The client has asked the creator to take product shots of their spice packaging and selection boxes, as well as create social media posts. For the product shots, the creator proposes taking them against a white background for a clean, professional look. They will also edit the photos in Photoshop. For the social media posts, the creator will write posts advertising offers and events and include the product photos. They set interim deadlines to take the photos by May 24th and create the posts in the final week to stay on schedule.

5. Idea 1- Images
• As part of my brief my client has asked that I produce a set of images which are product shots of each
individual pack of spices and then another set of shots which feature each individual ‘selection box’ of 4
packs and then all four packs together.
• The client didn't’t specify a style the images had to be taken in and they said that would be up to me, as
long as they looked professional enough to be feature on their social media and website. So, when
brainstorming I came up with two ideas, one was to take the images against a clean, white background
so that the black packaging looked sharp and clean against it. This would also ensure that the product
looked smart and of quality.

• What do you like about the idea?
I like this idea because I think it will make the products look more appealing and eye
catching to the customer- making them more likely to make a purchase.
• Does it match what the client wants?
This idea does match what the client want because, as they stated in the brief, they want
images which are “professional enough to use on social media and on our website.” and
taking the images against a white and sleek background would achieve this.
• Are you capable of delivering this?
I am capable of doing this as they are going to provide me with the products I need to
photograph.
• Can you do this on time?
I believe I can do this on time as they have 20 spice kits in the range and 4 selection boxes
so I think I will have enough time to photograph them.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
I do have the resources available to do this because I plan on using the studio in college
which has a white background I can use, along with a camera I can borrow.

7. Idea 2- Images
• My second idea for the product shots my client requested was a different style of photography, this was
to use an Indian paisley pattern which the company sometimes use in the back ground of their images
as that works well and would add some colour to the images- it would also fit the theme of the product
quite well as it is an Indian-themed product. It would also help to make the product come across as
more authentic which is one of the companies aims.
• This style would work well with either a modern/sleek style of photography and editing or I could edit
the images to make them a little more rustic to fit with the ‘Authentic Indian feel’ the company has in
some parts of its products.

8. Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
I like this idea because I like the pattern they use and I think it works well with the
companies style and theme.
• Does it match what the client wants?
I think this does match what the client wants because it would fit with their ‘authentic
Indian feel’ which they have described to me in the brief they provided. And they already
use the background in some of their existing images, so if I were to use it, my images would
be consistent with theirs, however I think a white background would also work well to
change it up a bit.
• Are you capable of delivering this?
I am capable of doing this as they are going to provide me with the products I need to
photograph.
• Can you do this on time?
I believe I can do this on time as they have 20 spice kits in the range and 4 selection boxes
so I think I will have enough time to photograph them.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
I do have the resources available to do this because I plan on using the studio in college
which has a white background I can use, along with a camera I can borrow.

9. Idea 3- Social Media Management
• My third idea is my plan for the social media management part of the brief, the client has asked that I
prepare a series of tweets, Facebook and instagram posts for them to use. There must be some to use to
advertise what food festival/market they are attending each weekend and another lot of posts to
advertise any offers they have- they are going to notify me of the offers when I get round to creating the
posts.
• They have asked that I create these posts after I have taken the product shots so that they can be used
in the offer posts. But the posts about what events they are attending must have images they have
taken of their stand on (which they have provided me with).
• My idea is to create short and snappy posts so that people are more likely to read them and take the
information on board. I also think featuring the images on the posts is a good way of advertising
because they will make the posts more eye catching.

• What do you like about the idea?
I like this idea because I think it will be something useful for the company that will
hopefully help them.
• Does it match what the client wants?
I think this will match what the client wants as they haven't given me much room
with this part of the brief to do anything else and it is quite a basic task.
• Are you capable of delivering this?
I think I am capable of delivering of delivering this, as I already have a clear idea of
what sort of posts they want from what I have seen in the brief.
• Can you do this on time?
I think I can do this on time, alongside doing the product shots they have
requested as that shouldn’t take too long to do.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
I do have the resources available to do this as I plan on writing them out on a
simple word document and then email them it so they can copy them directly
from the sheet.

11. Idea 4- Images
• To expand my brief from what my client has requested I think I could make it better and help
them further by doing other photographs as well as the ones of just the packaging itself, I
want to take images of the finished curries and maybe images of spices because I think this
will show the customer what they can produce from the product which will hopefully sell
more packets

12. Development
Use the next slides to document your idea development.
This should include mood boards and other visual examples of work. It
could include basic mock ups of your vision for the project using the
work of others.
If you are taking doing something outside of your ordinary skill set or
way of working, you could include test work or practice work here too.
There is room to develop a second idea here as well. This could give
you a greater variety of options to give to your client.
You will then assess your developed idea against the constraints of the
project before producing a final treatment.

website, I think these are a bit dark
so I plan to use idea 1 and use a
white background to brighten them
up a bit. (like the image below).
I think using a white background like this
will make it easier to see the packaging
instead of loosing the product in the black
background.

14. Assessment of final ideas for images
Suitable for audience?
I think my final idea to use a white background for my product shots is suitable for
my audience as they will be able to see the product clearly and easily which
could've been an issue if I’d decided to go for the Indian paisley pattern. I also
think with this idea, there isn't really anything to do with it that couldn’t be
unsuitable for their audience which is good because it means that their audience
couldn’t be upset of offended by my work.
Suitability for client?
If I follow out my plan exactly, which I will be doing, it will fit the clients brief
exactly which will hopefully result in the images being used by the company.
Appeal of the work: I think this work will be very useful for the client and will
appeal to their target audience because the images will be eye catching and the
social media posts will be informative.
Timescales for production: 3 weeks in total, 1 week for writing social media posts,
2 weeks for taking product shots. I think this schedule will give me enough time to
get everything finished to a good standard.
Costs: I won’t encounter any costs with this project as I will not need to travel
anywhere or pay anyone

15. Assessment of final ideas
Personnel: I will not need anyone to help me during this project as what I have been
tasked to do is manageable on my own
Legal and ethical issues: due to the nature of the work I have been asked to do, I
don’t think I will encounter any legal or ethical issues which will make the
work/project easier to carry out.

17. Competition/Market research:
Who is in competition with your client?
My client doesn’t have much competition that would directly effect its sales, the only company which it does have
immediate competition with is another artisan company called Asharun Spices, but they tend to sell curry sauces
rather than dried spice mixes, but they still act as competition when at the same events as my client.
What is their design/photography/marketing/promotional/advertising work like?
My clients brand is a strong one, their packaging and design is strong and stands out, this is why I didn’t want to work
on any design based tasks for the company because I feel as though its already strong and if I were to do the slightest
thing different it would be noticeable and make their companies design inconsistent which obviously wouldn’t be of
any help to the company.
As for the companies photography, I thought this could be something I could help with as currently, it isn't that strong
and the owners take most of the images on their phones so this is why I thought they would benefit from some
product shots.
The companies marketing is quite strong and they use social media a lot to advertise and promote their brand, they
have a lot of followers on all major social media platforms e.g. Facebook and twitter which help to notify where they
are that week or any offers they have on.

18. What wider market is your client part of? Undertake research in to that market. This could be in the form of
sales figures, audience figures, turnover, job roles, customer base, market share, rules, regulations and codes
of practice.
My clients product is an artisan product, so obviously its going be quite unique. However, when looking at a
wider market there are a lot of spice products on the market ranging from smaller brands such as Asharun
Spices who I mentioned previously, all the way to bigger companies who create jar sauces, like Pataks.
Obviously bigger companies like Pataks who supply supermarkets are going to have a bigger turnover and
figures in comparison to my clients own figures and turnover, but smaller companies like Asharun Spices and
others like Spice Monkey etc. are going to have a more comparable turnover and staff numbers.
When comparing my client and Asharun Spices, my client has more staff working for them and my client also
has a larger customer base because they travel to more events in other parts of the country and therefore
reach a larger audience. For example my client has 1,077 likes on Facebook, while Asharun Spices has 525 likes,
this means that more people are likely to see where my client is attending each weekend, leading to more
sales.

19. Audience/Customer research:
Who is the audience or customer that your client is trying to reach? Perhaps they have already told you. Perhaps you
should ask. You could also do further research in to the type of audience or customer you are hoping to appeal to.
My clients audience are typically both male and female and their age usually ranges from 20s to mid 50s, my client
says that people any older than this tend not to like curry or spicy foods. So therefore, my project need to appeal to
people of this age.
The audience are usually families, quite commonly they tend to be families with children in university and they buy
the product for them because they are ‘easy to use’.
As the company travels to attend food festivals all over the UK, it is difficult to pin down the socio-economic status of
the audience as the type of client varies depending on the area, however my client says they often get people from
working/middle class groups.
To allow my project to appeal to these types of people I need to make it easy, accessible and easy-to-process for the
audience as they are likely to be busy workers or young families.

20. Content research:
This should take the form of secondary research (exiting products from your client and the competition and wider
market) and also some primary research (asking potential audience, your client and your market,) to help you
formalise the content of your project.
An example of a company who have a similar style of product to my clients would be Rafi’s Spice Box, they market
their product in a similar way to my client in the sense that have a strong social media presence. However, they are
different because they use a different image style for their products, but I think this helps them to appeal to different
people.
Rafi’s spice box uses a completely different style to my clients, in the sense they use a different font and colour
scheme. They use purples and a more casual/informal font, I think this helps it appeal more to a young audience which
is maybe something my client should think about.

21. Treatment
In response to the brief you have provided me with on behalf of The Twisted Chilli, as requested, I will be creating a set of
product shots of each curry spice pack and selection box for use on your website and social media sites. I have been
researching styles of photography which reflect your request of ‘professional’ product shots and I have decided that I will be
working with a plain white background and bright studio lights to give the images a clean and smart feel which will be a
similar style to other larger companies product shots (I have attached some images to the next slide so you can see what I
mean). To keep the style of the images consistent throughout, I will be positioning the pack/selection box in the same place
in each image (just right of the middle so the images use the rule of thirds to make the image more interesting rather than
them just being central). Once I have taken the product shots I will be running them through Photoshop and editing
elements such as the brightness and contrast, this will further help to make them look more professional and polished.
For the second request in the brief I will be putting together and writing a set of Tweets and Facebook posts which will
advertise any offers you have at that time. I will also be creating Tweets and Facebook posts to let your followers know
which food festivals you are attending that particular weekend. For these posts, I have been looking through your social
media sites and I have seen that what you currently put on your social media works quite well and you get a lot of audience
response from those, in the form of comments and likes. So, I don’t want to stray too far from your current style of social
media management as I feel that is something which already works for your audience- my plan is to keep up and maintain
your social media rather than change or improve. My idea was to write a series of tweets and Facebook updates and put
them into a word document where you can copy and paste them onto the site. As for how many posts I will be doing for The
Twisted Chilli, I am planning on posting a Monday status of any offers you many have that week along with a mid-week
status telling the audience where The Twisted Chilli is exhibiting from that coming weekend. I will also be doing a ‘Friday
reminder post’ to remind the audience where you are that weekend. Again, as requested, I will be incorporating the images
I take in with these social media posts to help make them more interesting for the audience to read.

22. Treatment (visual elements)
This picture is obviously just an example of where the
product will be positioned within the images I take and
shows the use of a white background which I will be
using for the product shots. Even though this image is
quite plain because they have used white on white, I
think once the back packaging is against the white
background, it will look really professional and polished.

23. Interim Deadlines
To help me keep on track with my work and to ensure I don’t spend too much time on one part of my
brief and leave no time for anything else I am going to set myself interim deadlines where I have to get
certain parts of the brief done at certain points in the project. I have two main parts of my brief- taking
product shots and writing social media posts, production starts on the 10th of May and I will be starting
with the product shots part of the brief, I will be allowing myself 2 weeks out of the 3 weeks production
time to take the images and edit them as I feel that part of the brief will take the longest to complete (so
my first deadline will be 24th). After those two weeks I will then move onto designing the tweets and
Facebook posts in the final week of production as I don’t think this will take me that long to do, I plan on
creating 10 posts in that week which can be given to the business to post. (My final deadline will be 6th
of June).
Availability
Due to the nature of the brief I have been given I won’t need to be in contact with the client that much
and I will only need to meet with them on the 9th of May to collect the products off them to bring them
to college to photograph them, I will then meet with them at the end of the project to return them on
the 7th of June. (These dates have already been arranged and confirmed with the client.) Also, I will not
need to arrange any availability with any models as I won’t be using any for the images, the only other
thing I will need to arrange is access to the studio which should be easy to arrange on a day-by-day basis
when I’m in college. As for the second part of my brief I wont need any assistance at all as the client is
going to provide me with a list of offers and events they are at when I collect the products on the 9th of
May.

24. Feedback
At the end of the first week of my two weeks I will spend working on images I will email and show the
client what I have been working on so they can see the style of the images and they can then let me
know if they are happy with them, by showing them at the end of the first week (13th of May) this will
give me enough time to make some changes or redo the images, if needed. In my last week when I am
working on the social media posts, I will email them in the middle of the week (Wednesday 1st of June)
so they can see what I’ll of written at that point and they can say whether I’m on the right track, or if not
I can spend the remainder of that week altering them.

Due to the nature of the brief I have been given, I don’t need that much in terms of resources, however
