2. Introduction
Army Day is celebrated on 15 January
every year in India , in recognition of
Lieutenant General , K.M. Cariappa , who
was the first Chief Commander of India.
Army Day marks a day to salute the
valient soldiers who sacrificed their lives
to protect our country and the people
living in it.
On this day , parades and military shows
are also organized at all the army
headquarters in New Delhi.
Tributes are also paid to the martyrs at the
Amar Jawan Jyot at India Gate on 15
January
3. About Our Indian Army
The Indian Army was formed in 1776 ,
under the government of East India
Company in Kolkata.
About 14,00,000 soldiers are in active
sevice and about 9,60,000 are reserve
troops.
The Indian Army is the world’s third-
largest standing army.
Its primary mission is to ensure the
national security and defence of the
Republic of India from external
aggression and threats , and maintaining
peace and security within its borders.
4. Achievement Of Indian Army
The demolition of East Pakistan
leading to the birth of Bangladesh
in 1971 was the greatest victory of
India that resulted in the surrender
of 93,000 Pakistani military
personel – the largest number of
prisoners taken in any war after
World War II.
