WHAT IS COMMUNICATION ?
Communication is simply the act of
transferring information from one
place to another.

The different categories of
communication include:
• Spoken or Verbal Communication:
Face-to-face, telephone, radio or television and other media.
• Non-Verbal Communication:
Body language, gestures, how we dress or act - even our scent.
• Written Communication:
Letters, e-mails, books, magazines, the Internet or via other media.
• Visualizations:
Graphs and charts, maps, logos and other visualizations can
communicate messages

Use of Communication in Learning - Teaching
process
• When communication is effective, both the student
and the teacher benefit.
• Communication makes -
* Learning easier
* Helps students achieve goals
* Increases opportunities for expanded learning
* Strengthens the connection between student and
teacher
* Creates an overall positive experience

What is ICT ?
• Information and Communication Technology
(ICT) is an extended term for Information
Technology (IT) which stresses the role of
unified communications and the integration of
telecommunications (telephone lines and
wireless signals), computers as well as
necessary enterprise software, middleware,
storage, and audio-visual ..

Educational ICT tools can be divided into
3 categories: Input source, Output source
and Others.

which teachers can achieve faster and more
seamless communication with their
students.
• It can also increase the level of
communication between students and create
another venue for learning

Education Strategies for WhatsApp ….
Here are some basic strategies that educators can
utilize to take advantage of the core abilities of
WhatsApp
1. Use the Group Chats feature to create
learning and study groups
2. Create audio lessons that can be sent directly
to students
3. Stay in contact with students outside the
classroom

4.Send out problems or assignments to students even when they are
not in class
5. Stay in contact with parents
6. Send videos to students
7. Send graphics such as pictures or charts directly to students
8. Send report cards directly to the parents’ phones
9. Facilitate real-time communication between students and
teachers.
10. Facilitate real-time communication between teachers and
parents.
11. Teachers can also maintain communication with students .

Some Reasons Why Educators Should Use
WhatsApp in the Classroom and Beyond …
• It allows free unlimited messaging
• It can be used directly over the Internet via
WhatsApp Web.
• WhatsApp can be used on Wi-Fi without a data
plan.
• Unlike some messaging solutions, WhatsApp
can be used to send videos, audio messages,
and pictures.

• WhatsApp is a cross platform solution.
• WhatsApp can be used to reach students via
the technology they are most familiar with
their phones
• WhatsApp can be used to reach students and
parents that do not utilize other communication
methods, such as landline telephones and
email
• WhatsApp is very cost effective

• Facebook can provide a platform for
learning and allow students to collaborate
and communicate with each other.
• It a compelling platform to encourage
language development, interpersonal
communication, group collaboration, and
of course, ICT skills improvement.

1. Language Development
Facebook requires students to express themselves and
communicate in a written format. While it might not
be proper writing, its at least writing something. And
before we stifle learners with spelling and grammar
rules we should excite them with the possibilities that
proper written communication can bestow.
2. Interpersonal Communication
What is Facebook but a forum for interpersonal
communication – a key skill for personal development
and future employment. We should encourage
interpersonal skills in every format possible, from
written digital formats like Facebook, to in-person
skills in other environments.

3. Group Collaboration
By engaging with “friends”, Facebook users are honing
the ways in which they can collaborate with others in
groups. Schools should harness this to develop group
collaboration skills and even project based learning
activities that span subjects and grade levels.
4. ICT Skills
With the draw of Facebook to encourage them, students
learn ICT skills without the need for boring step-by-step
instruction. They gain skills through peer learning as
well, feeding back into interpersonal communication and
group collaboration. Or put it another way, with
Facebook there is no need for introduction to computers
course – the students will teach themselves.

• It is really easy to integrate.
• It can be used to create an eLearning
community.
• It generates and promotes online discussion.
• It is ideal for mobile learning.
• It allows for micro learning.
• It encourages the development of note-taking
skills.
• It enhances comprehension of complex

Google Classroom is Google's venture into the virtual
classroom. The big selling point of Google Classroom is
that it's free to use. Schools that use the G Suite for
Education (that is also free) can automatically integrate
Google Classroom into their system. Each student will get
their own email, cloud storage, and more. In addition,
teachers will be able to assign work to students, receive
work from students, communicate with students and
parents, and more. It's one of the must-try teacher apps.
Especially if your school system already uses G Suite for
Education.
