India Solar Trends to Watch for in 2017
India on its way up, rising to the top three global markets In the ever growing Indian market, demand growth is increasing as compared to other leading markets, such as China and Japan and possible even USA. Although there are a few concerns about the insufficient power demand growth and increasing incidence of grid curtailments, India still retains a strong outlook toward solar power, so much so that the total installed capacity is expected to be somewhere around 18 GW by the end of the year 2017 expected to be a fruitful year for solar industry in India - Around 14 GW of utility scale projects are in pipeline - Out of this 14 GW, 7.7 GW is expected to be commissioned in 2017 itself - Rooftop solar will also continue its spectacular growth trajectory in 2017.I t is expected that around 1.1 GW of rooftop solar capacity will be added in 2017, up 75% from 2016, driven by capital subsidies and substantial demand from public sector - Total solar capacity of India expected to be 8.8 GW after combining 1.1 GW of expected rooftop solar capacity Factors that will help in sustaining renewable energy demand in the coming years - Expected reduction in solar tariffs to below the critical Rs 4/ KWh mark making solar energy the cheapest source of power - Government policies related to manufacturing, power distribution (UDAY), and the possible implementation of the GST will have a positive impact on the solar industry in 2017. - Leading international equipment suppliers are paying more attention to power industry and are developing specific pricing and product strategies for India Strolar in the New Year – Doing our bit in providing effective and innovative mounting systems. Even with demonetization acting as a stumbling block to the health of Indian markets, work on new projects has not come to a halt. The government of Odisha has finalized to setup rooftop solar panels in 15 towns for the year 2017-18. The towns identified are Rourkela, Burla, Sambalpur, Hirakud, Balasore ,Bhadrak, Baripada, Berhampur, Chakradharpur, Koraput, Sunabeda,Nabarangpur, Khurda and Puri. State-Owned Green Energy Development Company Limited (GEDCOL) has contracted Azure Power (AZRE) to carry out its first ever rooftop initiative for the commissioning of 4 MW SPV project. Strolar Mounting Systems is playing an integral role in this project by supplying 4 MW in the 1st phase. The delivery of the first lot is already in process and will be done by January 15, 2017.
