• Liquid or food spills
• Hard to reach items in storage
• Using equipment incorrectly
• Open draws, sharp corners and poorly placed furniture
• Incorrect work station set up
• Poor housekeeping
• Interpersonal conflict
• Inadequate ventilation
REPORTING RISKS AND INCIDENTS
• All risks and incidents need to be reported to a supervisor,
the OH&S representative or management immediately, or
at the safest opportunity to do so
• Assess the situation and at no time put yourself or others in
danger
• Respond to the scenario if you have been trained
appropriately
• Fill out an incident report as soon as possible
CONTROLLING RISKS
• Take regular breaks when performing repetitive actions
• Employees must be shown the correct way to operate equipment
• Spills are to be cleaned up immediately
• Place heavy objects on lower shelves to avoid injury and objects used regularly in a space that is easy to access
• Set up work station correctly
• Maintain regular housekeeping
• Be aware of open draws and place covers on notoriously sharp corners
• Implement conflict resolution procedures
• Ensure adequate ventilation
WORK STATION SET UP
• It is important to have the correct workstation set up in order
to minimise the risk of injury.
• Ensure you have the layout of your work station and the
correct accessories required to operate safely and
comfortably in order to avoid repetitive strain injuries.
• Make sure you have sufficient lighting to avoid eye strain
HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
Employer responsibilities include:
• Providing a safe work environment
• Providing and maintaining safe work equipment
• Providing information, instructions and a safe way of working
• Monitoring the health of workers and workplace conditions
• Ensuring the safe use, handling and storage of machinery, structures and substances
• Maintaining adequate facilities
• Ensuring that reporting is easy and there is no negative behaviour attached to hazard reporting
HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee responsibilities include:
• Always follow the workplace OH&S policies and procedures
• Report any health and safety issues
• Take care of your own health and safety
• Take care not to jeopardise co-workers safety or health
OH&S MEETINGS
The current OH&S representative, Michael Magoo, oversees the meetings and is
required to adhere to the current OH&S Safety Act rules and regulations in the
workplace.
Meetings will address:
• Any incidents that have occurred
• Reports of any hazards and actions that need to be taken to rectify them
• Ways in which to improve safety and decrease hazards in the workplace
• The implementation of new regulations and develop safe work procedures
EQUIPMENT SAFETY CHECKS
• Equipment safety checks need to be conducted regularly and in accordance with the
OH&S regulations
• Report any faulty equipment
• A qualified electrician will test electrical items which are tagged once tested
• The name of the person who carried out the testing, the date of testing and the date of
next test should feature on the tag as well as the outcome of the test
