ICT job advert trends in NZ for August 2016; a brief overview. Includes the Gartner Hype Cycle (2015) and references to global ICT skills shortage trends.
The document summarizes ICT trends in New Zealand for July 2016. It reports that Trademe IT job adverts increased 3.8% for the month and 46% for the year-to-date. Seek ICT job adverts increased slightly under 2% for the month with no significant change from July 2015, and increased 51% for the year-to-date. The document also notes that Canterbury saw an 11% decrease in Seek ICT job adverts from the previous month.
The document summarizes ICT job market trends in New Zealand. It finds that Trademe IT job adverts increased 10.2% in June and 40.8% year-to-date. Seek ICT job adverts increased 5.3% in June but decreased 5% from June 2015, though increased 48.6% year-to-date. Demand is highest for jobs in Java, C, C++, Python and C# according to Seek data. There is a large shortage of computer science graduates to fill over 500,000 open computing jobs across many sectors.
ICT Trends Article March 2016: Contrasts in DemandGarry Roberton
1. Demand for ICT jobs in New Zealand has seen a slight downturn in early 2016, decreasing 7% year-on-year according to Seek job listings, while Australia has experienced 10% growth.
2. The skills shortage in Australia has led to international workers filling the majority of new ICT roles, with 23,000 added in the past year, as few as 3,000 were filled domestically.
3. Gender diversity in the technology sector remains an issue globally, with women making up only about 19% of software developers and engineers according to a survey of 84 companies. Initiatives in various countries aim to increase the number of women in technical fields.
ICT Trends Article - Big Data - October 2015Garry Roberton
October has seen a slight drop of 3 per cent in the number of IT jobs advertised on Trademe while Seek ICT job adverts have increased marginally for the second month in a row, up 2 per cent. Auckland rose 7 per cent this month after a four month decline, down by 16 per cent from a May peak.
Big data is big news. The NZ government has tasked a new think tank, the Data Futures Partnership, with looking at how huge pools of data could be linked together and shared by private and public sectors. With IBM predicting that 4.4 million IT jobs will be created globally to support big data by 2015 the potential for future demand for IT specialist roles in big data is enormous.
Currently in NZ the roles of data analytics, software engineers and project managers dominate the Seek ICT big data job adverts. Given the rising demand for skilled ICT employees, especially in the role of data analytics, it will require a significant effort by all concerned; government, tertiary institutes, and industry, to address this anticipated demand and to ensure the success of big data projects.
ICT Trends Article October 2014 - Tomorrow's InnovatorsGarry Roberton
The continuing demand for qualified and/or experienced coders is evidenced here in NZ by the number of online job vacancies posted throughout the year. The Seek ICT job website features comparatively high numbers of adverts for programmers, software developers, and testers.
ICT Trends Article August 2014: The Gender QuotientGarry Roberton
Finding ways to encourage girls and women to participate in one of the fastest growing industries, both here in NZ and abroad is challenging governments and ICT industries to create initiatives and programmes that will help address the gender imbalance.
ICT Trends Article July 2014: Cloud ComputingGarry Roberton
This document discusses trends in cloud computing and the ICT job market. It provides statistics on the growth of cloud-related jobs in New Zealand from 2012 to 2014 based on job listings. Specifically, it notes that cloud developer jobs have increased over 450% in under two years. The document also shares insights on ICT job trends and skills demand in various countries like Australia, Ireland, South Africa and the United States.
ICT Trends Article June 2014: Fresh DevelopmentsGarry Roberton
The document discusses recent developments in programming and trends in programming languages. Researchers are working to make programming more intuitive and simplify the teaching of computer science. Popular languages currently include C, Java, and C++, while Apple's new language Swift is growing. ICT job postings increased in June after a previous drop, with Wellington seeing the largest rise over the past year. Efforts to improve programming tools and languages may help address skills shortages by appealing to more students and broadening participation in computer science.
Over the past year the median salary in the NZ IT sector has seen a healthy rise in contrast with the wider economy. In January 2014 Absolute IT recorded the first notable increase in the national base median salary, now sitting at $80,000, since 2011.
The document summarizes ICT trends over the past year. It finds that careers in ICT are in high demand globally and in New Zealand, with the ICT industry contributing $19.3 billion annually to New Zealand's economy. Roles such as business analysts, cloud specialists, and mobile app developers are among the most in-demand. While ICT job postings have declined slightly in recent months, the overall outlook remains positive with continued skills shortages expected.
Global demand for ICT skills remains high, with Europe expecting a shortage of 900,000 ICT jobs by 2015. The gap between supply and demand of workers with ICT skills also appears to be deteriorating worldwide. In New Zealand, occupations like ICT project managers, developers, and programmers remain on the long-term skills shortage list, indicating an ongoing shortage. While the number of ICT job advertisements has decreased slightly recently, the overall trend this year shows an increase in demand. Programming languages like C, Java, PHP and C# continue to be in high demand across New Zealand regions.
The document discusses concerns about a growing skills gap in ICT fields internationally. Many countries are seeing declining enrollments in STEM programs. In response, governments and industries are pursuing strategies like updating school curriculums, promoting STEM careers to students, and partnering with academia and each other to try to reverse these trends. The document provides examples of these efforts and debates around the ICT skills gap in countries like the US, Australia, the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and others.
The document discusses trends in youth unemployment and the ICT job market in New Zealand. It finds that while overall unemployment has decreased, youth unemployment remains high, especially in Auckland. Demand for ICT jobs is growing, with online job postings for ICT roles up 60% since January. However, there remains a mismatch between unemployed youth and the skills required for open ICT roles. Efforts are needed from industry, education and government to help train and engage unemployed youth to address both issues.
International enrolments in New Zealand tertiary education have declined 7% over the past year, costing the industry an estimated $2.5 billion annually. International student numbers have fallen at the University of Waikato, for example, from 1670 in 2010 to an anticipated 1470 in 2012. The high value of the New Zealand dollar, the rise of Asian universities, and changes to policies in countries like Canada, Australia and the US have been blamed for the decline in international students choosing New Zealand. While data on 2012 enrolments is not yet available, figures from 2005-2011 show a decline in both international diploma and degree enrolments from their peak numbers. ICT job advertisements have increased by 30%

How to Make a Field Mandatory in Odoo 17Celine George
In Odoo, making a field required can be done through both Python code and XML views. When you set the required attribute to True in Python code, it makes the field required across all views where it's used. Conversely, when you set the required attribute in XML views, it makes the field required only in the context of that particular view.

The Three Largest Fields in Science Lose Ground
President Obama & industry groups call on colleges to graduate 10,000 more engineers
a year and 100,000 new teachers with majors in STEM — science, technology,
engineering and math
Dr. Goldberg, who retired last year as an engineering professor at the University of

High-tech Sector Beats the Bank
[ ][ ]
The Technology Investment Network Report covers three sub-sectors;
ICT
Biotechnology
High-tech manufacturing
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) revenues grew 13%
High-tech sector revenue passes $7 billion for the first time
Third biggest exporter with 4% growth to over $5b
…..current NZ ICT workforce inadequate for the tasks that lie ahead
……we’re not training sufficient specialists to meet the ICT needs……..
……ICT careers not seen as desirable or ‘sexy’ lessening demand for courses in
these disciplines…… (David Stone, TCF CEO
21. Conclusion
Education:
Lower participation rates in ICT education, at 12% for diplomas and 7%
for degrees, provide strong incentives for encouraging young Māori to
qualify for jobs in one of the highest paid professions in NZ
Building Māori participation in the industry is vital, given the projected
demographics of falling secondary school numbers, an aging population
and an insatiable demand by the ICT industry for suitably qualified and
skilled employees
Jobs:
IT experienced the strongest growth at 12.5%, by Industry and
Occupation Group, in September 2011, according to the DoL Skilled
Vacancies Index (SVI)
High-tech sector revenue passes $7 billion for the first time and is now
the third biggest exporter with 4% growth to over $5 billion
