PARTY Program (Sunnybrook Hospital): stands for Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth; focuses on
educating youth on how to make "smart choices"
Statistics:
• MADD Canada: Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15 to 25 year olds, and alcohol is a
factor in 45% of those crashes.
• 2009: an estimated 1 074 people were killed were impairment-related; an estimated 63 338 people injured were
impairment-related; an estimated 209 336 were impairment-related; cost Canada $20.15 billion
• St. Michael's: "Motor vehicle crashes and falls are the predominant mechanism of injury for over 70% of our
trauma
patients annually."
• St. Michael's: "Over half of our trauma patients each year are between the ages of 15 - 19 years of age."
