Nationalization is the process of taking private industry or assets into public ownership for the benefit of the public rather than individuals. It allows governments to expand their economic resources and power, but it also reduces competition and can scare away industries. When nationalization occurs, businesses are brought under government control and run as government organizations, which tends to reduce revenue, under-invest in businesses, and lower growth rates. Nationalization is sometimes justified when private companies in important industries like banking, transportation, energy, and natural resources are in trouble, in order to prevent economic collapse.

method where questionnaire were administered among the actors involved and the beneficiaries of the

effectively felt because both the policies and projects of UNDP are not well articulated in the study area.

The 21st century has brought with itself a new
revolution in the global realm – the information society, which
has changed the global macroeconomic landscape. The
importance of technology cannot be denied as it has changed the
way we live, the way we work, the way we make decisions and the
way we correspond with each other. Advancements in
Information Communication Technologies not only have the
capability to improve the technological arena, but they also have
the potential to bring about social and economic improvements.
Across the globe, countries have recognized Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) as an effective tool in
catalyzing the economic activity in efficient governance, and in
developing human resources. The role of ICT’s to promote
gender equality and parity in education can be achieved by
targeting their efforts not only towards education itself, but also
towards society’s cultural and institutional framework. For
example, in many countries, parents do not expect their
daughters to have careers outside the home. Consequently, girlchildren
are forced to leave school after completing only a basic
or elementary education. In addition, if the benefits of schooling
for boys far outweigh those for girls, economically disadvantaged
parents will typically choose to send only the boys to school. The
differences in the health, education and standards of behavior
between the men and women of India, all contribute to the
impairment of women’s ability to improve their economic
situation. The continued perception that women are not of value
hinders women’s ability to fully participate in the economy.
Majority of women in India are doing tasks that are not
recognized by Indian society as meaningful and work much
longer hours than men, but much of their work is nurturing, and
therefore not recognized as important. Even when women are
contributing in family income, culturally their work is thought of
as connected to their position as nurturer and therefore is not
recognized as productive. The inequalities that exist among
region, social class and gender prevent the growth of the Indian
economy from improving the lives of many Indian people.
Nowhere is inequality more evident than in the lives of Indian
women, and likewise, there is no sector more affected by the lack
of improvement in social issues. Hence, the use of ICTs to
improve gender equality in education and employment may
initiate a continuous cycle of positive reinforcing feedback effects
between gender equality in employment and economic

Introduction 1. In its resolution 54/4, the Commission on the Status of Women proposed some measures that Member States and other stakeholders could take to promote women’s economic empowerment and requested that the Secretary-General report to the Commission at its fifty-sixth session on the implementation of the resolution. The present report incorporates contributions by Member States1 and organizations of the United Nations system,2 drawing on evidence found in the publications of United Nations entities and other sources, and concludes with recommendations for future action for the consideration of the Commission. 2. Women’s economic empowerment, both as a process and as a functioning reality, enables women to enjoy economic rights and make decisions that impact their own lives and influence others. It opens up opportunities for women to achieve other dimensions of empowerment, including political and social empowerment. In addition to its intrinsic value, women’s economic empowerment can contribute to the achievement of other key development goals.3 Achieving women’s economic empowerment requires a comprehensive and coherent approach that pulls together institutions, policy instruments and monitoring frameworks, including the influence and leadership of women and groups working for their rights. It entails valuing, measuring and respecting women’s work. 3. The report also examines the macroeconomic policy environment and analyses the situation of women as workers, entrepreneurs and decision makers, including their contribution to the economy and human well-being. It makes the case that women’s economic empowerment is essential if societies worldwide are to exit the current global economic downturn and deliver balanced and sustainable global growth, with equality, justice and dignity for women and men. It focuses on areas where further action is needed to accelerate women’s economic empowerment, including macroeconomic policy, trade, work and employment, entrepreneurship and economic decision-making. While access to and control over assets underpins women’s economic empowerment, these matters are not considered in the present report in order to avoid duplication with other reports on the priority theme. 4. On first hearing the phrase ‘informal economy’ (IE), most people think of illegal activities, such as trading in drugs or prostitution, paying bribes or avoiding taxes. As such, it is often regarded as something that should be eliminated in pursuit of a formal economy (FE). Without much analysis, one can even assume that the IE is a transitional route to formality as economies grow and regulation becomes stronger.
Yet, reality seems to confound these expectations, at least in the short- to medium-term. The IE currently accounts for over half of global employment and as much as 90 per cent of employment in some of the poorer developing countries. Due to its flexible nature, the IE is in some ways better able to adapt to difficulties such as the current global recession, providing some measure of support to those most in need.
Since it provides employment and income for the most impoverished particularly women it is a key route to achieving the millennium development goals (MDGs) of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, promoting gender equality and empowering women. As such, some governments are beginning to become more aware of the vital role the IE plays, especially for the most vulnerable. Because of this awareness, some now look to policies that support the IE to © Muyeye Chambwera become more productive, provide a better voice in governance and a better quality of life for those dependent on it.
Failure to fully grasp the nature, dynamics and drivers of the IE presents a dilemma for the sustainable development agenda. Some of the questions may include:
(1) Does development entail eliminating the IE or working with it?
(2) Should it be suppressed or promoted, given its predominance? While this paper does not seek to answer these questions directly, it highlights key features and realities of the IE, providing a context for planning and pursuing sustainable development initiatives.

ABSTRACT
The study examined the effect of educational qualifications on entrepreneurs and performance of small and medium scale enterprises in Mainland Local Government Area of Lagos State, Nigeria. In this study, relevant and extensive literatures were reviewed under sub-headings. The descriptive research survey was used in the assessment of the opinions of the selected respondents with the adoption of the questionnaire and the sampling technique. A total of 100 (One Hundred) respondents were selected and used as samples for this study, the respondents were made up of (50 males and 50 females). A total of four null hypotheses were generated and used in this study using both the percentage frequency counts and the t-test statistical tools at 0.05 level of significance. At the end of the data analyses, the following results were generated: hypothesis one found that there is a significant effect of educational qualifications and performance of entrepreneurs in small and medium enterprises in Lagos State Nigeria, hypothesis two showed that there is a significant gender difference in the management of small and medium scale enterprises due to educational qualifications of the entrepreneurs in Lagos State while hypothesis three indicated that the effective management of small and medium scale enterprises significantly depend on the educational qualifications of the entrepreneurs in Lagos State, Nigeria and finally, hypothesis four revealed that there is a significant gender difference in the successful management of small and medium scale enterprises in Lagos State, Nigeria

Financial inclusion strategy was set up so that all people have access to banking and insurance services as well as financial literacy and capabilities that will help improve standard of living in the country. Therefore the study examined the contribution of financial inclusion on the economic development of Nigeria. Secondary data were collected from Central Bank of Nigeria statistical bulletin and UNDP Human Development Reports spanning from 1999 to 2020.The research work selected Nigeria as its sample and used the Error Correction Mechanism ECM to test the contribution of the explanatory variables Deposits from rural branches of commercial banks, Loans to rural branches of commercial banks, Number of Micro Finance Banks, Commercial Bank Loans to Small Scale Enterprise on the dependent variable Human Development Index .The findings from the study revealed that financial inclusion has not contributed significantly on the economic development of Nigeria for the period under review. The granger causality test also shows a unidirectional causality between financial inclusion and economic development of Nigeria. The results suggest that financial inclusion can help improve the standard of living of the country and reduce high unemployment rate in the country, if implemented effectively. The study therefore recommends that Central bank of Nigeria should approve the establishment of more micro finance banks in order to meet the financial needs of low income neighborhoods and rural dwellers. The Central bank of Nigeria should intensify efforts aimed at credit facilities to small and medium scale enterprises SMEs to boost financial inclusion in the economy by mandating banks to dedicate 10 of their net profit after tax to SMEs loans. Commercial banks should diversify their portfolios as this will help reduce various investment risks they face while extending financial service to the poor and rural dwellers in the country. There is need to improve the financial infrastructure in the country which will help banks in deposit mobilization especially the unbanked and rural dwellers in the country. "Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.
My study abroad in Bali, Indonesia, inspired this research topic as I noticed how globalization is changing the culture of its people. I learned their language and way of life which helped me understand the beauty and importance of cultural preservation. I believe we could all benefit from learning new perspectives as they could help us ideate solutions to contemporary issues and empathize with others.
