"India Macro Economic Policy Initiatives" speech by Prime MinisterNajmuddin Jabalpurwala
This document is the result of an assignment during my MBA program. I had to prepare a "swear-in" speech for India's next PM in the 2009 general elections. The focus was only on the Macro Economic policy initiatives of the government. It was one of my favorite assignments as I researched on India's economic policy & prepared recommendations on future initiatives.

SDGs an Opportunity for India to Become Self Sufficient and Eliminate All Kin...ijtsrd
Sustainable development goals can be achieved to its fullest term when each and every citizen participate and work for it. Over population and lack of education are the two main loopholes in the Indian society, which have failed them in many ways to achieve a sustainable living followed by social standards of a society where caste system and gender based discrimination is prominent. However there have been states which have taken the risk and opportunity to move towards sustainable living, where India has inaugurated smart farming and smart and sustainable villages, electricity has reached out to the people through solar panels in the rural area, New education policy 2020 is a step to promote universal education. We are cutting down are usage on plastic and promoting jute bags. A very important component which requires change is social safety and security. In order to achieve the sustainable development goals we need to bring in social security for all its people, together we have to achieve the goals and fruits of the goals should reach out to all people and not just a few parts of the India or section of a society. SDGs will play a significant role in boosting the economy of India. “Employment Generation and Poverty Alleviation in Developing Countries” Chall...IOSR Journals
Implications of economic policies initiated and pursued by the Government for the creation of
gainful employment opportunities. After independence, when India initiated the programme of economic
development through planning mechanism, neither of the two prevalent economic theories i.e. the Keynesian
theory of effective demand and the neo-classical theory of flexible wage rates was not found suitable to the
Indian conditions.
Poverty reduction has been an important goal of development policy since the inception of planning in
India. Various antipoverty, employment generation and basic services programmes have been in operation for
decades in India. The ongoing reforms attach great importance to removal of poverty, and addressing
specifically the wide variations across States and the rural-urban divide. Anti-poverty strategy has three broad
components: promotion of economic growth; promotion of human development; and targeted programmes of
poverty alleviation to address multi-dimensional nature of poverty. The various programmes targeted at the
poor have been streamlined and strengthened in recent years, including through the NREGS.
The influence of macro economic environment on the industry speeds ahead economy generates more
jobs and higher levels of wages and income through increasing productivity. To achieve these objectives, series
of outward oriented policy changes i.e. industrial reforms, fiscal reforms, monetary reforms, trade policy reform
etc. were introduced. An economic reform has been evolving historically and being propelled forward with
incredible speed by the technological revolution.

● To pass a stronger MGNREGA
( Mahatma Gandhi National Rural
Employment Act) Act.
28. What all things they were able
accomplish ?
MGNREGA: Launched in the year
2005, this scheme has reportedly
benefited a major chunk of rural
household in India. Wages under
MGNREGA have almost doubled ever
since it came into existence. Last
year, it provided employment to more
than 4.8 crore households
Food Security: Although Congress is
yet to make much headway in
National Food Security Bill, it is to be
noted that there has been a three-fold
increase in food subsidy during the
UPA tenure.
29. Things which were made worse.
GDP growth:According to the economic reports, India lost
momentum in GDP growth under the Congress’s rule. The
average GDP growth till 2004 was 6% a year. As of June 30, 2013,
the average annual GDP growth fell to 4.4% in 2013.
Depreciation of rupee: The value of rupee has nose-dived ever
since the Congress started ruling in 2004. Simple statistics reveal
that the variation in rupee value was between 39 and 49 per USD
till 2004. It saw an unprecedented fall in the last 10 years as the
value went as low as 68 per USD . The party’s policies didn’t
evoke global confidence, which is touted as the major reason for
this instability.
Current Account Deficit: The Congress’s performance in this
sector looks dismal. When it returned to power, there was no
existence of current account deficit. In fact, we had an impressive
surplus of around $8 billion. Ten years later, that figure stands at
(-) $80 billion. This is where the party has disappointed the nation
the most.
