In Spain, during Holy Week Christians do not eat red meat or any meat as the church says it represents the body of Jesus Christ. Traditionally, people also did not eat eggs or milk during this time. Some common dishes eaten instead of meat include French toast made with milk, egg and cinnamon, salted cod, hard boiled eggs, and garlic soup made with bread and pepper to remind people of the forbidden meat.
