History Of Indian Army Day
Indian Army Day has been every year on the 15th of January since 1949 in order to
commemorate general K.M. Cariappa as the first Indian commander-in-chief of the Indian
Arm. Prior to that, Cariappa was the British were commanders-in-chief of the Indian Army.
General Cariappa was appointed the first Indian commander-in-chief on January 15th, 1949
by then Governor General of India, Chakravarthi Rajagopalachari, succeeding General Sir
