The document also notes that Canterbury saw an 11% decrease in Seek ICT job adverts from the previous month.
ICT Trends Article March 2016: Contrasts in DemandGarry Roberton
1. Demand for ICT jobs in New Zealand has seen a slight downturn in early 2016, decreasing 7% year-on-year according to Seek job listings, while Australia has experienced 10% growth.
2. The skills shortage in Australia has led to international workers filling the majority of new ICT roles, with 23,000 added in the past year, as few as 3,000 were filled domestically.
3. Gender diversity in the technology sector remains an issue globally, with women making up only about 19% of software developers and engineers according to a survey of 84 companies. Initiatives in various countries aim to increase the number of women in technical fields.
ICT Trends Article October 2014 - Tomorrow's InnovatorsGarry Roberton
The continuing demand for qualified and/or experienced coders is evidenced here in NZ by the number of online job vacancies posted throughout the year. The Seek ICT job website features comparatively high numbers of adverts for programmers, software developers, and testers.
ICT Trends Article August 2014: The Gender QuotientGarry Roberton
Finding ways to encourage girls and women to participate in one of the fastest growing industries, both here in NZ and abroad is challenging governments and ICT industries to create initiatives and programmes that will help address the gender imbalance.
ICT Trends Article July 2014: Cloud ComputingGarry Roberton
This document discusses trends in cloud computing and the ICT job market. It provides statistics on the growth of cloud-related jobs in New Zealand from 2012 to 2014 based on job listings. Specifically, it notes that cloud developer jobs have increased over 450% in under two years. The document also shares insights on ICT job trends and skills demand in various countries like Australia, Ireland, South Africa and the United States.
ICT Trends Article June 2014: Fresh DevelopmentsGarry Roberton
The document discusses recent developments in programming and trends in programming languages. Researchers are working to make programming more intuitive and simplify the teaching of computer science. Popular languages currently include C, Java, and C++, while Apple's new language Swift is growing. ICT job postings increased in June after a previous drop, with Wellington seeing the largest rise over the past year. Efforts to improve programming tools and languages may help address skills shortages by appealing to more students and broadening participation in computer science.
Over the past year the median salary in the NZ IT sector has seen a healthy rise in contrast with the wider economy. In January 2014 Absolute IT recorded the first notable increase in the national base median salary, now sitting at $80,000, since 2011.
Global demand for ICT skills remains high, with Europe expecting a shortage of 900,000 ICT jobs by 2015. The gap between supply and demand of workers with ICT skills also appears to be deteriorating worldwide. In New Zealand, occupations like ICT project managers, developers, and programmers remain on the long-term skills shortage list, indicating an ongoing shortage. While the number of ICT job advertisements has decreased slightly recently, the overall trend this year shows an increase in demand. Programming languages like C, Java, PHP and C# continue to be in high demand across New Zealand regions.
A Visual Guide to 1 Samuel | A Tale of Two HeartsSteve Thomason
These slides walk through the story of 1 Samuel. Samuel is the last judge of Israel. The people reject God and want a king. Saul is anointed as the first king, but he is not a good king. David, the shepherd boy is anointed and Saul is envious of him. David shows honor while Saul continues to self destruct.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

Apple’s Steve Wozniak’s concerns;
Users are effectively handing control of their data to providers
"With the cloud, you don't own anything. You've already signed it away
through the legalistic terms of service with a cloud provider that
computer users must agree to"
Wozniak’s fears are echoed by Computing's research findings including;
55 per cent of IT decision-makers citing loss of control as a key
concern
For 38 per cent of IT decision-makers, vendor lock-in was one of their
biggest cloud security concerns
This follows several public cloud outages affecting the likes of Microsoft
Azure, Amazon Web Services and Salesforce.com (Refer

17. Cloud Computing
Cloud computing: What does it really mean for IT jobs?
Spend on cloud services is still only a fraction of the global IT spend
Gartner predicts that the market for cloud compute services will grow 48.7 per cent in 2012
to $5bn, up from $3.4 billion in 2011
By 2020 the majority of organisations will rely on the cloud for more than half of their IT
services
Manual management of IT infrastructure will increasingly be automated;
Includes tasks like monitoring an app’s storage demands and purchasing and installing new
storage for it
Cloud computing app already programmed to allow the application to access additional
storage as needed
Traditional infrastructure management roles will become all but defunct, allowing IT systems
to be run with fewer people
New roles being created, such as;
Using individuals’ technical skills to add value to the business
Real-time big data analytics
Provision of scalable cloud services to always connected mobile computers

- U.S.A. IT job market in hiring mode:
analysis of U.S. hiring report for July showed a net gain of 18,200 jobs,
which represented the largest monthly IT employment increase since 2008
A analysis of IT labour trends for the same period showed a more
modest increase of 4,800 new IT jobs. Apparently U.S. Labour analysts differ in detail
about labour growth, due to the use of different Labour Dept. job categories, but
generally agree on the broad employment trends; i.e. a consistent uptick in IT hiring as
illustrated in the graph below;
