The Family Support Center (FSC) continues its Lifestart Village Program which helps single, homeless women become independent homeowners. Through this two-step program, mothers live in a supervised dorm facility while obtaining their GED, job training, and parenting classes. They can then rent an FSC-owned home if they prove they can support their children. With continued success, they can eventually own their own home. The program transforms welfare recipients into self-sufficient women through education and support, as one resident noted it helped her outlook and consider returning to school. The FSC relies on its annual fundraising breakfast to fund programs that strengthen families and independence.
