The Indian desert, also known as the Thar desert, is located in western India along the border with Pakistan. It receives very little rainfall of less than 150mm per year, which falls between July and September. The climate is hot and arid, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to 50°C. Common landforms include barchan sand dunes and longitudinal dunes. The desert is sparsely populated, with the main occupations being agriculture and animal husbandry when water is available. Major cities in the region include Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer.
