The agency I visited was Taibu Community Health Centre. While visiting Taibu

Community Health Centre I found out about the Early Year’s Program and it was a good

experience to visit this agency. Taibu Community Health Care promotes health and

well-being by providing comprehensive primary health care to the people of Malvern

with a complementary aim of delivering specialized services for the Black community.

Taibu has different services that I liked for example: there is a free clinical service and

dental care for children 0-18 and senior who are 65+ years old, free yoga class, free

nutrition program, free chiropodist and physicians. Taibu offered several early programs

ranging from Pre & Post natal groups, to parenting groups to kindergarten readiness

program in the community. Taibu also provides SocalCize program, Salsa Line Dancing

and Indian & Western dance and yoga program. The Ready, Set, Go program is a good

program for the preschool children and other children that are 3-5 years old because it’s

a two week program for the children and it gets the kindergarten children get ready for

school. I didn’t know such service facilities offered so much to the needy public and I

was very impressed by their range of services. Without services like the once they offer

many people in the community would not have access to such range of services due to

financial difficulties and I was touched by how much children come to use the facilities,

as I am a strong believer that support like this to families and children help create a

better future for families and children that are not as privileged.

The presentation revealed a lot of information on the different types of services

provided around the GTA community and the type of impact such programs has on

families and children in our community. Knowing about such services will be beneficial

for a future Early Childhood Educator like my-self. The key issues that I noticed many

people noticed from their presentation was that many agencies are assisting children

with special needs, teenage parents requiring support, people coming from abuse and

immigrants trying to find jobs. As a special needs child I received a lot of support from

the schools I attended as well as family so I know firsthand how important such services

like these are for children. Hence, I strongly believe governments should keep funding

such programs to help everyone who wants help to improve their lives. Also, many

immigrants are new to the country so it’s very difficult them to know how to approach job

searches hence having services that help such people is important. The fundamental

item to help improve their lives is money so they could afford other underlying things like

medications and affordable homes. Also, a parent’s ability to provide for their children

also impacts the children’s lives in many ways.

As a future Early Childhood Educator I have a responsibility to support families. I can

help the families by telling them about the different community centres around the GTA

this ways I will be creating awareness to certain people who otherwise might not have

heard about such facilities and services available in our community. Another method I

could implement in the future is inviting community centre representative to the daycare

to have a workshop that talks about the services available at their community centre, as

we all have a responsibility to help those less fortunate then us in any way possible.

Especially when there are government funded program available that just need

exposure so families in need can seek their help. Daycares can also provide pamphlets

with information and leave at the daycares for parents to see when they come to pick up

their kids. As a Global Citizen everyone including myself should be doing even the

smallest things to help those in need, the smallest impact can go a long way for some

families.
