Key elements of the theory include transcultural nursing, ethnonursing, cultural congruent care, worldview, health, human beings, society and environment. Leininger also developed the Sunrise Model to illustrate the relationships between concepts in her theory. The theory emphasizes that understanding a patient's cultural values, beliefs, and lifestyle is essential for effective nursing care and treatment.

named a legend of the American Academy of Nursing in
1998 and has pioneered what is known as the Theory of
Cultural Care.It was from Madeleine's perspective that
the best nursing care happens when the nurse
understands the backgrounds and values of the nursing
culture. And she worked on how nurses interact with
patient culture.
