Madeleine Leininger developed the Transcultural Nursing Theory, also known as the Culture Care Theory. The theory focuses on understanding different cultures and their beliefs about health, illness, and caring practices in order to provide culturally appropriate nursing care. Key elements of the theory include transcultural nursing, ethnonursing, cultural congruent care, worldview, health, human beings, society and environment. Leininger also developed the Sunrise Model to illustrate the relationships between concepts in her theory. The theory emphasizes that understanding a patient's cultural values, beliefs, and lifestyle is essential for effective nursing care and treatment.
