This document discusses food safety standards for processed animal exports in Thailand. It provides an overview of food safety standards in Thailand and concerns for the poultry industry. It examines the current situation of food safety in Thailand's export poultry industry, including regulations, certification processes, and case studies of hazards. It also discusses how flooding could impact the poultry industry and the benefits and constraints of achieving food safety certification for small and medium enterprises in Thailand. Recommendations are made to strengthen food safety.

The Fipronil Affair, Pesticides in Eggs - Why It Happened and Can It Be Preve...journal ijrtem
Most poultry productions in the world have a health problem with an external parasite, the red
poultry mite - Dermanyssus gallinae in their flocks. In the past few days there has been an international affair
with Fipronil application for the red poultry mite control, where residue harmful to consumers' health appeared
in eggs. Is this a separate case, or just a glimpse of the big picture showing uncritical red poultry mite control?
Control program for the red poultry mite lists and defines all important factors for D. gallinae control. Firstly,
it provides full safety of the control, excluding all harmful residues in eggs, especially physiologically active
synthetic chemical compounds with acaricide effect. The program focuses on preventive veterinary medicine. Its
main principle is the choice of products and methods based on the previous comparative testing and checking.
This is followed by adequate preparation of housing facilities, professional application of products and methods
as well as the implementation of auxiliary measures and constant supervision. Only in this way we can expect a
certain effect and rational control of the red poultry mite..

Our industries should embrace this worthy endeavour. For the first time ever, the feed industry has developed an international Feed Manual that focuses on the issues of feed and food safety. Joining together to make this happen are the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
This initiative has been assisted through the WTO-supported Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF). The undertaking is certainly no small task, but with the recent adoption of the Codex Alimentarius Code of Practice on Good Animal Feeding, a manual that explains in detail these new requirements is a worthy endeavor and one which the world’s feed and food industries should fully embrace and provide their complete support.
The Manual consists of five sections, explaining in detail how those involved in the production of animal feeds can implement the principles documented in the Codex Alimentarius’ Code of Practice on Good Animal Feeding.
While it is not meant to be an all-inclusive document, this Feed Manual focuses on the issues of feed and food safety and carries with it a set of Appendices which contains the Code itself and additional supporting information related to the manufacture of safe feed. Also covered in body of the Manual is safe feeding practices for on-farm feeding (Section 4).
"Rice Bran Oil Processing involves extracting oil from the outer layer of rice grains, known as bran. This process includes cleaning, de-stoning, and milling the rice to obtain the bran. The bran undergoes solvent extraction or cold pressing to extract the oil, which is then refined and purified.
Mycotoxins, toxic compounds produced by fungi, pose a potential threat to the safety of edible nuts, oilseeds, and legumes. These contaminants can flourish in unfavorable storage conditions, impacting human health upon consumption.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

POULTRY INDUSTRY IN THAILAND SUCH AS,
Effect of flood on feed mill
industry
Effect of flood on sanitation and

Effect of flood on food safety
60. EFFECT OF FLOOD ON FEED MILL

Could be cross contamination between water supply

may go out of order
or malfunction due to flood impacts and sewer
discharge may directly enter the
watercourse without purification.
61. EFFECT OF FLOOD ON FOOD SAFETY
During the flood, electricity
supply may be cut off. Without electricity hatchery
farm activities will be stop .
Slaughter house or processed plants
without electricity cold stores and refrigerators will
stop functioning. The meat poultry in these
facilities will start decaying after 4 hours.
If flood continue long time, it will
63. Food safety standards certification benefits
may be measured
as “external” and “internal” benefits.
External benefits are realized externally
from the system such as an increase in
market share or gaining customer
recognition.
Internal benefit is a benefit experienced
within system such as increased employee
moral or reduction in nonconforming product.

Legislation and Enforcement
66. REALITY IS THAT SMALLHOLDERS
MIGHT DISAPPEAR
Even if they have market access…
they may be unable to meet
High transaction costs for certain market outlets
Costs of compliance to meet standards:
Import requirements...disease status, traceability, animal
welfare, GAP, SPS, compulsory inspection
Product requirement.....quality cuts, hygiene
standards, packaging, labelling, traceability
Changing marketing channels
concentration in export, processing, and retailing
changes in vertical coordination of supply chains (for
example, thought Thailand switched from contract farming to
full vertical integration because of disease threat (AI)- not
happening as expected)
67. RECOMMENDATIONS
Food safety could be strengthened by strengthening the
links along the food chain and building in demands by the
next person in the chain
Thailand depute a separate organization that is
responsible, for food safety standards implementation for
the whole country with a clear objective, strategy and plan
Especially in case of poultry industries, government
should focus in Horizontal issues such as animal
feeding, guide to good farming practices, role of the
Veterinary Services in food safety, anti-microbial
resistance, animal identification and traceability, meat
inspection, certification, model certificates and also
included biotechnology.
68. RECOMMENDATIONS
Government policy should aim at providing
knowledge, training, consultation and financial
support while ensuring that there are sufficient
resources for auditing these factories.
Thailand needs a national policy to facilitate the
development of the food safety system through
the entire food chain to eliminate the conflicts
and the overlapping work responsibilities
among governmental units.
