2. WHO AM I
(MISSION, CHARACTER)
• Mission: Create a professional persona based on my academic work,
vocational aspirations and creative hobbies.
• Character: Professional media creative who is a master and jack of many
trades but with a relatable and personal character. I wanted to keep it fresh
and honest, current but not post on things that are too irrelevant or
rambling. From:
• Professional minded. melliek.wordpress.com/about/
5. HOW/WHY IT WORKS FOR ME
• - All platforms stem from one hub that I have the most control over.
• Grouping my work together in terms of medium: media, visual, written
furthers my understanding of them and the feeding of further work.
• Everything is streamlined. I want to make it as easy as possible for myself
as well as others to discover me and find out what I have to offer.
6. LIVEJOURNAL: Not so relevant anymore as it’s an outdated platform but
great start-off for inspiring my persona and navigating smaller comms.
WORDPRESS: Great for publishing a hub but not-so-easy to engage with
others as other platforms: i.e. Twitter.
NOT SO RELEVANT PLATFORMS –
WHY?
7. FACEBOOK: Start-off for proper online ID but stagnated in terms of
extending engagement. Also in rare use besides keeping in touch/up-to-date
with friends/personal things.
TUMBLR: Really just an inspiration page for posting things I like that aren’t
mine. Not really an engangement platform thanks to lack of commenting
system and non-censured, broad scope.
8. TWITTER: Aided mission in terms of focusing professionalisation of
persona – who I talk to, what I talk about, who I follow. I don’t follow friends
on Twitter, tend to follow organisations, bloggers, media professionals and
colleagues. Mainly Media and Communication focused.

10. POOL
- Great place to exhibit work and have it commented on by like minded people and media
industry professionals
- Place to test out media projects and pieces within a smaller community which means more
attention and engagement
- Smaller, focused community means less spammers, greater attention and better critique
11. WHAT I’VE LEARNED
• How to utilise the tools provided by the platforms
• How to connect with others
• Understanding what I can’t control – followers, responses, attention
• Understanding the areas I can control – me, who I follow, my promotion,
licenses, where and what platforms I post to.
FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS
• Familiarise myself further with Twitter, Instagram and Pool.
• Engage more through greater social activity – gain proper followers, keep
up on trends and important topics, establish myself as a social creative
• Use communities to inspire myself to make and learn more
• Change from online lurker to online producer
• Transition from private anonymous persona to semi-public/completely
public and professional
