Army Day is celebrated on 15th
January every year in India, in
recognition of Field Marshal
Kodandera M. Cariappa's (then
a Lieutenant General) taking
over as the first Commander-
in-Chief of the Indian Army
from General Sir Francis
Butcher, the last British
Commander-in-Chief of India,
on 15 January 1949.
The day was decided to be celebrated as the army
day in India to start paying tribute to the
sacrificed Indian army soldiers at the “Amar
Jawan Jyoti” at India Gate in New Delhi

•Indian Army functions at the Siachen Glacier which is
about 5000 meters above sea level. The glacier is
regarded as the highest battlefield in the world.
