There are different types of warehouses like public, private, contract, and multi-client. Design considerations include warehouse space requirements. Principles of warehouse layout design and efficient operations aim to provide timely customer service while minimizing costs. Key warehouse processes involve receiving, storage, order picking, and shipping.
The six fundamental warehouse processes are receiving, putaway, storage, picking, packing, and shipping. Receiving involves verifying the right product is received in the right quantity, condition, and time. Putaway involves moving goods from receiving to optimal storage locations to maximize efficiency. Picking collects products to fulfill orders and is the most costly process, comprising 55% of expenses. Packing consolidates picked items and prepares them for shipment. Shipping is the final process that delivers orders to customers on time and accurately.

The Total Cost Management (TCM) Framework of the Authority for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) International is an Integrated Approach to Portfolio, Program and Project Management. It provided a structured, annotated process map that explains each practice area of the cost engineering field in the context of its relationship to the other practice areas including allied professions. In other words; it is a process for applying the skills and knowledge of cost engineering. A key feature of the TCM Framework is that it highlights and differentiates the main cost management application areas: project control and strategic asset management. In this paper the focus is on project control.
In the TCM Framework, the Basis of Estimate (BOE) is characterised as the one deliverable that defines the scope of the engagement and ultimately becomes the basis for change management. When prepared correctly, any person with (capital) project experience can use the BOE to understand and assess the estimate, independent of any other supporting documentation. A well-written BOE achieves those goals by clearly and concisely stating the purpose of the estimate being prepared (i.e. cost/ effort/duration study, project options, funding, etc.), the project scope, cost basis, allowances, assumptions, exclusions, cost risks and opportunities, contingencies, and any deviations from standard practices.
A BOE document is a required component of a cost estimate. Because of its relevance in the set of AACE International recommended practices (RP) a BOE document is present. This template provides guidelines for the structure and content of a cost basis of estimate.
Although not always happy with the opinion that the Software Services Industry is different than other industries, analysis of the BOE shows that the structure is applicable but needs to be adapted to meet the practise in Software Services. In addition, the terminology used does not reflect the activities, components, items, issues, etc. of the Software Services Industry. The tailored version; Basis of Estimate – As Applied for the Software Services Industries provides guidelines for the structure and content of a cost basis of estimate specific to the software services industries (i.e. software development, maintenance & support, infrastructure, services, research & development, etc.).
With this BOE a structure is provided for further standardisation of the Estimation Process, a more consistent use of metrics (sizing, effort, schedule, quality), transparent options for control (benchmark, audit, bid validation) and a common approach on assumptions and associated risks.(IT Confidence 2013, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil))

Big Data and Blockchain, the Taxman embrace it too
Nearly all corporates seems to be amazed and explore the opportunities of BIG DATA model. But one of the counter sides, may be that BIG-Data is also on the priority agenda of the Tax-Authorities. Although their interest is in the first place on the transactional structured mass data and not really Big Data. Also Blockchain and Smart Contracts seems to have the hype temperament in common with the way many corporates are interested in BigData. Blockchain promise a lot to exchange real data and seems to give new possibilities to distribute “the one single version of the truth” which will be visible and accessible by all partners, in real time. It also can be the glue between the 3 parallel chains (the physical, financial and technological (IoT) supply chain). The question is : “What is going through the mind of the taxman when he is thinking about the opportunities Blockchain could bring to him? Yes, the authorities also look to Blockchain as an opportunity to make them part of the transactional journey, having access to all information along the chain, in real time.

It explains that traditional cost accounting focuses on profit margins by product, but this does not consider system constraints. The Theory of Constraints identifies the constraint in a production system and prioritizes production to maximize throughput. The document provides an example of a clothing company that increases profits by identifying sewing capacity as the constraint and allocating production accordingly. It advocates adopting a demand-driven operating model to further elevate system constraints and improve inventory, lead times, and alignment between strategy and operations.

The solution integrates subscription plans directly in Odoo and provides a Raspberry Pi installation for easy setup.
Pavel Sodomka discusses his company Simple Hardware's migration from various tools like Vtiger, Hubspot, and Shopify to Odoo. Some key reasons for migrating to Odoo included needing integrated inventory management, manufacturing workflows, and e-commerce capabilities. While the migration process revealed documentation and support issues, Odoo provided a remarkably integrated system at a fair price. Odoo's customizability and growing community were major benefits, but it still lacks some modern features like live chat. With improvements to documentation, support, and responsiveness, Odoo could better compete with alternatives like Hubspot and Shopify.

Cycle Count Principles
4
5. Copyright 2018 Eficent Business and IT Consulting Services S.L. - Brussels, October 3-5, 2018 - #OdooExperience - www.odoo.com
The importance of inventory
● The value of inventories is a major item on the annual
financial report of most companies
○ Company managers do not want to confront
shortages or excessive space tied up in stock.
○ Stockholders want to know the profits and losses in
a reliable way.
● Two options appear: full physical inventory and cycle
counting
5
6. Copyright 2018 Eficent Business and IT Consulting Services S.L. - Brussels, October 3-5, 2018 - #OdooExperience - www.odoo.com
What is Cycle Counting?
● Regular process by which portions of inventory are
selected for counting on a regular basis.
● People, called “cycle counters”, are sent to the
warehouse to physically view and count the material
actually on hand.
● The result of these cycle counts are then compared to
the inventory records and used to make corrections.
● The full physical inventory is, in a sense, a
simultaneous cycle count of every location and every
item in inventory.
6
7. Copyright 2018 Eficent Business and IT Consulting Services S.L. - Brussels, October 3-5, 2018 - #OdooExperience - www.odoo.com
Why to Cycle Count?
● Improved service levels through focus on improved flow
● It is more costly to address inventory discrepancies
after they have had a negative impact on the operation.
● Eliminate the need for wall-to-wall physical inventories.
● Measure accuracy of the firm’s inventory records.
7
8. Copyright 2018 Eficent Business and IT Consulting Services S.L. - Brussels, October 3-5, 2018 - #OdooExperience - www.odoo.com
What should Cycle Count Deliver?
● Uncover root causes of inventory discrepancies, and
eliminate or reduce future inventory discrepancies.
● Increase labor efficiency, improve product flow and
customer service, by identifying early the discrepancies,
prior to those impacting on the operations.
● Meet the requirements of the accounting department
and external auditors for procedural controls.
● Provide appropriate tools, processes and procedures.
● Educate the distribution team on the importance of
having accurate inventory numbers.
● Provide the means to track and report compliance and
performance against pre-defined key metrics.
● Allow for reductions in safety stock levels.
8
9. Copyright 2018 Eficent Business and IT Consulting Services S.L. - Brussels, October 3-5, 2018 - #OdooExperience - www.odoo.com
How to Cycle Count?
● To find, fix and minimize the stock errors we have the
following tools in our cycle count system:
○ Cycle Counts: (or normal counts) that are
completed on a daily basis on a set of predefined
rules and procedures.
○ Zero Confirmations: Are opportunistic counts
performed by warehouse operators during the
course of normal day-to-day warehouse operations.
○ Slot Verifications: are triggered when either a
normal warehouse operation or a cycle counting
operation uncovers a count discrepancy within a
slot.

Setting up Cycle Count Rules
● First of all we need to configure how our cycle counting
planner will propose the locations to count.
● In order to define how and when to count we define
“Cycle Count Rules”.
● Cycle Count Rules must be defined and assigned to
one or more Warehouses. If none is assigned they will
be ignored.
11
12. Copyright 2018 Eficent Business and IT Consulting Services S.L. - Brussels, October 3-5, 2018 - #OdooExperience - www.odoo.com
Setting up Cycle Count Rules
● We can define the Cycle Count Rules in “Inventory /
Configuration / Cycle Count Rules”.

scheduled action.
● All the Cycle Counts to be performed will appear in
“Inventory / Operations / Cycle Counts”.

The Inventory Discrepancy
● The discrepancy and discrepancy % is computed for
every line in the inventory adjustment.
● If a line exceeds the predefined Threshold for its
Location or Warehouse, it will be highlighted in red.
● When trying to validate an inventory, its state will
change to “Pending to Approve” if at least one line
exceeds the Threshold.

Configure the Thresholds
● We can define the Maximum Discrepancy Percent
acceptable for an inventory line in either the Warehouse
or the Location.
● If defined in both, the one in the Location has
preference.
● If set to 0.0 in both, Warehouse and Location, the
Inventories will be validated always, no matter the
number or the size of the discrepancies.
