Manufacturing and the data conundrum: Too much? Too little? Or just right?, commissioned by Wipro, examines how manufacturers are using integrated data collection and analysis to improve production throughput, reduce costs and improve quality. The research is based on a survey of 50 C-suite executives from manufacturers in North America and Western Europe.
The survey shows that just 42% of respondents have what they consider to be a well-defined data-management strategy. However, 62% are not sure they have been able to keep up with the large volumes of data they collect, as it comes from too many sources and in a variety of formats and speeds.
The report also finds that while over 90% of manufacturers collect data from monitoring production processes, less than half have in place predictive data analytics, and less than 40% use data analysis to find solutions to production problems.

Ericsson Technology Review: Spotlight on the Internet of ThingsEricsson
The Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a fundamental cornerstone in the digitalization of both industry and society as a whole. It represents a huge opportunity not only in economic terms, but also from a global challenges perspective – making it easier for governments, non-governmental organizations and the private sector to address pressing food, energy, water and climate related issues.
5G and the IoT are closely intertwined. One of the biggest innovations within 5G is support for the IoT in all its forms, both by addressing mission criticality as well as making it possible to connect low-cost, long-battery-life sensors.
With this in mind, we decided to create a special issue of Ericsson Technology Review solely focused on IoT opportunities and challenges. I hope it provides you with valuable insights about the IoT-related opportunities available to your organization, along with ideas about how we can overcome the challenges ahead.

ICT Trends Article - Big Data - October 2015Garry Roberton
October has seen a slight drop of 3 per cent in the number of IT jobs advertised on Trademe while Seek ICT job adverts have increased marginally for the second month in a row, up 2 per cent. Auckland rose 7 per cent this month after a four month decline, down by 16 per cent from a May peak.
Big data is big news. The NZ government has tasked a new think tank, the Data Futures Partnership, with looking at how huge pools of data could be linked together and shared by private and public sectors. With IBM predicting that 4.4 million IT jobs will be created globally to support big data by 2015 the potential for future demand for IT specialist roles in big data is enormous.
Currently in NZ the roles of data analytics, software engineers and project managers dominate the Seek ICT big data job adverts. Given the rising demand for skilled ICT employees, especially in the role of data analytics, it will require a significant effort by all concerned; government, tertiary institutes, and industry, to address this anticipated demand and to ensure the success of big data projects.

CSPCR: Cloud Security, Privacy and Compliance Readiness - A Trustworthy Fram...IJECEIAES
The privacy, handling, management and security of information in a cloud environment are complex and tedious tasks to achieve. With minimum investment and reduced cost of operations an organization can avail and apply the benefits of cloud computing into its business. This computing paradigm is based upon a pay as per your usage model. Moreover, security, privacy, compliance, risk management and service level agreement are critical issues in cloud computing environment. In fact, there is dire need of a model which can tackle and handle all the security and privacy issues. Therefore, we suggest a CSPCR model for evaluating the preparation of an organization to handle or to counter the threats, hazards in cloud computing environment. CSPCR discusses rules and regulations which are considered as pre-requisites in migrating or shifting to cloud computing services.
ICT Trends Article March 2016: Contrasts in DemandGarry Roberton
A quick glance at this month’s Seek ICT job advert figures (Fig.1) indicates that the usual upward trend for this time of the year is currently tracking below the same period for 2015. And in the NZ Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) jobs online monthly report for February 2016, the all vacancies index fell by 0.5 percent with IT decreasing by 0.2 percent. Over the year to February, job vacancies increased in all of the industry groups, up 4.7 percent, while IT vacancies fell by 7.0 per cent. This slight trough in the current ICT job adverts market needs to be viewed in a global context, which reveals a robustly growing ICT industry where demand for skills continues to outstrip supply.
ICT Trends Article August 2014: The Gender QuotientGarry Roberton
Finding ways to encourage girls and women to participate in one of the fastest growing industries, both here in NZ and abroad is challenging governments and ICT industries to create initiatives and programmes that will help address the gender imbalance.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

ICT Trends – Cloud Computing
Anything/Everything-as-a-Service (XaaS)
Anything-as-a-service,orXaaS,referstothe growingdiversityof servicesavailable over the Internet
viacloudcomputingas opposedtobeingprovidedlocally, or on premises. The terms "software as a
service" (SaaS), infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), desktop as a
service (DaaS), backend as a service (BaaS), and information technology management as a service
(ITMaaS) are classified in the cloud computing nomenclature. The potential to reduce IT support
costs throughthe outsourcing of hardware and software maintenance has seen leading enterprise
software companies incorporate SaaS into their overall strategies.
Cloud Provisioning
Cloud provisioning is user account provisioning in a cloud environment whereby the user's
authorization and settings are configured for services and applications located remotely and
deliveredoverthe Internet. The speedof provisioning, the flexible capacity to respond to increased
demand, and the more standard architecture operating in the largest public clouds (Amazon Web
Services, Google Compute Engine and Microsoft's Azure) has encouraged companies to build out
private cloudoperations.Gartnerpredicts thatalmost half of large enterprises will be engaged in a
combined public/private cloud operation often described as "hybrid" cloud computing, by 2017.
Xero is a prime example of one of New Zealand’s best known SaaS companies. It provides cloud-
based accounting software accessible directly from the internet cloud through a standard browser
for small andmedium-sizedbusinesses.Xeroalsopromotes the integration of a wide range of third
party cloud-based software for managing all aspects of business including CRM, inventory
management, and invoicing and job systems; e.g. Quotient (a Xero award winner).
