Summary Of The Burning Of Bridget Cleary
The Burning of Bridget Cleary by Angela Bourke tells the investigation of a death of an ill
woman whom was believed to have been abducted and later killed by fairies. The young vibrant
Bridget Cleary became suddenly ill after receiving a chill while traveling to a relative s house.
After walking a total of 8 miles in the cold she later fell sick with bronchitis and pneumonia.
These signs of weakness spread rumors around a small town with a population roughly around
100 people. Suddenly Bridget Cleary went missing, and her body was found a few days after she
reportedly walked out of the house to later return. The Burning of Bridget Cleary by Angela
Bourke asserts that the burning of Bridget for being a fairy was a response to anxiety and fear...

Bridget was a physically attractive women and she was above average when it came to
intelligence and wealth. Women who are extremely attractive were threatening to other women.
The men of the community were more than fond of Bridget many people personally knew her
and interacted with her. Bridget is described as, [a]ttractive, according to other accounts also,
and evidently a strong personality, she was well known around her home area, and not just
among the laborers she was well acquainted with the people in her community (Bourke 45). Her
strong personality and her attractive made her a threat to other people. Willingness to speak her
mind was against the social normality during this time in Ireland. Women were to be
housewives rather a normal person. Women who were not playing their roles in society were
often accused of being fairies. Bridget inspired anxiety towards other people due to her looks
and her knowledge. Therefore when she fell ill the idea of making her a person abducted by
fairies was not farfetched. Bridget was seen differently than most people in society, the
identification of protesters as fairies is symbolic of the way they position themselves outside, or
opposed to, mainstream society, Bridget was considered an outside for all her knowledge and
beauty (Letcher_________). She was defying the social standards by growing with knowledge and

The Death Penalty Is Justified
Allison Shu 2/25/16 Period 2 Objective paper on the death penalty Capital punishment is legally
authorized killing as punishment for a crime. The death penalty questions the morality of killing a
person as justification for their crime. It also brings to question whether the death penalty actually
serves as a deterrent for crime, and that some of the people executed are found innocent afterwards.
The debates over the constitutionality of the death penalty and whether capital punishment should
be used for retribution are also added things to be considered. Debates over the legal, moral, ethical,
and economic ramifications of the death penalty are ongoing across the globe. Evidence has been
found that there have been executions as early as eighteenth century BCE. However, today,
numerous countries have already abolished the death penalty while there are currently 18 states in
the United States that have abolished capital punishment, starting with Michigan, in 1846. The
number one thing to contend with is the morality of capital punishment. Those for the death penalty
argue that those who commit heinous crimes deserve the death penalty, while the opposing side
largest argument is that capital punishment is a cruel and unusual punishment. Capital punishment
can be considered moral though, because people who believe in the punishment say that those that
if you kill a person, then you deserve to die yourself. Bruce Fein, a constitutional lawyer and

Senior Management Plan
When the project team and resources are set, we should get started with the plan. It is necessary to
introduce the concept of planning into the organization. Senior management/personnel should

Student Chamber Music Concert
On Monday, April, 18, 2016, I attended a concert held by Wake Forest University s Department
of Music. The performance was titled Student Chamber Music I Concert and it began promptly at
7:30pm. 7. The program that was distributed when I came in was very helpful in explaining the
repertoire. The music to my surprise was very enjoyable! The concert began with a flute ensemble.
The first work they played was called Allegro by Demenico Cimarosa. This sonata was originally
written in the Romanic Era for the piano. There were six flutists playing. The next composition was
Madrigals by Samuel Adler which was composed for six flutists and written in the Twentieth
Century. The final programmatic song the flute ensemble played was Bohemian Dance ... Show

There were two students with violas and two students with cellos. They began with My Lady
Hundson s Puffe by John Dowland. At the beginning of this song from the Renaissance Era, they
plucked the strings of their instruments. One of the cellists left and began to play the harpsicord.
I could not tell when this work ended and when the next work, John Come Kisse Me Now by
William Byrd began. I felt awkward because neither I nor the audience gave applause. This work
was also from the Renaissance Era. The harpsichord solo was very unpleasant to listen to. Their
final performance was, Two masquing dances which featured The Goates Masque and The
Witches Second Dance . The works were composer was anonymous. Even though, these two
works were from the Renaissance Era, they had more melody and somewhat of a sonata form.
This was my least favorite section of the concert. Following the Consort were four guitarists.
They played Gypsy Dances, Op. 55 by the Twentieth Century composer, Jacquin Turina. The first
movement, Ritual Dance was slow and formal sounding. As they moved to the second movement,
Seduction Dance , the tempo started out slow but gradually became faster. The guitars seemed
like they were doing a call and response. The third and last movement, Zambra , was played at a
very fast tempo. There were more guitar solo parts in this section. There was also a rondo at the

Celtic Mythology and Folklore
Many people today can associate with the classic tale of leprechauns and a pot of gold at the end
of a rainbow. This tale is a recurring myth within the realm of Celtic mythology. Celtic mythology
was an integral part of ancient history throughout the British Isles especially Ireland. Authors of
this magnificent form of literature have created stories that were based on the events of that time
period and their works have transcended to future generations up until today. Overall, Celtic
mythology and folklore has had a magnanimous impact on the world in lending itself for priceless
amusable, educational, and historical excellence. Celtic mythology is the mythological literature
from approximately the fourth century B.C. extending to approximately the early third century as
Christianity was spreading and more of Celts were converting to Christianity. After converting,
the Celts dropped all traces of their former religion to be found by subsequent inhabitants of their
lands. First the stories and tales were told by oral tradition and later written down by bards, poets,
and monks. This literature could be found across Ireland, Wales, Scotland, bits of England, and
smatterings of Europe [insert citation from godchecker.com]. Generally speaking the ancient Celtic
religion like many other societies and civilizations at that time was polythestic as well as animistic
with various gods and deities dedicated to the various parts of the natural world. Over the colossally

Excessive Amount Of Asphaltene Deposition Essay
An excessive amount of asphaltene deposition may result in a severe formation damage and
sometimes blocking the flow path as seen in Figure 6c. Therefore, the injected solvent cannot
further diffuse deep into the matrix (due severe to asphaltene deposition) and eventually causes
injectivity problem. In this study, C5 injection resulted in the high amount of asphaltene deposition
in porous media (11.4 % per Figure 7) and it could block the main flow path, the fracture (as seen in
Figure 6c). The pressure profiles of C5 injection shown in Figure 8 can also explain the formation
damage caused by severe asphaltene deposition. At early time stage of solvent injection, solvent
mainly diffuses into the oil within the fracture path (while diffusing into the matrix as well) and
recovered most of the oil in this area (up to 80 minutes in Figure 8). Thereafter, the solvent is
occupied the whole fracture and due to the concentration gradient between the solvent and matrix s
oil, the solvent diffused into the matrix, dilute the oil by precipitation and deposition of asphaltene.
Continuing solvent injection resulted in more asphaltene deposition in the matrix and especially
fracture matrix interface (where the highest concentration gradient is) that eventually cause the
formation damage and reduce the injectivity. This can be seen in Figure 7 from time 90 minutes to
280 minutes where the injection pressure increased until the time that was no injection at all (after
about 280 minutes).

The 6th Millennium BC Bandkeramik Culture
After the last ice age, the European continent was transformed as climate warmed and sea levels
rose. Increased rainfall and warmer temperatures allowed communities to depend more on plant
foods and exploit their surroundings. Communities took advantage of new resources and grew in
size and complexity as hunter gatherers became farmers. Farming spread into Europefrom
Southwest Asia. Both DNA analysis of European skeletal remains and domesticated plant and
animal species confirm that migration of farmers helped spread agricultureinto Europe. The first
farming settlements mainland were established around 6500BC in east central Greece on
settlement mounds. As populations outgrew the lowland basins, communities moved to adjacent
sites with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This complexity incorporated larger size communities with more structure, interregional
connections, and increased material culture. The 6th millennium BC Bandkeramik culture in
western Hungary is highly characterized by its pottery with banded intricate decoration and timber
built longhouses. By 500BC, Bandkeramik was replaced by regional groups defined by their
pottery types as well. Rossen and Michelsberg in the west and Lengyel in the east. The
Trichterbecher culture is best known for their funnel necked beakers. Megalithic, or large stone,
monuments are another characteristic of the Neolithic transition. Stonehenge in southern Britain is
one of the most famous. Chambered tombs also became common containing the remains of
hundreds of people. The Carnac area in southern Brittany contains clusters of impressive
monuments including stone rows and adjacent burial mounds. Many axes that were found within
these mounds have been compared using spectroradiometric analysis and are tracked back to other
regions throughout the continent. Another prominent 6th millennium BC culture was that of the
Ertebolle Ellerbek in northern Germany. They were known for their pottery vessels of either
pointed base pots or oval bowls. Their culture demonstrated social complexity through their
cemeteries in which social ranking played a

The Grand Budapest Hotel, By Wes Anderson
Wes Anderson has done it again with his new film, The Grand Budapest Hotel. True to the style of
Anderson movies, The Grand Budapest Hotel is filled with gorgeous color schemes, witty lines,
impeccable scoring, and perfectly symmetrical frames. We even get glimpses of the usual crew that
act in the Anderson franchise, including Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, and Bill Murray. Shot in a
1930 s style movie frame, the story starts out on a snowy white scene in a small European town.
A girl walks to a memorial of a man, sits down by his statue and opens up a book. A voice over
then begins, as well as the main story, which is composed in a flashback recounted by an author
(Tom Wilkinson). The flashback depicts the author traveling to The Grand Budapest Hotelin hopes
of curing his writer s block. There, in the slow crumbling of the hotel, he meets M. Moustafa, the
proprietor of the Grand Budapest. The rest is history, literally. The main part of the movie takes
place in a war ravaged Zabrowka, with communists in control and the Grand Budapest Hotel
struggling to keep its usual amount of affluent customers. We are introduced to the conciergeand
manager of the hotel, M. Gustave, a delightfully flawed character who is charming and lovable yet
completely irresponsible. He lectures the staff about their cleanliness and professionalism yet sleeps
with the elderly (and married) women who frequent his hotel. One dowager in particular becomes

Interpersonal Conflict
Introduction
There are many interacting groups in health care institutions such as staff with patients, staff with
staff, staff with families and etc. When people have interactions with others, it has potential to
develop conflict in their relationship. Therefore, conflict can be presented in all aspects of life and
in all organizations due to the complexity of organizational relationships and the interactions among
the members of the organizations (Sullivan Decker, 2012). There are total three types of primary
categories of conflict including intergroup, intrapersonal and interpersonal conflict. The below
would focus on discussing the definition, history, the process and the management of conflict.
What is Conflict?
Conflict refers to the internal or external discord which results from the differences in ideas, values
or feelings between two or more people (Marquis Huston, 2009). Conflict is ... Show more content

These stages provide a framework to explain how and why conflict will occur and how can it be
minimized and resolved. The process begins with certain antecedent conditions which means have
been showed to exist in a conflict situation and it may increase the rate of developing conflict. Then,
the parties aware the conflict and are affected by their perceptions and feelings about the situation
which is perceived and felt conflict. The manifest stage is enacted through behaviours such as
debate, competition or problem solving. The last stage of the process is conflict resolution or
management and the resulting aftermath. Resolution or management will occur when both sides
commit themselves to carry out the agreement with a mutually agreed upon solution (Sullivan
Decker, 2012). With the resolution, the conflict will end and new conditions will establish which

The Poetry Of Sara Teasdale s Love Poetry
Sara Teasdale, an extraordinarily sensitive and almost reclusive woman, had a lifelong struggle
with her disparate personalities and ever changing beliefs which led her to write extremely
passionate poetry about her venture to find love and the hardships she faced along the way. To
say the least, Sara Teasdale had an extremely difficult life full of ups and downs. She went from
being a puritan young woman from St. Louis, Missouri to a successful but uneasy poet in New
York City to a depressed and disillusioned person who ended up killing themselves in 1933. She
constantly dreamed of and wrote poetryabout a lovethat would set her free from all of her problems.
Her feminine love poetry included philosophical depth and self examination and eventually made
her a fortunate woman, winning her the first Columbia Poetry Prize, later renamed the Pulitzer
Prize, in 1918 (Walker).
Sara Teasdale was raised sheltered, pampered, educated in private schools, and led to believe
that she was frail, chronically ill, and in constant need of protective care. As she grew up, she
took a few trips to New York and made new friends with very different backgrounds from her. She
dreaded becoming an old maid. She initiated several romances and began to distance herself from
the oppressiveness of her St. Louis Baptist background and gain a measure of mature self
assurance. She toyed with countless men for a few years, but ended up married to Ernst Filsinger,
a choice of middle class propriety and

reshaped the United States for the lasting benefit of all Americans. Lincoln began his civil career
as a lawyer and later becoming a member of the United States and Illinois House of Representatives
and soon after the President of the United States. I respect Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President
of the United States, for his dedication, courage, and leadership. Abraham Lincoln had a humble

Hamlet Tragedy And Insanity Essay
To be, or not to be? That is the question (Shakespeare 50).
The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark was written by William Shakespeare as it became one
of the most influential plays in world literature from the Seventeenth to the Twentieth First Century.
In all honesty, William Shakespeare, the Bard of Avon , was regarded as the greatest playwright in
English literature as his most famed plays include Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. The prominent
trend in most of Shakespeare s writing is the use of tragedy as well as moral insanity, resulting in
the protagonist s demise. Shakespeare was successful in implementing elements of tragedy and
insanity in the phenomenal play, The Tragedy of Hamlet, as he captured the hearts of the
Elizabethans as well as our contemporary society.
Dr. James Cowles Prichard, a Bristol doctor in London, created a medical theory called the Theory
of Moral Insanity to describe individuals who display a series of irregular behavior.
There is a form of mental derangement in which the intellectual faculties [are uninjured], while the
disorder is manifested principally or alone in the state of feelings, temper, or habits... The moral...
principles of the mind... are depraved or perverted, the power of self government is lost or greatly
impaired, and the individual is... incapable... of conducting himself with decency... (Ozarin)
In other words, this means that a person who has absurd ideas is incapable to form pragmatic
decisions as they become corrupted with

Windows operating system. I recommend Windows server either 2003 or 2008. I chose the
Windows server edition because of the company s already existing familiarity with the Windows

business operations and this is why in this situation a newer version of Windows would be a more
reliable choice.
Windows Server 2008 R2 builds on the successes and strengths of its Windows Server predecessors

The Power of Machiavelli the Prince Essay
Nowadays, it is politically impossible to commit to paper a training guide for leaders. There are
innumerable detractors to any possible stance or strategy a leader might adopt. As a result of this,
all training must take place behind closed doors, far from the prying eyes and ears of the news
media or the public. But this has not always been the case. NiccolГІ Machiavelli was brave enough
to give the leaders of his day a how to guide. In this work, The Qualities of a Prince, we are given
a point by point description of what a leader should do to effectively lead his country. Machiavelli
explains that, because leadership is (obviously) a position of command, [war] is the only profession
which benefits one who commands. (p. 33)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What they must now do, is gain all knowledge of the land left to them, so as not to loose it. This
is wonderful, and I will not be the one to say that knowledge of terrain is unimportant. But, it
stands to reason that the lay of the land will do a country little good if there is no need to defend
it. Machiavelli s logic is perfect for the situation of the time. It would do little good to know
defense if peace runs as rampant as war did. If we prepared peace, there would be no need to
know defense. There is also the statement that, to know peace, you must prepare war. Machiavelli
states this, again, as he lives through a ravaged northern Italy and a failing economy. If the
Medicis had, in some way, shape or form prepared just the slightest for these wars, there would
be (certainly) less of a problem. Rather, the Medicis focused on a strong economy, (meaning they
made more money) thinking nothing of war. When war came, they were forced to raise taxes for
defense purposes. Machiavelli addresses the Medici s faults in leadership by stating what should
be done. The Cold War is a prime example of preparation for war s failure. The United States and
the USSR were running a huge arms race against each other. Rather than prosper, as Machiavelli s
statement describes, the US fell into debt and the economy went

My Professional Development Plan Is Directed Towards...
My personal professional development plan is directed towards helping me become a better
teacher to help students learn and reach their full potential. The skills I am working on to be a
better teacher include, better time management, communication, and having a stronger teacher
voice. I plan to work on these goals throughout my time at York College of Pennsylvania and
achieve them by the time I have completed my student teaching, which will be in three years. If I
feel a goal has been achieved before I complete my student teaching, I plan to add a new goal,
while still focusing on my previous goals to make them even stronger qualities.
My first skill is to have better time management. As of now, I feel I do have strong time
management when dealing with arriving early and planning my day out efficiently. I do have
trouble with staying in the projected time frame during lessons. For example, if I have thirty
minutes to teach a lesson, I may take thirty five to forty minutes. Typically, this is due to
introduction of my lesson. I believe students need to grasp the concept in the beginning of the
lesson to be able to build off of the information and complete activities on their own without the help
of other students or myself.
Like I said, as of now, I do have fair time management skills, but they certainly need improvement.
My goal is to be able to plan lessons and keep them in the projected time frame; this includes being
within 2 minutes under or over.

Organizations for People Fifty and Over Today
I believe that AARP is one of the leading organizations for people fifty and over today and known
worldwide. The initial process that brought this powerful group forward was the idea of
Dr.Ethyl Percy. Dr. Percy is an important figure for retired teachers in the 1940 s (International
Directory of Company Histories, 2009). Dr. Percy, is reflected as being the main female in
history that led a high school platform as principle (International Directory of Company
Histories, 2009). As retirement came forward, Dr. Percy had an interest in the well being of
colleagues that retired as she, and had little means to live on. With this in mind, Dr.Percy
initialized the National Retired Teachers Association beginning in 1947(International Directory
of Company Histories, 2009). This tremendous woman added a living structure for the retired
teachers and provided a nursing home, which she alone began. Dr. Percy joined forces with a
gentleman named Leonard Davis, in the event that health insurance was in need to help pay for
the facility. The Continental Casualty Company, which Mr. Davis was associated with, began
enrolling these retired teachers in need and opened up the first policy for them in
1956(International Directory of Company Histories, 2009). The proceeds were great as policies
distributed through the mail, and monetary proceeds began to add up very quickly. Dr. Percy
again paired up with Leonard Davis and invested excess proceeds gained from Leonard Davis and

Because I Could Not Stop For Death Essay
Death can be perceived in many different ways. Most people would describe death as frightening,
cold, and dark. But, it is really the unknown that causes us to question it. It is inevitable, a fate that
we all must come to terms with. In these two literary pieces, death comes in different but relatable
forms. Both characters when facing death, has similar reactions but different outcomes. They give
us a sense of ease that we wouldn t feel when thinking about death. The poem, Because I could not
stop for Death by Emily Dickinson, describes death as kind and patient. The character states that
she could not stop for death, so death kindly stopped for her. In this poem death seems to
sympathize that she doesn t want to die. Death is in no rush to take her life, but instead
reminisces about her childhood while passing a school yard. Death seemed to be gentle in taking
the characters life and knew no haste during the last stroll of her life. In the play Death Knocks by
Woody Allen, death is perceived as funny, clumsy, and sarcastic. The first part of the play death is
introduced by falling through the window into a house. Nat isn t scared of death, but thinks

Instead they were reluctant about it. In Because I could not stop for death she described herself
as being too busy to die. Like Nat, she felt that it wasn t her time to die. So she traded her labor

comfortable with him. Nat bargains with death to stay alive with a game of gin rummy. Unlike
the character from the poem, Nat beats death and lives for another day. He never accepted his fate
to die. At the end he stills thinks someone was playing a joke on him. The character in the poem

Compare The Arguments Against Autonomous Weapons
In order to understand autonomous weapons, one must understand the basis of artificial
intelligence (A.I.). At their very core, A.I.s are algorithms (a step by step procedure based off of
mathematical data) that can handle tasks which human intelligence requires. This means they are
able to do reasoning tasks like problem solving, prediction, diagnosis, and so forth. On the
contrary, the A.I.s portrayed in films and fantasy novels often involves machines that demonstrate
human level intelligence. To put this into perspective, there is a scenario where an A.I. is
assigned to drive a car from point A to point B with a separate car accident between the points. A
realistic A.I. would still try to drive the car from point A to point B because its... Show more content

Stuart Russell, the director of the Center for Intelligent Systems at the University of California,
Berkeley, raises two points to consider as support to banning autonomous weapons: developing
A.I. weapons better than human soldiers and the availability of A.I. weapons (Russell, 2015).
To put differently, human soldiers can decide whether or not to shoot someone like a civilian in
an extreme environment. An A.I. weapon would only act within its algorithm. So unless the
algorithm accounts for every possible scenario, it will produce unfavorable results. However, a
game theoretical formulation by G. Arslan and J.S. Shamma invalidates this. Russell stated an
A.I. is restricted by its algorithm, so it cannot like a human in complex scenarios. But here, it s
possible for the A.I. to make much more complex decisions with negotiation mechanisms. An
example of this is a young boy, strapped with a bomb, walking towards a squad of soldiers. The
soldiers are preoccupied with other things, so they did not notice the boy. The autonomous
turret, near the soldiers, recognizes the explosives and prepares to shoot the hostile. The turret s
A.I. is only able to distinguish the difference between lethal and nonlethal targets. However, if a
drone with an A.I. built to identify age was there, it can prompt a more favorable scenario. It can
stop the turret s A.I. from killing the boy and proceed to two different courses of action. The

The Importance Of Family Communication
Communication is key to survival. Without communication the world will come to a standstill.
Every relationship needs communication to be successful. We all use communication in our day to
day functioning from our work to social activities, from birth till death. We use it in every walk of
our life and every waking hour of our day. Means of communication has evolved over the years.
Communication which started with the smoke signals, sending messages tied to pigeons feet,
telephones, telegraphs, postal mails, emails, cellphone, internet, blogs, social network, smartphones
and the evolution is still on and there is more is in store as the possibilities seem endless. Only the
future will tell the direction it is taking. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3074568
/ Communication in family plays a pivotal role to convey the feeling and thought process of the
family members. Verbal and non verbal communication between family members is called family
communication (Epstein, Bishop, Ryan, Miller, Keitner, (1993)). Communication not only involves
talking but it also involves listening to others. It creates closeness among family members and
allows them to share their feelings towards each other. Effective communication is a foundation to
healthy relationship whereas poor communication can lead to family issues like divorces, conflict
in families, weakening of relationships, depression and isolation. According to Lubinski,
communication is critical for older adults

The Salem Witch Trials Essay
By the end of the 17th century, one of the most devastating proceedings in American History
took place. The Salem witch trials was one of the most catastrophic events worldwide in which
people were accused, hanged, or sent to jail. During this time there was also a lot of chaos going
on in Salem when some girls started accusing innocent people of being witches and being
responsible for all the trouble that was going on the town. Even though not all those individuals
were sentenced to death, there were still three causes or theories of why the Salem witch trials
might have occurred and caused all this mess. Some of those reasons included that the girls could
have been ergot poison, that they were bored because of the type of lifestyle that they had to live
in, and because there was a sort of rivalry (jealousy) of land. After escaping from England because
of religious persecution and settling in the United States (Salem, Massachusetts), the worst part was
about to begin. When the puritans were settled in the new world, the theory that there could be
witches was spread throughout the town. The most accused were the women because supposedly
they were more vulnerable than men. For instance, the author declares, Ministers preached
repeatedly about the inferiority of women, using the biblical tale of Adam and Eve as evidence.
Women according to the sermons, had inherited Eve s original sin she was tempted to eat the
forbidden fruit of knowledge and could not be

The 1968 Tet Offensive In The Vietnam War
The 1968 Tet Offensive was a series of battles which took place during the Vietnam War where the
North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and the National Liberation Front (NLF) attacked the Army of the
Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) and U.S. Forces in South Vietnam. This major offensive by the
Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) forces which were initiated on January 30th of 1968 in
coordination with Tet, the Vietnamese New Year. The offensive is historically labeled as a military
defeat for the DRV forces while ultimately being a strategic victory through it s ability to turn major
American public opinion against support of the war effort in Vietnam. Johnson s decision to halt
escalation after the Tet Offensivemarked a crucial turning point in American participation in the
Vietnam War. (History.com Staff 2009)

much of the American public saw it [the Tet Offensive] as stark evidence that the war could not be
won at a reasonable cost. (Lawrence 2008) The NLF had laid siege to the U.S. Embassy in Saigon,
a major center of U.S. power, and attacked hundreds of cities and villages. It was reasonably
assumed by the American public that an enemy in retreat could not launch such a large offensive,
and inherently this caused great concern over the situation in Vietnam. The images of the American
embassy under siege and the stark contrast between the fierce fighting during Tet and the optimistic
estimates and reports emanating from Washington in the period just prior to the attacks contributed
to the interpretation of the Tet Offensive as a political and moral defeat for the U.S. (Walton, J.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Building System
1.0 Introduction
Human beings have long been using the activity of building construction. Take the Arabian region
for example, the pyramids in Egypt are one of the most shocking and astonishing wonders in the
world. Pyramids were built using a well organized building system which nobody still seems to
know, yet everyone recognizes and admits that it is so well built that it lasted for over 2000 years.
Humans for ages have been building shelters and buildings using different types of building
systems. For centuries, the traditional building system has been used for almost all types of
buildings. The mechanized building system was later introduced and adopted in many developing
countries. Nowadays, countries are tending to lean into a far more developed system due to the
many advantages it offers; that building system is the industrialized building system. But what
exactly differentiates the industrialized building system from the other two systems and what
advantages does it offer? This paper will briefly introduce the traditional and mechanized building
systems to compare them later with the industrialized building construction system and show the
reasoning behind countries adapting this system.
1.1 General terms in building systems
To introduce the mentioned systems, a brief definition of a building system is needed. Merritt and
Ricketts (2000) defined a building as an assemblage that is firmly attached to the ground and that
provides total or nearly total shelter for machines, processing equipment, performance of human
activities, storage of human possessions, or any combination of these. Merritt and Ricketts (2000)
expressed building design as the process of providing the information required for the construction
of a building that meets the owner s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Running Dream By Wendelin Van Draanen
Losing a leg was like having to learn how to suck in air through the pores of my skin. Somehow I
survived, but each breath was painful (Draanen 157). Jessica, from Wendelin Van Draanen s The
Running Dream, loved to run. Which is why when she lost her leg she described it as stated
above, like learning how to take in air through her skin. Her leg was a part of her, something she
loved to use, and when it was gone she felt off balance, both metaphorically and actually. I felt this
way when someone very close to me died. His name was Zackary, or Zack for short, and he was
my cat. When he died of a thickened heart wall and a thrombus collapse at the age of 1 and a

The offline retail environment of the automobile industry is that of manufacture to intermediary to
consumer. The process from which the product (car) proceeds from manufacturer to consumer is
that of through the automobile dealer. This intermediary batch purchases a number of models from
the manufacturer and sells them from the lot or storefront. This placement and presentation of the
product has proved largely successful. The tangible product is viewed, test driven and purchased
from the intermediary. An advantage of the offline retail environment is that of the face to face

Rather than solely online companies, who may only offer ghost storefronts with no inventory
and little reputation to defend. (Pitta, Franzak Fowler 2006) Value creation has been described
as the difference between the amount that the consumer is willing to pay for a product and the
costs of providing the product. Value can also be added to the product through outside or
support (Porter, 1985) activities such as brand awareness, speed of delivery, after sales service.
Resource Based View (RBV) theorists argue that information technology (IT) resources can be
used today in an online environment to enable a firm to improve efficiency regardless of
whether mimicked by competitors, or may yield performance impacts unique to a firm relative
to its competitors. (Melville, Kraemer Gurbaxani 2004) A major factor in RBV and enhancing
value creation better than a company s competitors is that of competitive heterogeneity. This
refers to enduring and systematic performance differences among relatively close rivals.
(Hoopes, Madsen Walker, 2003) Resources are the tangible and intangible assets of a firm that
can be used in the value creation process and the RBV consists of six conditions necessary for a
firm to confer a sustainable competitive advantage (Melville, Kraemer Gurbaxani 2004) and are as

the beginning of the story, Percy Jackson, a twelve year old boy, is taken to Camp Half Blood, a
safe haven for children of the Greek gods and goddesses like himself, and then, it is soon
revealed that Percy is the forbidden son of the sea god, Poseidon. Later, the camp s counselor

master bolt during the meeting of the Winter Solstice, which Poseidon argues that Hades has it
to backstab them both, and in order to prevent any war between the Greek gods and goddesses,
Percy is assigned a quest alongside Grover and Annabeth to retrieve Zeus s bolt from Hades in
Los Angeles and return it to Zeus as a peace offering by the Summer Solstice or by ten days. The
morning after, the three travel from New York City to Denver surviving attacks by the Furies,
Medusa, Echidna, and Chimera, and fortunately, with the help of Ares, the war god, they hitch a
ride to Las Vegas in an animal transport service along with receiving a backpack filled with clothes
and money. When there is only one day until the quest ends after Percy, Annabeth, and Grover
overstayed their break in a time delaying casino, they race into DOA Studios, the entrance to the

Concept And It s Implication On Accounting Practises
CURRENT ISSUES ASSIGNMENT: ESSAY Prepared by: Prashnit singh ID: 1242222 Lecturer:
Helen Tregidga Abstract The objective of this essay is to research about integrated reporting and
write about the concept and it s implication on accounting practises. For the research I used journal
articles to help me understand and explain the concept of integrated reporting. The results which I
obtained from the research are that integrated reporting is very useful for organisations because it
helps to develop new understanding of corporate report. However, due to lack of framework and
standards, gathering all the nonfinancial and financial information for an integrated report can be a
difficult task for organizations. Introduction The essay contains an introduction of integrated
reporting followed by the main body which consists of three questions. The first question is talking
about what is integrated reporting and its concepts. The second question is describing benefits and
challenges of integrated reporting. Finally, the third question is explaining what effects does
integrated reporting has on accounting practices. The essay concludes with a conclusion. Main
body What is integrated reporting and the concepts of it? Integrated reporting seeks to provide
insights about the relationship and resources used and affected by an organization. According to

Ancient Era Vs Renaissance Era
Great discussion post this week! You have chosen some great artifacts from each era. All are great
advanced designs for each era and truly fascinating to look at as well. Between the Saqqara Bird,
The Morgan Crusader Bible, and The Gutenberg Press you can see each era s culture through the
artifacts and how they do all differ. It is funny to notice though that the Ancient Era and the
RenaissanceEra artifacts that you have chosen are both made out of wood. Even though these
periods are during two different times, wood was still used and carved for both artifacts. This
was something I just thought when looking at the images you have provided. I also wanted to
mention that the artifact you have chosen for the Ancient Era is similar to what I have chosen as
well. I chose the Shabti dolls, which is similar to the artifact you have chosen, although the
Saqqara Bird s purpose is still not really known. Anyway, there are many differences between all
three artifacts. All three are beautifully crafted, but in three different and unique ways for each era.
The Saqqara Bird is smoothly crafted and rather simple where the Bible and printing pressfrom the
other two eras are more detailed and elaborate. You can see the changes in time through the artifacts
and the skills and culture through each. The printingpress is a huge advancement and just goes to
show you the culture during this time period. The bird and the Bible also show the spirituality
and faith and even religion of each era, while the printing press does not. The manuscript that
you have selected is also made and written by hand in this era and the printing press in the next
era shows how all that can now be done by machine. All three artifacts are created differently
because of the changes in each time frame. You can see how the artifacts advance and how the
cultures have evolved as well and what was really important during each era. It seems like in the
ancient era the afterlife was a huge concern and belief for these people, while during the middle era
it has more of a focus on religion and sharing that, while in the Renaissance era it was more focused
on advancements and production created from the printing press. Contemporary human creative

Asylum Seekers In Australia Essay
Asylum seekers are people who have left their home country to find asylum in another country as a
political refugee. Now in Australia, asylum seekers are being forced to detention centres by the
Australian government. Citizens of the Australian community are deciding whether asylum seekers
should be allowed to become residents in Australia. Asylum seekers should be given asylum in
Australia because they have not committed any crimes and Australia takes a minimum number of
asylum seekers in a year compared to other underdeveloped countries. Furthermore, asylum seekers
have greatly contributed to the Australian society.
The Australian government had signed The Refugee convention but are now not following the

how to treat and help refugees and asylum seekers. Article 31 of the Refugee convention clearly

Similarly, in smaller communities who is known or how many one knows indicates success.
Reputation and status is prevalent on every scale of society and in history, how someone is known
when they are not present dictates all possible misconceptions. This is seen biblically in the book
of Ecclesiastes 7:1 where it reads A good name is better than precious ointment, and day of death
better than birth . This quotation explains that one must work ten times as hard to produce a proper
name than any material possession or luxury; this is most important in the sense that when one

The Early Stages of Biodiesel
Biofuel is a fuel that contains energy from geologically recent carbon fixation, which is made by
living organisms. Carbon fixation, most commonly occurs in plants and microalgae. This fuel can
be converted into liquid, solid and gas form. Biofuel is consider healthy for the environment, clean
burning, meaning that the carbon dioxide released when burning it is balanced by the carbon
dioxide absorbed by the plants that are grown to produce it. Biofuel has many uses, one being for
transportation, this fuel is known as biodiesel. Biodiesel is made up of recycled cooking oil,
soybean oil, vegetable oils and other fats. Not all the oils and fats are used for fuel, there put
through a chemical process called trans esterification which splits the oils into two parts, alkyl
esters and glycerin. The esters are used for fuel but the glycerin is used for other things such as
soaps and make ups. Biodiesel can be easily used in any diesel engine without needing to do any
modifications. It typically produces sixty percent less carbon dioxide emission the petroleum
making it a lot more environmentally friendly, plus who doesn t enjoy the smell of french fries

The Early Stages of Biodiesel Although biodiesel may seem relatively new, with less than a
decade of commercial scale production across the United States, the concept of biodiesel is
shockingly old. The inventors name was Rudolf Diesel; he envisioned vegetable oil becoming a
fuel source for his engine.

Analyzing the Current and Future Economic Status of Ohio
This paper will start by tackling the economic situation in Ohio by defining the main terms which
we will use from time to time in this economic analysis. We will define recession and depression in
order to put these matters in the right perspective. According to the National Bureau of Economic

starts. This continues until the time when those business activities reach the bottom. In average, a
recession lasts for one year. Depression on the other hand is a downturn in economic activity. A
great example is the Great Depression of 1930. The term recession was coined during this period in
order to differentiate the event of 1930 from the smaller economic declines of 1910 and 1913
(Smiley, 2008). So we can lightly say that a depression can be said to be a recession that lasts
longer and its business activity decline is larger.
Having defined both the recession and depression, we can point out the difference. The changes
in GNP are the best test to use in getting the differences between the two terms. For a depression,
the GNP declines by more than 10 per cent (Moffat, n.d). On the other hand a recession is an
economic decline that is less severe. A number of world leaders have warmed of the looming

Integration of Women into the Armed Forces Essay
Today s military includes women who train at boot camps, serve on warships and fly combat
planes. Women currently represent fifteen percent of military personnel, and their presence is
increasing among new recruits, up twenty five percent in the A ir Force. Among officers and
enlisted personnel, fifty five percent, or 107, 733 women report some form of sexual harassment.
Recent accusations of sexual misconduct against drillsergeants at the Aberdeen Proving Ground,
and a separate case against Ser geant Major Gene McKinney of the US Army, have some people
questioning whether integrationof women in the militaryhas been successful. In addition to sexual
harassment, gender integration issues include ingrained cultural patterns,... Show more content on

The Army examination of the drill sergeant selection sys tem found it did not consider a candidate
s maturity or complete a thorough background check. There was no close investigation of
instances where drill sergeants had beaten their wives, which was a particular problem with some
of the accused at the Aberd een Proving Ground. The military s position is that the problems of
sexual harassment int eh military can be attributed to a lack of leadership, detailed in two army
investigations (Barry and Thomas 49; Schitt A1, A19).
Opponents of the military s lack fo leadership reasoning believe the problems lie in how the
military environment facilitates sexual harassment, in addition to making it difficult for women to
resist or report instances of sexual advanes. They fee l the creed of drill sergeants, the power of
the military structure, and the fat that military women can not just walk away from their jobs
contributes to drill sergeants having powers over women that result in sexual harassment. These
issues are explain ed by civilian psychiatrist Major Elsbeth Ritchie in testimony at the court martial
of a drill sergeant from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Ritchie explains that fear of sexual
harassment in the military is elevated due to a drill sergeant creed of I am Mother, I am Father, and
God to recruits (qtd. Sciolino, pg. A14). Furthermore, the military structure is so

Carey Price Case Study
Can Carey Price repeat?
MONTREAL, QC Winner of four trophies at the NHL awards and a gold medal at the 2014 Winter
Olympics, Carey Price has had a dream year. All that s missing is a Stanley Cup ring.
For that to happen, it will need more than a perfect year from Carey Price. The team in front of
him, in this case, the Montreal Canadiens, will have to perform well. In the 2014 2015 season,
there were times in the season that Carey Price kept the team afloat. There were moments where
his defense wasn t as solid as it should have been and Price showed hockey fans why he was the
season s most valuable player.
Now, the question is...can he repeat such an incredible year?
I personally fully expect Carey Price to have a very good season, ... Show more content on

Firstly, the long term addition of Jeff Petry, who looked like a top pairing defenseman in last
playoffs, will certainly bring an element of stability to this Montreal defense. Petry has signed a 6
year deal with the Canadiens and at the age of 27, this deal takes him through his prime years.
Secondly, the addition of Petry also allows Markov and Subban to play a bit less hockey in a
lenghty season, which will allow the two most relied on defensemen to have a bit more energy
throughout the season and into the playoffs.
Finally, the Montreal defense is improved in the sense that it is as deep as it ever has been.
General manager Marc Bergevin has definitely put emphasis on defensemen this off season. The
signings of Joel Hanley, Ryan Johnston, Mark Barberio and the drafting of Noah Juulsen and Simon
Bourque demonstrates this focus.
Out of this list, I am intrigued by defenseman Mark Barberio, a Montreal native. He is a quick
skater for his big frame and has excellent vision offensively. He has been able to put up a lot of
points in his junior career with the Moncton Wildcats (168 points in 261 games) and in the AHL
with the Syracuse Crunch (134 points in 215 games). He hasn t been able to bring that production
to the NHL level, but at 25 years old, he remains an interesting depth

Food, Fashion, And Lifestyle During The Elizabethan Era
The Elizabethan Era was the time between 1558 1603, and it was commonly known as the
golden age in English history. This time period is called the Elizabethan Era because Elizabeth I
was the queen at the time, and was a very influential leader. The Elizabethan Era was part of the
Renaissance, or rebirth, which brought many new creative ideas and new ways of thinking to the
people of England. These ideas brought about new style trends, class separations, and cuisine.
These things greatly influenced the people who lived during this time period in many ways. Food,
fashion, and style had a huge impact on the lives of people during the Renaissance time period, and
continues to carry out its impact in the world today. Food during this time period

Analysis on a Modest Proposal
English Commentary Digression
A modest proposal by Jonathan Swift is a rhetoric piece that satirizes the dismal political, social and
economic conditions in 18th century Ireland. As a solution, the preposterous proposal suggests that
the Irish eat their own babies; as it is logically viable, and economically profitable: a condition
adhering to the rational mentality of the age of reason. Swift develops his argument on two levels:
A seemingly intellectual persona, caricaturized on a stereotypical upper class Englishman who
promotes cannibalism through the use of subtle euphemisms. And the other, as himself, cleverly
veiled in the caustic undertones of the pamphlet who is appalled at the plight of the Irish. Swift
uses this dual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The trustworthiness of the persona is further questioned, as he justifies himself by Psalmanazar
(another authority), who is known to be a fraud.
The persona uses the form of a ceremonial speech to dress his proposal, disgracing the condition
of the Irish, in light of his visionary idea. The features of a speech as such would include strategic
procatalepsis [1] (some scrupulous people might be apt to censure such a practice, although very
unjustly indeed) adopted by the persona, to disillusion the reader into believing he has taken into
consideration all possible objections; reflective of him being both well researched and reasonable.
To an extent the sophistry[2] achieved in this extract through double negatives, It is not improbable
confuses the reader into agreement with the persona. This is further complemented by his tone of
matter of fact seriousness, veiling the actual absurdity of the proposal. On a literal level, these
persuasive tactics establish him as credible. However, Swift s deriding undertones expose them as
an obvious hoax to sway the audience.
It is at this point the audience realizes that the proposal is a satire, as the persona confidently refers
to then current events of known unreliability to assure his credence. Swift uses this irony to reveal
the persona as a sham, and hence awaken the audience to the reality, that the proposal is not meant
to be taken seriously.
The proposal

Why Should Kids Become Adults At 18
Why should kids become adults at 18?
Well at that age they are starting to make the choices of an adult, so the should be known as one.
we should be known as an adult at this age because we can make the decisions of an adult. We are
mature enough to be an adult.
At 18 we are showing that we are mature enough to make the decisions of an adult. Julie Beck
wrote the mature age of an adult is 18, science has proven that. What she means is that science has
shown that we can be mature adults at 18. This paragraph proves my point on the FACT that we
are mature enough at 18 to become an adult. 18 is definitely old enough to vote. At 18 we start
paying more attention to the world around us, including politics. We should be able to vote at 18.

Expressionism In Pink Panther
When examining art, art theory can provide useful tools in understanding, appreciating, and
extracting both superficial and deeper meanings from the work. It also assists in quantifying what
art is; the case has been made that artistic license does not equate art, and boundaries help to create
context and meaning. In Terry Barrett s book, Why is That Art?: Aesthetics
and Criticism of
Contemporary Art, he delves into art theory through the lens of realism, cognitivism, and
expressionism, using contributions from theorists both ancient and modern. Renowned pop artist,
Jeff Koons, presents something of an analytical conundrum in much of his art, as it can be analyzed
through the lens of all three categories. His sculpture, Pink Panther, when analyzed through realism,
provides a succinct reflection of many deeply ingrained cultural attitudes and expectations. The
following will analyze Pink Panther using realism theory, offering a sample process of how such an
analysis could occur. It will also subsequently evaluate the interpretation, highlighting the strengths
and weaknesses that can be found when applying certain perspectives in art theory to a specific
work of art.
Realism Interpretation In Pink Panther, Koons used glazed porcelain to sculpt the image on the
Pink Panther cartoon embracing a topless woman, who is holding her breast. The fluidity of line is
realistic, but the reflective glaze renders the figures shiny like a plastic toy. This, combined with
the array of bold

Chosin Reservoir Essay
The Chosin Reservoir Campaign of the Korean War
During the pivotal 1950 battle, 15,000 U.S. soldiers and Marines, alongside another 15,000 UN
soldiers, fought through a force of 120,000 Chinese soldiers to reach the sea some 78 miles away.
During the campaign, U.S. forces successfully evacuated 98,000 refugees while inflicting heavy
losses on the Chinese army. The Marine Corps led the push against a numerically superior Chinese
force. Chosin also called Changjin, campaign early in the Korean War, part of the Chinese Second
Offensive (November December 1950) to drive the United Nations out of North Korea. The Chosin
Reservoir campaign was directed mainly against the 1st Marine Division of the U.S. X Corps,
which had disembarked in eastern North Korea and moved inland in severe winter weather to a
mountainous area near the reservoir. The campaign succeeded in forcing the entire X Corps to
evacuate to South Korea, but the Chinese did not achieve their particular objective of isolating and
destroying the 1st Marine Division. Instead, in a deliberate retrograde movement that has become
one of the most storied exploits in Marine Corps lore, the Marines turned and fought their way
down a narrow vulnerable road through several mountain passes and a bridged chasm until they
reached transport ships waiting at the coast.Following the successful landing of the X Corps at Inch
ЕЏn in September 1950, the United Nations Command under the direction of U.S. Pres. Harry S.
Truman s administration and the UN General Assembly, pursued the remnants of the communist
Korean People s Army into North Korea. On the orders of Gen. Douglas MacArthur, commander
of all allied forces in the UNC, the U.S. Eighth Army crossed the 38th parallel the prewar border
on October 7 and advanced up the western side of the Korean peninsula toward P yЕЏngyang, the
capital of the Democratic People s Republic of Korea. At the same time, MacArthur redeployed
the X Corps on amphibious ships around the peninsula to Korea s east coast. The X Corps
commanded by Maj. Gen. Edward M. Almond included the 1st Marine Division Maj. Gen. Oliver
P. Smith, the 7th Infantry Division Maj. Gen. David G. Barr, and the 3rd Infantry Division Maj.

Valuation of AirThread Connections
In early December 2007, Robert Zimmerman, senior vice president of business development for
American Cable Communications (ACC), was in his office sifting through a number of investment
banking proposals related to potential acquisition targets when he paused to consider the recent
presentation made by Rubinstein Ross (R R).
Rubinstein Ross was a boutique investment bank with a strong reputation for doing deals in the
media and telecommunications sector. During that meeting, Elliot Bianco pitched the idea of
American Cable buying out AirThread Connections, a large regional cellular provider. The basic
premise of the AirThread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to the strategic fit, R R believed that it could obtain a significant amount of debt
financing for an AirThread acquisition. Bianco was confident that the high quality of AirThread s
network assets, its valuable wireless spectrum licenses, and its steady cash flow would merit a debt
to value ratio as high as 45% to 50% based on EBITDA coverage ratios exceeding 5.0x.1
American Cable Communications
In December of 2007, American Cable Communications (ACC) was one of the largest cable
operators in the United States. The company s cable systems passed roughly 48.5 million homes
and served approximately 24.1 million video subscribers, 13.2 million high speed internet
subscribers, and 4.6 million landline telephony subscribers. Consolidated revenue for 2007 was
expected to be
$30.9 billion with net income of $2.6 billion.
Overview of Cable Industry Dynamics
The cable industry had been rapidly transforming over the last decade as a result of advances in
technology, changes in regulation, and shifts in competitive dynamics. In turn, these forces had
been driving large investments in network infrastructure that require commensurate increases in the
customer base to effectively utilize the new capacity. It was this need to acquire economies of
scale and scope that led American Cable s executives to believe that only a handful of very large
network providers would survive into the

Objections To The Adminstrative Process Theory
Croley faces many objections to his administrative process theory. Some objections are in defense
of the public choice theory while others seek to disprove the administrative theory itself. Despite the
outcome of these arguments, Croley seeks to emphasize publically interested regulation is a
possibility according to the administrative process theory and that under the right circumstances it
will prevail. The main claim being there is more not less to the story of regulationthan legislative
control and interest group influence, notwithstanding the inordinate explanatory weight these
factors are usually thought to carry. An initial objection uses the basic argument that a few cases of
regulation successfully advancing the public interest does not undermine the public choice theory.
This theory, known as the straw theory, puts forth the idea that regulation does not always end with
interest groups receiving regulatory rents, but does enough times to draw attention to the
efficiency of the regulation process. The theory should be able to incorporate these few cases.
Croley responds in this case first by explaining the conceptual criticism of the theory would remain
regardless of the analyses of the cases in this particular circumstance. Furthermore, if the theory
were to accommodate those few successful examples of regulation it would not have predictive or
explanatory power because of its inability to rule out any regulatory outcomes. In this case, the

The Mark Of The Dragonfly Theme Analysis
Themes are really important in books, and sometimes they can change. Some of the themes in the
novel The Mark of the Dragonfly are: when difficult things happen, you have to get through them,
if you put your mind and effort into what you are doing you will accomplish it, and, always persist
no matter how hard the challenge is. I will explain how they change over time and how they are
different. A themethat occurred towards the beginning of the novelis When difficult things happen,
you have to get through them. An example is Piper s dad died and she had no say in it
whatsoever. He sent letters and money every week until about a year ago, when he died. (Page
66). This shows that even if Piper wanted to or did not want to accept her dad s death, she had to
either way. She had to persist and accept that she had no one but herself. Another example is
when Micah got hit on the head with some caravan debris. Piper noticed that Micah got hit in the
head and that he was bleeding, Piper was not going to just stand there and cry for Micah. Piper
got up and tried looking for help. This shows that Piper put everything aside and was not going
to stop for anything until she got help for Micah. Another example is Piper needed a way for
Anna to get to Noveen, so Piper and Anna broke into the train. It s still here. Gasping, Piper
skidded to a stop and changed directions, heading for the station. Come on, we re getting on that
train. (Page 78). That shows Piper had a problem that

My volume and background noise was perfect and I made sure to try and keep a smile in my
voice to try and mask my nervousness! Based on the feedback of my audience, I do believe that
my message was received loud and clear on the presentation. Also, the questions from the others
made me feel like they thought what I was saying was very interesting. My conclusion, in my
opinion, was very soft and wasn t as strong as it needed to be. I tried to be sure that I left my
audience with something to think about and try and maybe go on a scavenger hunt in their
daily lives to find things that may be a skill I did not list. As with everything, I need
improvement in a few areas. The use of the word um needs to be nonexistent! Maybe that was
my anxiety and nervousness coming out? Either way, I need to eliminate the word from my
vocabulary especially when presenting. Also, with my tone of voice, in a few sections, sounded
like I was reading off paper. Even if I was those few times, I need to change how I read and my tone
when reading. My storylines were off the topic in one section, so I need to be able to go over my
presentation and outline a few times before going live to make sure I am saying everything I want to

  • 2. Summary Of The Burning Of Bridget Cleary The Burning of Bridget Cleary by Angela Bourke tells the investigation of a death of an ill woman whom was believed to have been abducted and later killed by fairies. The young vibrant Bridget Cleary became suddenly ill after receiving a chill while traveling to a relative s house. After walking a total of 8 miles in the cold she later fell sick with bronchitis and pneumonia. These signs of weakness spread rumors around a small town with a population roughly around 100 people. Suddenly Bridget Cleary went missing, and her body was found a few days after she reportedly walked out of the house to later return. The Burning of Bridget Cleary by Angela Bourke asserts that the burning of Bridget for being a fairy was a response to anxiety and fear... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bridget was a physically attractive women and she was above average when it came to intelligence and wealth. Women who are extremely attractive were threatening to other women. The men of the community were more than fond of Bridget many people personally knew her and interacted with her. Bridget is described as, [a]ttractive, according to other accounts also, and evidently a strong personality, she was well known around her home area, and not just among the laborers she was well acquainted with the people in her community (Bourke 45). Her strong personality and her attractive made her a threat to other people. Willingness to speak her mind was against the social normality during this time in Ireland. Women were to be housewives rather a normal person. Women who were not playing their roles in society were often accused of being fairies. Bridget inspired anxiety towards other people due to her looks and her knowledge. Therefore when she fell ill the idea of making her a person abducted by fairies was not farfetched. Bridget was seen differently than most people in society, the identification of protesters as fairies is symbolic of the way they position themselves outside, or opposed to, mainstream society, Bridget was considered an outside for all her knowledge and beauty (Letcher_________). She was defying the social standards by growing with knowledge and become more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Death Penalty Is Justified Allison Shu 2/25/16 Period 2 Objective paper on the death penalty Capital punishment is legally authorized killing as punishment for a crime. The death penalty questions the morality of killing a person as justification for their crime. It also brings to question whether the death penalty actually serves as a deterrent for crime, and that some of the people executed are found innocent afterwards. The debates over the constitutionality of the death penalty and whether capital punishment should be used for retribution are also added things to be considered. Debates over the legal, moral, ethical, and economic ramifications of the death penalty are ongoing across the globe. Evidence has been found that there have been executions as early as eighteenth century BCE. However, today, numerous countries have already abolished the death penalty while there are currently 18 states in the United States that have abolished capital punishment, starting with Michigan, in 1846. The number one thing to contend with is the morality of capital punishment. Those for the death penalty argue that those who commit heinous crimes deserve the death penalty, while the opposing side largest argument is that capital punishment is a cruel and unusual punishment. Capital punishment can be considered moral though, because people who believe in the punishment say that those that if you kill a person, then you deserve to die yourself. • 5. Student Chamber Music Concert On Monday, April, 18, 2016, I attended a concert held by Wake Forest University s Department of Music. The performance was titled Student Chamber Music I Concert and it began promptly at 7:30pm. 7. The program that was distributed when I came in was very helpful in explaining the repertoire. The music to my surprise was very enjoyable! The concert began with a flute ensemble. The first work they played was called Allegro by Demenico Cimarosa. This sonata was originally written in the Romanic Era for the piano. There were six flutists playing. The next composition was Madrigals by Samuel Adler which was composed for six flutists and written in the Twentieth Century. The final programmatic song the flute ensemble played was Bohemian Dance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were two students with violas and two students with cellos. They began with My Lady Hundson s Puffe by John Dowland. At the beginning of this song from the Renaissance Era, they plucked the strings of their instruments. One of the cellists left and began to play the harpsicord. I could not tell when this work ended and when the next work, John Come Kisse Me Now by William Byrd began. I felt awkward because neither I nor the audience gave applause. This work was also from the Renaissance Era. The harpsichord solo was very unpleasant to listen to. Their final performance was, Two masquing dances which featured The Goates Masque and The Witches Second Dance . The works were composer was anonymous. Even though, these two works were from the Renaissance Era, they had more melody and somewhat of a sonata form. This was my least favorite section of the concert. Following the Consort were four guitarists. They played Gypsy Dances, Op. 55 by the Twentieth Century composer, Jacquin Turina. The first movement, Ritual Dance was slow and formal sounding. As they moved to the second movement, Seduction Dance , the tempo started out slow but gradually became faster. The guitars seemed like they were doing a call and response. The third and last movement, Zambra , was played at a very fast tempo. There were more guitar solo parts in this section. There was also a rondo at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Celtic Mythology and Folklore Many people today can associate with the classic tale of leprechauns and a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. This tale is a recurring myth within the realm of Celtic mythology. Celtic mythology was an integral part of ancient history throughout the British Isles especially Ireland. Authors of this magnificent form of literature have created stories that were based on the events of that time period and their works have transcended to future generations up until today. Overall, Celtic mythology and folklore has had a magnanimous impact on the world in lending itself for priceless amusable, educational, and historical excellence. Celtic mythology is the mythological literature from approximately the fourth century B.C. extending to approximately the early third century as Christianity was spreading and more of Celts were converting to Christianity. After converting, the Celts dropped all traces of their former religion to be found by subsequent inhabitants of their lands. First the stories and tales were told by oral tradition and later written down by bards, poets, and monks. This literature could be found across Ireland, Wales, Scotland, bits of England, and smatterings of Europe [insert citation from godchecker.com]. • 7. Excessive Amount Of Asphaltene Deposition Essay An excessive amount of asphaltene deposition may result in a severe formation damage and sometimes blocking the flow path as seen in Figure 6c. Therefore, the injected solvent cannot further diffuse deep into the matrix (due severe to asphaltene deposition) and eventually causes injectivity problem. In this study, C5 injection resulted in the high amount of asphaltene deposition in porous media (11.4 % per Figure 7) and it could block the main flow path, the fracture (as seen in Figure 6c). The pressure profiles of C5 injection shown in Figure 8 can also explain the formation damage caused by severe asphaltene deposition. At early time stage of solvent injection, solvent mainly diffuses into the oil within the fracture path (while diffusing into the matrix as well) and recovered most of the oil in this area (up to 80 minutes in Figure 8). Thereafter, the solvent is occupied the whole fracture and due to the concentration gradient between the solvent and matrix s oil, the solvent diffused into the matrix, dilute the oil by precipitation and deposition of asphaltene. Continuing solvent injection resulted in more asphaltene deposition in the matrix and especially fracture matrix interface (where the highest concentration gradient is) that eventually cause the formation damage and reduce the injectivity. This can be seen in Figure 7 from time 90 minutes to 280 minutes where the injection pressure increased until the time that was no injection at all (after about 280 minutes). ... • 8. The 6th Millennium BC Bandkeramik Culture After the last ice age, the European continent was transformed as climate warmed and sea levels rose. Increased rainfall and warmer temperatures allowed communities to depend more on plant foods and exploit their surroundings. Communities took advantage of new resources and grew in size and complexity as hunter gatherers became farmers. Farming spread into Europefrom Southwest Asia. Both DNA analysis of European skeletal remains and domesticated plant and animal species confirm that migration of farmers helped spread agricultureinto Europe. The first farming settlements mainland were established around 6500BC in east central Greece on settlement mounds. The 6th millennium BC Bandkeramik culture in western Hungary is highly characterized by its pottery with banded intricate decoration and timber built longhouses. The Trichterbecher culture is best known for their funnel necked beakers. Megalithic, or large stone, monuments are another characteristic of the Neolithic transition. Stonehenge in southern Britain is one of the most famous. Chambered tombs also became common containing the remains of hundreds of people. The Carnac area in southern Brittany contains clusters of impressive monuments including stone rows and adjacent burial mounds. Many axes that were found within these mounds have been compared using spectroradiometric analysis and are tracked back to other regions throughout the continent. True to the style of Anderson movies, The Grand Budapest Hotel is filled with gorgeous color schemes, witty lines, impeccable scoring, and perfectly symmetrical frames. We even get glimpses of the usual crew that act in the Anderson franchise, including Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, and Bill Murray. Shot in a 1930 s style movie frame, the story starts out on a snowy white scene in a small European town. A girl walks to a memorial of a man, sits down by his statue and opens up a book. A voice over then begins, as well as the main story, which is composed in a flashback recounted by an author (Tom Wilkinson). The flashback depicts the author traveling to The Grand Budapest Hotelin hopes of curing his writer s block. There, in the slow crumbling of the hotel, he meets M. Moustafa, the proprietor of the Grand Budapest. The rest is history, literally. The main part of the movie takes place in a war ravaged Zabrowka, with communists in control and the Grand Budapest Hotel struggling to keep its usual amount of affluent customers. We are introduced to the conciergeand manager of the hotel, M. Gustave, a delightfully flawed character who is charming and lovable yet completely irresponsible. • 10. Interpersonal Conflict Introduction There are many interacting groups in health care institutions such as staff with patients, staff with staff, staff with families and etc. When people have interactions with others, it has potential to develop conflict in their relationship. Therefore, conflict can be presented in all aspects of life and in all organizations due to the complexity of organizational relationships and the interactions among the members of the organizations (Sullivan Decker, 2012). There are total three types of primary categories of conflict including intergroup, intrapersonal and interpersonal conflict. The below would focus on discussing the definition, history, the process and the management of conflict. What is Conflict? Conflict refers to the internal or external discord which results from the differences in ideas, values or feelings between two or more people (Marquis Huston, 2009). Conflict is ... • 11. The Poetry Of Sara Teasdale s Love Poetry Sara Teasdale, an extraordinarily sensitive and almost reclusive woman, had a lifelong struggle with her disparate personalities and ever changing beliefs which led her to write extremely passionate poetry about her venture to find love and the hardships she faced along the way. To say the least, Sara Teasdale had an extremely difficult life full of ups and downs. She went from being a puritan young woman from St. Louis, Missouri to a successful but uneasy poet in New York City to a depressed and disillusioned person who ended up killing themselves in 1933. She constantly dreamed of and wrote poetryabout a lovethat would set her free from all of her problems. Her feminine love poetry included philosophical depth and self examination and eventually made her a fortunate woman, winning her the first Columbia Poetry Prize, later renamed the Pulitzer Prize, in 1918 (Walker). Sara Teasdale was raised sheltered, pampered, educated in private schools, and led to believe that she was frail, chronically ill, and in constant need of protective care. As she grew up, she took a few trips to New York and made new friends with very different backgrounds from her. She dreaded becoming an old maid. She initiated several romances and began to distance herself from the oppressiveness of her St. Louis Baptist background and gain a measure of mature self assurance. She toyed with countless men for a few years, but ended up married to Ernst Filsinger, a choice of middle class propriety and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lincoln reshaped the United States for the lasting benefit of all Americans. I respect Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States, for his dedication, courage, and leadership. Abraham Lincoln had a humble beginning. • 13. Hamlet Tragedy And Insanity Essay To be, or not to be? That is the question (Shakespeare 50). The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark was written by William Shakespeare as it became one of the most influential plays in world literature from the Seventeenth to the Twentieth First Century. In all honesty, William Shakespeare, the Bard of Avon , was regarded as the greatest playwright in English literature as his most famed plays include Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. The prominent trend in most of Shakespeare s writing is the use of tragedy as well as moral insanity, resulting in the protagonist s demise. Shakespeare was successful in implementing elements of tragedy and insanity in the phenomenal play, The Tragedy of Hamlet, as he captured the hearts of the Elizabethans as well as our contemporary society. Dr. James Cowles Prichard, a Bristol doctor in London, created a medical theory called the Theory of Moral Insanity to describe individuals who display a series of irregular behavior. There is a form of mental derangement in which the intellectual faculties [are uninjured], while the disorder is manifested principally or alone in the state of feelings, temper, or habits... The moral... principles of the mind... are depraved or perverted, the power of self government is lost or greatly impaired, and the individual is... incapable... of conducting himself with decency... There are innumerable detractors to any possible stance or strategy a leader might adopt. As a result of this, all training must take place behind closed doors, far from the prying eyes and ears of the news media or the public. But this has not always been the case. NiccolГІ Machiavelli was brave enough to give the leaders of his day a how to guide. In this work, The Qualities of a Prince, we are given a point by point description of what a leader should do to effectively lead his country. Machiavelli explains that, because leadership is (obviously) a position of command, [war] is the only profession which benefits one who commands. (p. 33)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What they must now do, is gain all knowledge of the land left to them, so as not to loose it. This is wonderful, and I will not be the one to say that knowledge of terrain is unimportant. But, it stands to reason that the lay of the land will do a country little good if there is no need to defend it. Machiavelli s logic is perfect for the situation of the time. It would do little good to know defense if peace runs as rampant as war did. If we prepared peace, there would be no need to know defense. There is also the statement that, to know peace, you must prepare war. Machiavelli states this, again, as he lives through a ravaged northern Italy and a failing economy. If the Medicis had, in some way, shape or form prepared just the slightest for these wars, there would be (certainly) less of a problem. Rather, the Medicis focused on a strong economy, (meaning they made more money) thinking nothing of war. When war came, they were forced to raise taxes for defense purposes. Machiavelli addresses the Medici s faults in leadership by stating what should be done. The Cold War is a prime example of preparation for war s failure. The United States and the USSR were running a huge arms race against each other. Rather than prosper, as Machiavelli s statement describes, the US fell into debt and the economy went ... My personal professional development plan is directed towards helping me become a better teacher to help students learn and reach their full potential. The skills I am working on to be a better teacher include, better time management, communication, and having a stronger teacher voice. I plan to work on these goals throughout my time at York College of Pennsylvania and achieve them by the time I have completed my student teaching, which will be in three years. If I feel a goal has been achieved before I complete my student teaching, I plan to add a new goal, while still focusing on my previous goals to make them even stronger qualities. My first skill is to have better time management. As of now, I feel I do have strong time management when dealing with arriving early and planning my day out efficiently. I do have trouble with staying in the projected time frame during lessons. For example, if I have thirty minutes to teach a lesson, I may take thirty five to forty minutes. Typically, this is due to introduction of my lesson. I believe students need to grasp the concept in the beginning of the lesson to be able to build off of the information and complete activities on their own without the help of other students or myself. The initial process that brought this powerful group forward was the idea of Dr.Ethyl Percy. Dr. Percy is an important figure for retired teachers in the 1940 s (International Directory of Company Histories, 2009). Dr. Percy, is reflected as being the main female in history that led a high school platform as principle (International Directory of Company Histories, 2009). As retirement came forward, Dr. Percy had an interest in the well being of colleagues that retired as she, and had little means to live on. With this in mind, Dr.Percy initialized the National Retired Teachers Association beginning in 1947(International Directory of Company Histories, 2009). This tremendous woman added a living structure for the retired teachers and provided a nursing home, which she alone began. Dr. Percy joined forces with a gentleman named Leonard Davis, in the event that health insurance was in need to help pay for the facility. The Continental Casualty Company, which Mr. Davis was associated with, began enrolling these retired teachers in need and opened up the first policy for them in 1956(International Directory of Company Histories, 2009). But, it is really the unknown that causes us to question it. It is inevitable, a fate that we all must come to terms with. In these two literary pieces, death comes in different but relatable forms. Both characters when facing death, has similar reactions but different outcomes. They give us a sense of ease that we wouldn t feel when thinking about death. The poem, Because I could not stop for Death by Emily Dickinson, describes death as kind and patient. The character states that she could not stop for death, so death kindly stopped for her. In this poem death seems to sympathize that she doesn t want to die. Death is in no rush to take her life, but instead reminisces about her childhood while passing a school yard. Death seemed to be gentle in taking the characters life and knew no haste during the last stroll of her life. At their very core, A.I.s are algorithms (a step by step procedure based off of mathematical data) that can handle tasks which human intelligence requires. This means they are able to do reasoning tasks like problem solving, prediction, diagnosis, and so forth. On the contrary, the A.I.s portrayed in films and fantasy novels often involves machines that demonstrate human level intelligence. To put this into perspective, there is a scenario where an A.I. is assigned to drive a car from point A to point B with a separate car accident between the points. A realistic A.I. would still try to drive the car from point A to point B because its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stuart Russell, the director of the Center for Intelligent Systems at the University of California, Berkeley, raises two points to consider as support to banning autonomous weapons: developing A.I. weapons better than human soldiers and the availability of A.I. weapons (Russell, 2015). To put differently, human soldiers can decide whether or not to shoot someone like a civilian in an extreme environment. An A.I. weapon would only act within its algorithm. So unless the algorithm accounts for every possible scenario, it will produce unfavorable results. However, a game theoretical formulation by G. Arslan and J.S. Shamma invalidates this. Russell stated an A.I. is restricted by its algorithm, so it cannot like a human in complex scenarios. But here, it s possible for the A.I. to make much more complex decisions with negotiation mechanisms. An example of this is a young boy, strapped with a bomb, walking towards a squad of soldiers. The soldiers are preoccupied with other things, so they did not notice the boy. The autonomous turret, near the soldiers, recognizes the explosives and prepares to shoot the hostile. The turret s A.I. is only able to distinguish the difference between lethal and nonlethal targets. However, if a drone with an A.I. built to identify age was there, it can prompt a more favorable scenario. It can stop the turret s A.I. from killing the boy and proceed to two different courses of action. The turret s A.I. can shoot the boy in a nonlethal spot to neutralize him or alert the soldiers of an incoming child. From there, the soldiers can either talk some reason to the kid or disable him. Referencing back to Arkin s point, this is considered the optimal level of human control. The A.I.s makes it easier to accomplish certain goals but the hard decisions are left for humans to make. Also, this allows for more human control in a sense since there are more algorithms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During this time there was also a lot of chaos going on in Salem when some girls started accusing innocent people of being witches and being responsible for all the trouble that was going on the town. Even though not all those individuals were sentenced to death, there were still three causes or theories of why the Salem witch trials might have occurred and caused all this mess. Some of those reasons included that the girls could have been ergot poison, that they were bored because of the type of lifestyle that they had to live in, and because there was a sort of rivalry (jealousy) of land. After escaping from England because of religious persecution and settling in the United States (Salem, Massachusetts), the worst part was about to begin. When the puritans were settled in the new world, the theory that there could be witches was spread throughout the town. The most accused were the women because supposedly they were more vulnerable than men. Take the Arabian region for example, the pyramids in Egypt are one of the most shocking and astonishing wonders in the world. Pyramids were built using a well organized building system which nobody still seems to know, yet everyone recognizes and admits that it is so well built that it lasted for over 2000 years. Humans for ages have been building shelters and buildings using different types of building systems. For centuries, the traditional building system has been used for almost all types of buildings. The mechanized building system was later introduced and adopted in many developing countries. Nowadays, countries are tending to lean into a far more developed system due to the many advantages it offers; that building system is the industrialized building system. But what exactly differentiates the industrialized building system from the other two systems and what advantages does it offer? This paper will briefly introduce the traditional and mechanized building systems to compare them later with the industrialized building construction system and show the reasoning behind countries adapting this system. 1.1 General terms in building systems To introduce the mentioned systems, a brief definition of a building system is needed. All are great advanced designs for each era and truly fascinating to look at as well. Between the Saqqara Bird, The Morgan Crusader Bible, and The Gutenberg Press you can see each era s culture through the artifacts and how they do all differ. It is funny to notice though that the Ancient Era and the RenaissanceEra artifacts that you have chosen are both made out of wood. Even though these periods are during two different times, wood was still used and carved for both artifacts. This was something I just thought when looking at the images you have provided. I also wanted to mention that the artifact you have chosen for the Ancient Era is similar to what I have chosen as well. I chose the Shabti dolls, which is similar to the artifact you have chosen, although the Saqqara Bird s purpose is still not really known. Anyway, there are many differences between all three artifacts. All three are beautifully crafted, but in three different and unique ways for each era. The Saqqara Bird is smoothly crafted and rather simple where the Bible and printing pressfrom the other two eras are more detailed and elaborate. You can see the changes in time through the artifacts and the skills and culture through each. The printingpress is a huge advancement and just goes to show you the culture during this time period. The bird and the Bible also show the spirituality and faith and even religion of each era, while the printing press does not. The manuscript that you have selected is also made and written by hand in this era and the printing press in the next era shows how all that can now be done by machine. All three artifacts are created differently because of the changes in each time frame. You can see how the artifacts advance and how the cultures have evolved as well and what was really important during each era. It seems like in the ancient era the afterlife was a huge concern and belief for these people, while during the middle era it has more of a focus on religion and sharing that, while in the Renaissance era it was more focused on advancements and production created from the printing press. Citizens of the Australian community are deciding whether asylum seekers should be allowed to become residents in Australia. Asylum seekers should be given asylum in Australia because they have not committed any crimes and Australia takes a minimum number of asylum seekers in a year compared to other underdeveloped countries. In addition, a famous statement from Abraham Lincoln: Character is like a tree and reputation a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it, but the tree is the real thing . Analyzing The Current And Future Economic Status Of Ohio Analyzing the Current and Future Economic Status of Ohio Abdulaziz Musallam December 4, 2014 Analyzing the Current and Future Economic Status of Ohio This paper will start by tackling the economic situation in Ohio by defining the main terms which we will use from time to time in this economic analysis. We will define recession and depression in order to put these matters in the right perspective. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), recession is the period when business activities have reached its peak and a fall starts. This continues until the time when those business activities reach the bottom. In average, a recession lasts for one year. Depression on the other hand is a downturn in economic activity. A great example is the Great Depression of 1930. The term recession was coined during this period in order to differentiate the event of 1930 from the smaller economic declines of 1910 and 1913 (Smiley, 2008). So we can lightly say that a depression can be said to be a recession that lasts longer and its business activity decline is larger. Having defined both the recession and depression, we can point out the difference. The changes in GNP are the best test to use in getting the differences between the two terms. For a depression, the GNP declines by more than 10 per cent (Moffat, n.d). On the other hand a recession is an economic decline that is less severe. The Army examination of the drill sergeant selection sys tem found it did not consider a candidate s maturity or complete a thorough background check. There was no close investigation of instances where drill sergeants had beaten their wives, which was a particular problem with some of the accused at the Aberd een Proving Ground. The military s position is that the problems of sexual harassment int eh military can be attributed to a lack of leadership, detailed in two army investigations (Barry and Thomas 49; Schitt A1, A19). Opponents of the military s lack fo leadership reasoning believe the problems lie in how the military environment facilitates sexual harassment, in addition to making it difficult for women to resist or report instances of sexual advanes. They fee l the creed of drill sergeants, the power of the military structure, and the fat that military women can not just walk away from their jobs contributes to drill sergeants having powers over women that result in sexual harassment. These issues are explain ed by civilian psychiatrist Major Elsbeth Ritchie in testimony at the court martial of a drill sergeant from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. • 46. Analysis on a Modest Proposal English Commentary Digression A modest proposal by Jonathan Swift is a rhetoric piece that satirizes the dismal political, social and economic conditions in 18th century Ireland. As a solution, the preposterous proposal suggests that the Irish eat their own babies; as it is logically viable, and economically profitable: a condition adhering to the rational mentality of the age of reason. Swift develops his argument on two levels: A seemingly intellectual persona, caricaturized on a stereotypical upper class Englishman who promotes cannibalism through the use of subtle euphemisms. And the other, as himself, cleverly veiled in the caustic undertones of the pamphlet who is appalled at the plight of the Irish. Swift uses this dual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The trustworthiness of the persona is further questioned, as he justifies himself by Psalmanazar (another authority), who is known to be a fraud. The persona uses the form of a ceremonial speech to dress his proposal, disgracing the condition of the Irish, in light of his visionary idea. The features of a speech as such would include strategic procatalepsis [1] (some scrupulous people might be apt to censure such a practice, although very unjustly indeed) adopted by the persona, to disillusion the reader into believing he has taken into consideration all possible objections; reflective of him being both well researched and reasonable. To an extent the sophistry[2] achieved in this extract through double negatives, It is not improbable confuses the reader into agreement with the persona. This is further complemented by his tone of matter of fact seriousness, veiling the actual absurdity of the proposal. On a literal level, these persuasive tactics establish him as credible. However, Swift s deriding undertones expose them as an obvious hoax to sway the audience. It is at this point the audience realizes that the proposal is a satire, as the persona confidently refers to then current events of known unreliability to assure his credence. • 48. Expressionism In Pink Panther When examining art, art theory can provide useful tools in understanding, appreciating, and extracting both superficial and deeper meanings from the work. It also assists in quantifying what art is; the case has been made that artistic license does not equate art, and boundaries help to create context and meaning. In Terry Barrett s book, Why is That Art?: Aesthetics and Criticism of Contemporary Art, he delves into art theory through the lens of realism, cognitivism, and expressionism, using contributions from theorists both ancient and modern. Renowned pop artist, Jeff Koons, presents something of an analytical conundrum in much of his art, as it can be analyzed through the lens of all three categories. His sculpture, Pink Panther, when analyzed through realism, provides a succinct reflection of many deeply ingrained cultural attitudes and expectations. The following will analyze Pink Panther using realism theory, offering a sample process of how such an analysis could occur. It will also subsequently evaluate the interpretation, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses that can be found when applying certain perspectives in art theory to a specific work of art. During the campaign, U.S. forces successfully evacuated 98,000 refugees while inflicting heavy losses on the Chinese army. The Marine Corps led the push against a numerically superior Chinese force. Chosin also called Changjin, campaign early in the Korean War, part of the Chinese Second Offensive (November December 1950) to drive the United Nations out of North Korea. The Chosin Reservoir campaign was directed mainly against the 1st Marine Division of the U.S. X Corps, which had disembarked in eastern North Korea and moved inland in severe winter weather to a mountainous area near the reservoir. The campaign succeeded in forcing the entire X Corps to evacuate to South Korea, but the Chinese did not achieve their particular objective of isolating and destroying the 1st Marine Division. Instead, in a deliberate retrograde movement that has become one of the most storied exploits in Marine Corps lore, the Marines turned and fought their way down a narrow vulnerable road through several mountain passes and a bridged chasm until they reached transport ships waiting at the coast.Following the successful landing of the X Corps at Inch ЕЏn in September 1950, the United Nations Command under the direction of U.S. Pres. Some objections are in defense of the public choice theory while others seek to disprove the administrative theory itself. Despite the outcome of these arguments, Croley seeks to emphasize publically interested regulation is a possibility according to the administrative process theory and that under the right circumstances it will prevail. The main claim being there is more not less to the story of regulationthan legislative control and interest group influence, notwithstanding the inordinate explanatory weight these factors are usually thought to carry. An initial objection uses the basic argument that a few cases of regulation successfully advancing the public interest does not undermine the public choice theory. This theory, known as the straw theory, puts forth the idea that regulation does not always end with interest groups receiving regulatory rents, but does enough times to draw attention to the efficiency of the regulation process. The theory should be able to incorporate these few cases. Croley responds in this case first by explaining the conceptual criticism of the theory would remain regardless of the analyses of the cases in this particular circumstance. I will explain how they change over time and how they are different. A themethat occurred towards the beginning of the novelis When difficult things happen, you have to get through them. An example is Piper s dad died and she had no say in it whatsoever. He sent letters and money every week until about a year ago, when he died. (Page 66).
