Definition of Professional Certification
 Certification: noun…. 1 : to attest authoritatively: as a : confirm b : to
present in formal communication c : to attest as being true or as
represented or as meeting a standard … for an Individual
 IT Certification is viewed as recognition of technical (and sales) competence; is
a mark of professionalism
 Mastery Skill exams
► IBM’s Low stakes exams, based exclusively on questions lifted form one or more specified
courses. No experience with the subject is assumed or validated.
 Examples of Certifications
► Certified standards for professionals in medicine, education, architecture, law, engineering,
and accounting have long been established and recognized.
► IT Certifications have been around for 20 years, beginning with Novell’s CNE program
 Solution Specialty is used by IBM to identify, at a Firm level, a collection of skills
present at that firm. e.g., Cloud Computing, Power, system x, Storage, etc.
