Congo History
A brief history of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) consists of civil war and corruption.
In 1960 they achieved Independence, which was followed up by a civil war and a temporary
fragmentation of the country. In 1965 Mobutu Sese Seko seized power. Then in 1997 rebels ousted
Mobutu and Laurent Kabila becomes president. From 1997 until 2003 there was another civil war,
pulling in several surrounding countries (Africas first world war). From 2003 to 2016 conflict
persisted in the east, where there are still armed groups. In 2006 the first free election in four
decades took place. Joseph Kabila won the run off vote. In 2015 at least 30 were killed in protests
against proposed changes to the electoral law (AFP). The law was designed to... Show more content

Recently released displacement figures bring the total number of internally displaced people
(IDPs) to 3.9 million (Neuzd). The provinces and regions with the largest numbers of IDPs
include North Kivu with more than a million, Greater Kasai with 762,000, Tanganyika with
584,000 and South Kivu with 545,000 (UNHCR). The UN Refugee Agency has warned that
more displacement is probable in these regions. The World Food Programme and the UN Food
and Agriculture Organization estimate that 7.7 million people are food insecure (Staff). Farmers
in Kasai have missed two consecutive planting seasons because of the violence, which broke out
last August with the killing of a regional tribal leader who had defied the government of President
Kabila. The violence adds to an already unstable situation in the DRC. The region now accounts for
more than 40% of the DRC s food insecure population (Staff).
The country is also in the midst of a cholera outbreak affecting 20 of its 26 provinces (Gayer).
Outbreaks and epidemics are more likely in unsanitary conditions, low income countries, and
displaced populations are especially at risk. The country has been in conflict for the majority of 20
years, but evidence shows that the situation for the most vulnerable people has deteriorated severely
in recent years and is on track to worsen. This population is under immunized either due to conflict
and/or geographical remoteness. Risks are compounded

Comparing The Raven And Incident In A Rose Garden
Death is something that at some point will come to each of us and has been explored in many
forms of literature. The Raven and Incident in a Rose Garden are two poems that explore
common beliefs and misconceptions about death. Though both poems differ in setting, tone, and
mood there are surprising similarities in the literary tools they use and in the messages they
attempt to convey. The setting and mood establish the tone and feel of a poem. In The Raven we
are launched into a bleak and dreary winters night where a depressed narrator pines for his dead
girlfriend. In Incident in a Rose Garden we are cast into a garden on a bright summers day where
the frightened gardener seeks to flee deathto be with his living family. It is hard to come up with
two more different settings. Consider the bleak and dreary winter night versus the walk in the
sunny summer flower garden. There are also two completely different moods, one glum and
morose and the other excited and frantic. Symbolism is a literary tool that is commonly used to
convey ideas. Both poems use symbolism throughout their text. Incident in a Rose Garden uses a
man picking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the garden, Death explains how he became a friend to the father of the estate owner. Most
people fear the uncertainty and unknown things about death. As the poem progresses we can see
a change from fear to understanding that brings about a peace with death. In The Raven there is a
scene where the raven is perched on the bust of Pallas, which represents wisdom. My thought of
this is to recall just what it is that birds do when they are perched on statues. This imagery makes
me think that sometimes we need to disregard conventional wisdom and seek our own
understanding. Both poems in their own ways are urging us to open our minds and to find ways to
expand our

The Transformation Of Separate States Into One Empire Essay
As our main focus is the transformation of disparate states into a single empire, we will discuss
the key points in the rise and fall of each empire before examining which common points helped
them consolidate their power and which mistakes resulted in their downfall. Both dynasties were
relatively short lived, and a theory regarding the unification and maintenance of an empire is
relevant to both. The Qin worked tirelessly to strengthen the state as a whole, by recruiting
advisors, strategists, and diplomats from other territories and developing their military capabilities.
Furthermore, they strengthened the power of their ruler with Legalist measures (which they
applied ruthlessly in war as well), which resulted in a law abiding population. Healthy agricultural
production and a large tax base helped bring about a stable society, as well as significant funding
and supplies for the king s military campaigns. Building a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Qin Shi Huang was perhaps too heavy handed in his approach to maintaining power he abolished
noble houses, divided up country, and sent his own officials to administrate each prefecture. He
forced well known, wealthy families to move closer to the capital so he could keep watch over
them, which of course alienated him from a very powerful, influential group of people. His ban on
the possession of private arms made him less popular amongst commoners and wealthy families as
well. Finally, he suppressed scholars and did not accept criticism of his government, thus isolating
himself from another group of people who could have helped him greatly. In a similar vein, the Sui
instituted a system of government which limited the power of local elites in prefectures, which may
have been needed but created a group that resented the king. Compounded with a strained economy
due to heavy construction, neither the poor nor the wealthy was happy with the government, and
rebels soon took

Heart Of Darkness Literary Analysis
The darkness of destructive selfishness is a common theme throughout twentieth century British
literature (Thomas). A great deal of literary works contain tenants, such as selfishness, which are
supported throughout the stories. These tenants, or themes, can be supported various different ways
depending on the literary techniques used by the author. Numerous times the literary techniques
common in twentieth century British literature were used to develop the commonly used theme of
inherent selfishness. Inherent selfishness simply means that there is a deep rooted greed and is
common in this writing due to the high rates of colonization that were taking place throughout the
world during this time period. Heart of Darkness, by Joseph... Show more content on

Greene illustrates this selfishness through two of the characters, Blackie and T. The Destructors
is a narrative about complete and total destruction which is also the main character ,T s, motive
for destroying Old Misery s house. T. wants nothing more than to dismantle everything he can.
However, there is not much left to destroy in this city that is practically still in ruins following
the Blitz on London. The only thing that remains is one house, so T. and the gang decide to tear
it down. They do not think about how it will affect anyone but themselves. T. states, while in the
process of tearing Old Misery s house down, Of course I don t hate him ... There d be no fun if I
hated him ... All this hate and love ... it s soft, it s hooey. There s only things, Blackie (Greene
4). T. feels as though it does not matter what he destroys because he does not hate or love anyone
or anything. On the other hand, Blackie is not exactly stone hearted, but the only reason he tears
the house down is for fame. In The Destructors , Greene writes, Driven by the pure, simple, and
altruistic ambition of fame for the gang, Blackie came back to where T. stood in the shadow of
Misery s wall (Greene 3). Blackie wants everyone to see that he and his gang were able to
accomplish something that no one else could. He wants others to look up to them and have respect
for them. However, he does not take into account how their actions will affect Old

Naming Alcohols in Chemistry
In chemistry, an alcohol is in the hydroxyl functional group ( OH) is bound to a carbon atom. In
particular, this carbon center should be saturated, having single bonds to three other atoms.
Important alcohols are the simple acyclic alcohols. Of those, ethanol (C2H5OH) is the type of
alcohol found in alcoholic beverages, and in common speech the word alcoholrefers specifically to
ethanol. When it comes to alcohol reactions the functional group of the alcohols is the hydroxyl
group OH. Unlike the alkyl halides, this group has two reactive covalent bonds, the C O bond and
the O H bond. The electronegativity of oxygen is greater than carbon and hydrogen. The covalent
bonds of this functional group are polarized so that oxygen is electron... Show more content on

In the monohydric alcohol group there is Methanol (wood alcohol), ethanol (alcohol), isopropyl
alcohol (rubbing alcohol), Butyl alcohol (butanol), pentanol (amyl alcohol), and hexadecan 1 ol

there are ethane 1,2 diol (ethylene glycol), propane 1,2 diol (propylene glycol), Propane 1,2,3
triol (glycerol), Butane 1,2,3,4 tetraol (Erythritol, Threitol), Pentane 1,2,3,4,5 pentol (xylitol),
Hexane 1,2,3,4,5,6 hexol (Mannitol, Sorbitol), Heptane 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 heptol (volemitol).
Another group of alcohols would be the unsaturated aliphatic alcohols. In this group would be
Prop 2 ene 1 ol (allyl alcohol), 3, 7 Dimethylocta 2, 6 dien 1 ol (geraniol), and Prop 2 in 1 ol
(Propargyl alcohol). The last group of the alcohols would be alicyclic alcohols. In this group
there is Cyclohexane 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 hexol (inositol) and 2 (2 propyl) 5 methyl cyclohexane 1 ol
(menthol) (Britannica). The names above are just a list of some of the alcohols that can be found
within the big range and different types of alcohols. The alcohols above use the same formats as
alkanes to be named. When it comes to alcohols and naming them they will end with the letters ol at
the end of the name, which means that they are alcohols. When it comes to alcohol reactions the

Huck Finn Should Not Be Banned Essay
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is about a boy who sets out on an adventure that leads him
away from social restrictions and out into a world of unexplored places. Within the story it holds
many questionable events. Those events spark doubt in readers minds and they start to shy away
from the book and reject it immediately. I believe that, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, should
not be banned in classrooms due to the book including important topics such as slavery, morality,
and history.
In a blog on Huffington Post, the writer Galanty Miller, wrote about the Philadelphia High School
banning Huckleberry Finn. Saying that it was a decision that made no sense, and adding an
example that showed how it made no sense to ban it. That even if it made students uncomfortable it
is an important piece of literature that went over racism and intolerance. He also wrote about how
nowadays everyone is uncomfortable any content that is considered challenging. That being
challenged isn t necessarily a harmful notion, and includes an example from the movie Dead Poets
Society .

that certain notions are wrong. Although it s easy to see where Hubschman is coming from, but

Norman Rockwell Framed Analysis
Norman Rockwell, a 20th century painter was born in 1894. He depicted many scenes of
American culture through his perspective until his death in 1978. I chose to do my looking
assignment on his oil and graphite on canvas and wood Framed . I traveled to Roanoke to see
this fine piece of art in the Tubman Art museum. When I first looked at this piece I was very
drawn to the texture. By the looks of the picture I took, you cannot really tell that this piece is
textured. This piece depicts a picture of a man who seems to be a museum worker holding a
frame and essentially framing himself in it. In this piece you also see other pieces of art hanging
on the wall around him giving him a wide variety of very expressive looks. You see in this painting
that Rockwell used a picture inside of a picture to tell the story of the museum worker.... Show more

If you look at the paintings in the background of this picture you see that they are very
expression based. Overall the figures of the museum worker is naturalistic to me. He seems to
have a very naturalistic body frame and expression. He is in kind of a contorted contraposto
stance with relaxed shoulders and varying his weight instead of just being very rigid and stiff.
The paintings in the background are different kinds of pieces. You see three different frames of
artwork and then a sculpture all of the paintings on the wall are looking at the museum worker
and faced towards him except the sculpture. This makes them have a more naturalistic feel as if
they are alive by just watching every move he is making. To me that makes him the focal point of
his whole piece. The sculpture in this piece is faced away from the museum worker in very fluid
movement as if the museum worker could be following this sculpture if she were actually

Significance Of Silence In Obasan
Writers often employ recurring events to show significance. In Joy Kogawa s, Obasan, a novel
about the Japanese persecution during World War 2, silence is used repeatedly to show
protection. The silence of events in the book serves as a portrayal of love and protection from
whatever it may be that is kept a secret. The silence in the novelshapes Naomi s life in that it leads
her to question the silence and suppress it.
First, a significant event takes place in Naomi s life in which she portrays silence. At the simple
age of 4 years old, Naomi is repeatedly raped by Old Man Gower. The next door neighbor, Old
Man Gower, begins to undress me. I do not resist. As an innocent child, Naomi keeps silent about
these events because she wants to protect her relationship with her mother; furthermore, Naomi
states, If I tell my mother about Mr. Gower, the alarm will send a tremor through our bodies and I
will be torn from her. In an attempt to keep the love and shelter her relationship, Naomi remains
quiet about these horrid incidents. At the young age of 4, Naomi learns to believe that silence will
guarantee no problems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Evaluation Of A Research On Formative Feedback
3.Reviews/Commentaries
Shute,V. (2008). Focus on formative feedback. Review of Educational Research, 78(1), 153 189.
Shute conducts an extensive literature review of the research on formative feedback because
despite extensive investigation, the author proposes, is still misunderstood due to conflicting
findings and inconsistent pattern results. The focus of this review is that feedback must be
delivered correctly to be effective. Therefore, Shute offers a twofold proposal: to understand the
features, functions, and interactions of feedback in relation to learning and to use the findings to
create guidelines for generating effective formative feedback.
The focus of this study is primarily on performing tasks and the identified issues are several.
Correct delivery of feedback is defined and guidelines are proposed since most research on this
subject concludes that feedback can enhance learning considerably if delivered correctly. The
interaction of task and student characteristics is investigated to address the major gaps in
understanding that still exist, inclusively, instructional context in the efficiency of feedback.
The author defines formative feedback (FF) as information intended to change a student s thinking
or behavior to improve learning. It ought to be specific, helpful, timely, and not judgmental. Types
of FF are: confirmation of a correct answer, clarification of the accurate response, clues, and work
examples. Previous research by Swam (1983) found that

Devolution In The UK
Devolution allocates central powers and levels of governance within a state to share decision
making. In the United Kingdom changes in the government structure had an impact in planning
policy and their function; from the devolving creation of the Welsh Assembly and Scottish
parliament due to the unification of England, Wales, and Scotland. The election of New Labour in
1997 facilitated devolution and it created a pressure to establish distinctive and more culturally
aligned policies. Economic globalization and the growing wish to increase economical competition
have driven regions and urban areas to improve their status, requiring the planning system to
reorientate their role, calling the national power into question.

However, we can see the differences in the policy styles and the way public services are managed

authorities are aware of the needs of each of their own regions, able to create better solutions. The
Scottish parliament let to an improvement in spatial planning policy and practice, providing a more

it has made little difference (Allmendinger, 2002); meaning that the support of devolution remains
high. However, is difficult to judge the effect of devolution on public policies. Scottish planning

The Catholic Views Of The Roman Catholic Church
The Roman Catholic Church has consistently condemned abortion the direct and purposeful taking
of the life of the unborn child. In principle, Catholic Christians believe that all life is sacred from
conception until natural death, and the taking of innocent human life, whether born or unborn, is
morally wrong. The Church teaches, Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves
the creative action of Godand it remains for ever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is
its sole end. God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can under any
circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being ( Donum
vitae, 5).
The respect for the sacredness of life in the womb originates in Christianity s Jewish roots. The
ancient Jewish world was much different from the surrounding cultures of Palestine where
infanticide, infant sacrifice and abortion were not uncommon, and in some cases prevalent. For
the Jewish people of those times and orthodox Jews to this day, all human life has as its author
the one God whose creative power produces the child in the mother s womb and brings it step by
step to full life. The Old Testament revelation, which the Church inherited and accepted, gives
clear evidence that life in the womb was considered as sacred. Moses proclaimed, When you
hearken to the voice of the Lord, your God, all these blessings will come upon you and overwhelm
you: May you be blessed in the city,

The Theory X And Theory Essay
As an important philosophy in the management, the management theory has a direct impact on the
organisation s development. At the same time, it was suggested that when superiors do not
supervise subordinates, subordinates will complain about everything and started to become lazy,
they even spoke ill of each other and caused trouble (Blaug, 1999). Based on the research, this essay
argues that a good manager should have the basic knowledge of human psychology, and even learn
about the needs of subordinates to help them work enthusiastically without strict management. This
essay first analyses the strengths and weaknesses of the theory X, which related to Blaug s
statement. Subsequently, it compares theory X and theory Y to give an overview of both. Finally,
this essay states which theory that managers should choose for the current regulatory environment.
Both Douglas McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y have their strengths and its weaknesses. One of
the advantages that this theory is quite understandable. On the other hand, it can help managers
focus on two different types of individuals: individual work and personal hate willing to work.
Because of the weaknesses and shortcomings, the theory can hardly be used right now.
According to McGregor, theory X assumes people dislike work, lack ambition, are irresponsible
and prefer to be led, while theory Y assumes people are willing to work and accept responsibility,
and are self directed and creative. Based on some research, theory

Henri Lefebvre (1991) asserted that the production of space concerns the performances of
power through (as cited in Aitken Dixon, 2006, p. 332). Space is power. Large spaces between
the rich and the poor in the buying area underline the performance of space. The representation
of space is much more crowded for the poor as shown in the Piazza Vittorio. Gonzaga (2017)
would call this the cinematographic unconscious of slum voyeurism (p. 102). Representational
spaces are filled up with the power of the government and the rich. The scene of the linen being
brought up in the warehouse of linen characterizes society s gross inequality, suggesting that the
rich steals from the poor the most. Depicting the poor as they are illustrates the spaces denied to
them. If they are concentrated in any space, it is the space of neglect and impoverishment. Filmic
landscapes in The Bicycle Thief reveal the reel and the real, the widespread social conditions and
their social meanings for the working class in desperate conditions. De Sica uses mise en scene to
reveal poverty and mobility to underline the lack of movement of the poor. In the end, they steal

denying them better economic opportunities. The ending is pessimistic but realistic: the poor have

Punishment In The Monkey s Paw
In Louis N. Parker s play rendition of The Monkey s Paw, Mr. White s good friend Sergeant Major
Morris pays the White family a visit and introduces them to a cursed artifact called the Monkey s
Paw. He informs the family about how the cursed artifact grants wishes in an undesirable
method.Despite that Mr. White continues on to wishfor 200 pounds, in hopes of paying off their
rent. Nonetheless, the 200 pounds does arrive but comes in the form of compensation from
Herbert s death by machinery equipment at his workplace. However, the question still left
unanswered by the short story is, who s to blame for the sorrow and despair that took over the
White s? Is it the one who introduced the cursed paw, Sergeant Major Morris? The victim himself,...

White to rescue the paw from burning in the fire, but choosing to make a wish upon the paw was
the most irrational move that he could have made. Before he makes his first wish, it was noticed
that Mr. White was reluctant in using the paw. I believe he behaved in this manner because he
was reflecting upon the mentioned dangers and consequences that was conveyed to him by S.M
Morris and deciding whether it was worth the risk. He then proceeds to say, I wonder whether
we hadn t better chuck it in the fire?...(Holds up the paw, as if half ashamed) I wish for two
hundred pounds (Jacobs 126). The first half of the quote displays Mr. White doubting his choice
in saving the paw. I believe he behaved in this matter because it was a natural instinct for him to
feel this way given all the warnings and advice he had received against it. In the second half of
the quote, we witness Mr. White s greed cloud his common sense as he chooses to shamefully wish
for two hundred pounds despite knowing that there may be consequences in addition to his wish. I
believe that if Mr. White had thought through his actions better and did not wish upon the cursed
paw, the tragic death of his son would have never occurred. After all, it was this wish that tampered
with the White family s fate thus resulting in Herbert s

Help of The Isle of Man and England to an Athletic Performer
The Isle of Man is closely linked with England in development and competitions of sport. To get to
the top of a sport is never easy so I am going to explain how the Isle of Man and England help a
performer in athletics to get from grass roots to elite.
For a performer to get to the top they will need help from the governing body of their sport. The
main governing bodies and agencies are responsible for helping athletics to develop are:
* Sport England The governing body of sport in England. They help to raise standards within sports
and help improve facilities.

At current there is one major programme being run nationally through out primary schools all
over the country. The programme is called the Tops programme and is co ordinated by the Youth
Sport Trust, a governing body working for the development of sport for children between the age
of 3 and 14. The programmes are delivered as a package including practical training to teachers and
resources and are designed to support the delivery of the national curriculum.
On the Island at present the MSR have provided all primary schools with only two of these
programmes. The Top Play and the Top Sport. These two programmes, yet very helpful in the
development of the children, don t give a spread of equality. As on the Island there are some
disabled athletes who have represented the Island in athletics but have had to learn these events at a
later date, as there was nothing for them during primary school. Luckily in athletics though gender
does not mater. The athletes may only compete against others of the same gender but their events
happen on the same days, there isn t a men s Olympics and a women s Olympics. This means that
athletes can train together equally.

A Summary On The Sunset Manicure
Kleancolor Metallics sunset manicure.
This is the sister manicure to my Kleancolor purple/ blue peacock. These metallic polishes,
simply named Metallic Orange and Metallic Yellow , apply as smoothly and easily as the blue
and purple. The consistency was the same, thick, but not too thick. These polishes are 2 coaters,
but they go on reasonably opaque with the first coat. Meaning if you re short on time, you could get
away with a few thick swipes. Here I used the same gradient technique, applying one coat of the
yellow polish and gradually blending yellow to orange. I sponged on a bit of Sally Hansen s
Copper Penny to the tips to give the orange polish a bit of sparkle. You know I love to sparkle!
Gradient tutorial: For this tutorial I used colors that obviously don t go together so that you can see
how to make a seamless blend.
[use purple and green, one thick and dark, the other thinner and light.]
First step: After you apply your base coat, your first color coat should ordinarily be the lightest of
the polishes you ve chosen for your gradient. I say usually because there are plenty of times when
you might want to use a darker base color and sponge a lighter color over it. Since this is a basic
tutorial, however, I ll keep it simple.
[pic of nails with base color]
While you re waiting for that coat of color to dry, I suggest applying a latex type coating or a
homemade glue mix to the skin around your nails. You could use tape also.

East Timor Compare Contrast Essay
Introduction: Civil wars commonly leave countries socially and politically devastated. As a way
to rebuild many countries rely on transitional justice and a new tribunal system referred to as
hybrid courts. We see this first in the case of East Timor and shortly followed by Sierra Leone.
Each case experienced their own successes and shortcomings that led to a difference in overall
perception of the court. This leads to the question, in what ways did the the challenges differ
between the hybrid courts of Sierra Leone and East Timor, and how did this affect the perceived
success of either case? Through an analysis of these differences, an understanding of how general
perceptions have been constructed, one may gain a more worldwide view on transitional... Show

The UN would now be responsible for assisting the East Timor towards its independence. This
created the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET). The UNTAET
would mandated to exercise all legislative and executive authority . This included, the
administration of justice, security, maintenance of law and order, establishment of an effective
administration, support of capacity building for self government and assistance in the establishment
of conditions for sustainable development. As the violence continues and it becomes more and
more clear that a strictly international approach will not work that you get the emergence of the
first hybrid court. Domestically as we have seen, does not seem to end the violence, and the attempt
at international intervention did not seem to end the violence. The only option left is to join forces
and to work from both the domestic and international level. This produces the very first hybrid court
which uses international resources in conjunction with the resources and needs of a localized area.

Survival In The Heart Of The Sea Essay
In The Heart Of The Sea, by Nathaniel Philbrick, is a riveting account of the sinking of a

This historical nonfiction takes place in the early nineteenth century, first starting off on the island

The crash and survival of the Essex and its crew is one of the most famous in its era. The theme
of this book is the will to survive, and the crew of the Essex express this well while they are at sea,

prices were unrealistically high. Most of those firms were operating under loses and no tangible
assets to warrant those prices. Analysts justified those prices and recommended buy ratings but later

It may pay off to undertake R amp;D investments in a project with negative value if the early
investments provide sufficient information about the future benefits of a project. The value of an
internet firm is largely dependent on (1) firm s ability to adapt to enormous uncertainty, (2)
competitive landscape paced with technology innovations,(3) changing market conditions and (4)
costs of searching for a profitable business model. Valuations can be extremely high if the initial
growth rates are high and if there is enough volatility in this growth over time, The author s
argument is that high valuation of internet stocks is attributed to the investment opportunities
approach. This approach suggests that the presence of growth opportunities to invest new capital
results to projects with a promising rate of rate return higher than normal. The investment
opportunities approach states that value of a growth firm is equal to the PV of cash flows from
assets in place and the present value of growth opportunity (Vj = V1 + V2). It suggests that
investors should pay a premium for earnings of a growth firms relative to mature firms due to the
presence of profitability multiplier in growth firms. The author proposes a modified investment
opportunities approach which incorporates advertising and R amp;D into the equation when
valuing growth firms; V = E/k m + RD+A/k (m 1). This is

Bipolar Type I And Type II
Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder that is often characterized by the general public as a mood
swing disorder. In reality bipolar disorder is more severe than just a mood swings, especially in
children. Bipolar disorder comes with two forms, type I and type II. Both forms of bipolar disorder
are severe and both types should receive treatment. For the purpose of this research bipolar type
I will be the focus. More specifically this research will be focusing on bipolar type I in children and
youth. Bipolar type I is described by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM 5) as
characterized by multiple episodes of maniathat last at least a week or by episodes of mania that

diagnosis of bipolar disorder a child must still fall under than DSM 5 criteria. Bipolar type I is an
issue in a child s life because it can become hindering and detrimental to development and to their
daily routine. Although this diagnosis can cause major deficits in a child s life there are many
treatments that are readily available to these children and their families.
Etiology. It is still unclear scientifically why bipolar disorder is caused but there are genetic and
brain structure implications for bipolar disorder (Adelman et al., 2012; Nolen Hoeksema, 2014).
Pediatric bipolar type I is found to have connections with decreased gray matter in the cortex areas
as well as increase volume in the basal ganglia (Adelman et al., 2012). Grey matter helps the brain
processes due to their storage of cell bodies and axons and the basal ganglia is connected with
cognitive function, daily routine and habitual functioning and voluntary motor control (Nolen
Hoeksema, 2014; Leibenluft, 2012).
Genetics may also play a large role in the presence of bipolar disorder in children. Genetics are
often more prevalent with direct relatives, parents or siblings (Nolen Hoeksema, 2014). In

Paramount Health and Beauty wants to launch a new razor into the market currently referred to as
Clean Edge. The project team recommends that the company should position the product as a
distinct mainstream product, dubbing it Clean Edge by Paramount in order to produce growth in
sales from new product innovation. The importance of placing the product in a mainstream position
is to successfully launch an innovative product creating more market share for Paramount and for
Clean Edge to become the most sought out razor in the industry. Failing to take this route and

Clean Edge by Paramount gives customers a clear perception of the advantages of the product
without being concerned about other product categories.
Critique of Rejected Options
There are several reasons why the project team should reject the first option in positioning Clean
Edge in a niche. The first reason concerns the pricing strategy. Placing the product in a niche
position would make the razor more expensive in the retail sense. Catering to the more involved
groomers places the product at a suggested retail price at $12.99. Placing the product at a higher
price in the niche position could only lead Clean Edge Razor to a limited market. Rosenberg
suggested placing the product in the niche position for a year or two; however, this could lead to
prevention in attracting a wider customer base for the product during that time frame.
Another reason Paramount should not place in the niche position is their significantly low marketing
budget compared to their competitors. In just media advertising alone, Radiance spent $16 million
on Naiv. For Clean Edge, the cost for advertising for the niche position would only be $7 million.
Because Radiance is spending more than twice as much on their advertising compared to what
Paramount would spend in the niche position, Radiance would gain an advantage in covering more
ground to promote its product.
As far as product naming is concerned, Paramount

Disadvantages Of Narcissism
As they were in middle class, which was higher class than what my siblings and I were at, I
wondered if this would apply to them. With my experience, I believe it would since they were of
higher class than us and those narcissists would be boastful about accomplishments and
possessions. Here, some readers may be saying that social class does not necessarily cause one
to be narcissistic. I am not saying that not all those of higher class are narcissists, but rather that
it can put them for a higher risk of becoming narcissistic. Other factors, such as social media and
parenting, could also contribute to one becoming narcissistic. Going along with the factor of
parenting, the question of how that family would behave with each other had come up. I have
already seen how they could treat others outside of their family, whether it be to put on a
different face before their true colors leek out after getting to know them. From what I have
seen and heard, they tend to have a golden child and a sort of scapegoat. In the article, The

America s Road to Independence
America s Road to Independence:
In the year 1783 the Treaty of Paris was signed, granting America their freedom from Great Britain.
There were many reasons why the colonists wanted their freedom and separation from their mother
country of England. Great Britain laid down many laws and Acts which were the main reasons
leading up to the revolutionary war, otherwise known as America s War for Independence. For
eleven years even before the actual revolution started, Great Britain bullied the thirteen original
colonies with several harsh acts and proclamations. The Proclamation of 1763 came first. It
prohibited settlements west of the Appalachian Mountains and trading in that area without a license.

A year later the Stamp Act was repealed because of the violent acts that the Sons of Liberty
committed, a violent liberal group. In 1767 the Townshend Acts were passed. There were duties
placed on colonial imports of lead, glass, paint, paper, and tea. It resulted in a Boycott of British
goods. It also legalized the Writs of Assistance, which were search warrants (Encarta 99). In
1770 Crispus Attuckus and followers gathered at a Boston customs house. Several colonists
threw snowballs at soldiers, which ended in the deaths of five patriots. This was called the
Boston Massacre. Innocent people were being killed which turned over a new leaf in the rise to
revolution. In 1770 all of the Townshend acts were repealed except for the tax on tea. This lead
to the Tea Act of 1773, which stated that only the East India Company could import and sell tea.
When the very first shiploads of tea arrived in the thirteen colonies, the Sons of Liberty were
ready to act. In South Carolina they locked the tea in warehouses, in New York and Philadelphia
they forced ships to turn around without unloading their tea, and in Maryland they lit ships on fire
that carried tea. The worst was in Boston where the Sons of Liberty boarded all of the ships and
dumped the tea into the harbor. This event was named the Boston Tea Party (King, McRae, Zola

Stereotyping can be proved to be wrong, but with discrimination you can not prove it otherwise
false, if your denied rights.
What are the causes of discrimination?
The causes of discrimination are having a certain preference for different groups of people. In
example, preferring a man over a woman to be a president of a company, even though they are
both qualified the same. Being misinformed also causes discrimination. Often, racism and
prejudice cause discrimination. When an negative attitude is formed over a certain group of
people, mainly the minority group. They face a social challenge, which leads to adding a denial of
certain rights to a person. Although, discrimination is illegal, it happens often. Family type
business, who can hire freely can cause a type of discrimination. They have the choice to hire
family, verses someone who is an outsider.
Often discrimination is from our ancestors. If they had a certain way of living, it is passed on
through generation. Often, we feel like we are better than a certain group, or that a certain group
may owe us something because of our ancestors.
How is discrimination faced by one identity group (race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, sexual
orientation, age, or disability) the same as discrimination faced by another? How are they different?

of Edward the confessor.
The Norman invasion of 1066 was one of the causes for castles to become an important part of
defence. After king Harold s defeat by William the conqueror, William was concerned about how
he would control the country with only a limited number of troops facing a hostile environment. He
did not have enough troops to station them everywhere, so he used a very useful tactic that had

The pathways and ladders that allowed reach to important areas of the castle have been removed
or destroyed; and the enemy are at a disadvantage because they are facing attack from a raised level.
As time progressed, the situation in England changed. The Normans were now in control of
England and there was little resistance from hostile sources, therefore a concentration on the
development of castles occurred.
Less time was needed for castles to be constructed quickly and therefore time could be used to
search for better materials for building. This meant that stone could be used instead of wood,
which was used previously. By 1100, the earth that had held Motte and bailey castles had now
settles, and was capable of sustaining much larger weights. With the change to stone castles, fire
was not a concern as it was when Motte and baileys were in use.
Square keeps were used when the development of stone castles were quite young. They were
often built in the most important places, to show how powerful the Normans were. Square keeps
were good because of the immense thickness of the walls. The walls in square keeps were often up
to 5 metres thick, and 30 metres high. This added to the strength of the castle because the walls
could easily withstand attacks from siege weapons such as magonels and trebuchets.

when you move your hand near or close to the screen.
In addition the LCD computer monitor is in fact soldered. One of the components that is

The experience of breast cancer today is different of any other illness. Pink culture and has shaped
the nature of breast cancer activism along with the experience of breast cancer for the rising

at how corporations have effectively drained and deflected meaningful activism through the pink

of suffering that would typically be associated with a life threatening disease. Finally, the way
breast canceractivism and the experience of the disease have been framed has created a detrimental
survivor discourse, which has done little to actually empower women with breast cancer. These
phenomena, as seen in the film Pink Ribbons, Inc. and beyond, show how pink culture has become
a distraction from meaningful progress by creating a superficial sense of awareness and activism

Effects Of Alcohol On The Body s Organs And Brain Activity
Alcohol is a recreational drug which contains ethanol (Drugfreeworld.org, 2016), a depressant
that prolongs the messages from the brain to the body affecting the way one thinks, feels and
behaves (Alcoholthinkagain.com.au, 2014). Excessive alcohol consumption can have many
negative effects on the body s organs and brain activity. Major health problems such as
cardiovascular disease, cirrhosis, depression, gout and pancreatitis can occur as a result of
consuming large quantities of alcohol and have the potential to be fatal (Freeman, 2016). Binge
Drinking is the act of consuming an excessive amount of alcoholic beverages within a short
period of time with intentions to become heavily intoxicated (Dictionary.com,2014). Males in
there 40 s and late 20 s are most likely to exceed the recommended level of alcohol consumption
and young women aged 18 24 are foreseen to excessively drink alcoholic beverages
(Nhmrc.gov.au, 2015). Adolescents aged 13 17 also engage in excessive drinking although
evoked due to observing others such as guardians, siblings and peers as well as the existence of
peer pressure to consume alcohol and appear socially acceptable. Binge Drinking will have short
term effects on the health of an individual leading to memory loss, vomiting and headaches and
long term effects such as anxiety, a variety of cancers and infertility (Knowyourlimits.info, 2013).
In Australia 15 individuals die from these alcohol related diseases and illnesses each day (Santow,
2014).

Head Injury Essay
Head injuries can impact a person s life in just a few seconds, and can turn your whole life around
in a way no one ever thought it could. The diseases funded by head injuries all lead to the worst
thing anyone can imagine, death. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a disease resulting in the
nervous system of your body leaving you with no motion and movement. ALS reduces functions in
your body, such as the muscle that they supply. Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), is
another disease leading to the head but is quite different. It slowly kills your braincells, which is
caused by a build up of an abnormal protein called tau. These two diseases are caused by
concussions, leading to the head. Concussions is a head injury that alternates... Show more content

Analysis Of John KeatsTo Autumn
Journal To Autumn
Observation
In his ode To Autumn, John Keats praises fall as the yielder of abundance and fruitfulness.
Throughout the poem, Keats uses strong imagery to create a beautiful picture of fall. For
example, in stanza twenty five, Keats writes ...barred clouds bloom the soft dying day, and touch
the stubble plains with rosy hue... (Keats 738). Through these words, Keats uses the word bloom,
an action associated with flowers, to describe a fall sunset. This effect makes the readers imagine
a sky breaking forth lively in full bright, rosy colors like flowers. Through this description, the
author leads his readers to admire in awe one of the beauties of fall. Also, Keats describes the
activities of autumn through unique personification. As an illustration, Keats describes fall as
conspiring with [the sun] how to load and bless with fruit the vines that round the that eaves run; as
sitting careless on a granary floor , and as [by a cider press, with patient look, [watching] the last
oozing hours by hours (Keats 738). Through these words, Keats shows the productive and fruitful
activities completed in the harvest autumn season.
Interpretation
Through his poem, John Keats wants to awaken the readers to an appreciation of fall. Towards the
end of the poem, he writes Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they? Think not of them,
thou hast thy music too (Keats 738). Although Fall may seem as the end to the life of spring and
summer, Keats wants people to realize that fall enriches their lives with the ripe fruits, rewarding
activities, and new sights and sounds (Keats 738). Through his description of the beauty,
abundance, and rich harvest that people experience during the fall season, Keats encourages people
to accept the blessings of fall with thankfulness.
Integration
Deuteronomy 16:13 15 states Celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days after you have
gathered the produce of your threshing floor and your winepress. Be joyful at your Feast... for
the Lord your God will bless you in all your harvest and in all the work of your hands, and your joy
will be complete. Also, in 1 Timothy 4:4 5, Paul writes For everything God created is good, and
nothing is to be rejected...it

The Ethical Principles Of Ethics
Ethics is a crucial principle in human lives. It is necessary here to clarify exactly what is meant by
Ethics. The term ethics may be defined as a set of principles and concepts that guide people to
determine what behavior helps or harms sentient creatures (Paul Elder, 2006). Generally, in all
nations and cultures, parents always teach their children the importance of truthfulness, forgiveness
and honesty and all of that consider as parts of morality. Thus, in individual level, morality is
significant, therefore, in organizational level morality and integrity should be at the same level of
importance.
It is generally believed that ethical policies are highly necessary in every organisation or
association. Research environment is one of the areas, which highly require some moral
regulation and policy especially in some developing countries. In this paper, the terms Research
ethical regulations are used to describe group of principles and policies that aim to regulate each
step of research (Oates, et al., 2010). The safety of all volunteers is one of the major concern in
research ethics (Rawnsley, 2014). This policy does not only aim to ensure that there is no physical
harm to any participant, but also intend to prevent the occurrence of any psychological effects for
volunteers (Rawnsley, 2014). Furthermore, the availability of such policy emboldens and keep the
best ethical research practice (Oates, et al., 2010). In addition to the previous point, this policy

Health Disparities Of Prenatal Care
One important health disparity is the lack of prenatal care amongst women in socially
disadvantaged populations. These predominately include women of minorities, women who have a
low income, and the location these women live in. This health disparity is important to address
because research has shown that women who receive prenatal care are more likely to conceive
babies of a healthy birth weight and have low infantmortality rates than those women who do not
receive this prenatal care ( Putting Women s Health Disparities on the Map, 2009). Therefore,
health disparities amongst women in need of prenatal care have lead to preventable infant
mortalities amongst women in vulnerable populations. Three reasons why this health disparity is
important to address include the following: health disparities in prenatal care lead to lack of
access to prenatal care to women in vulnerable populations, there are increased adverse health
outcomes for both the infant and mother, and there are excess medical expenses that could
otherwise have been prevented. Because prematurity is the leading cause of newborn death in the
United States ( Healthy Mothers and Healthy babies, 2013), finding and developing a solution will
be extremely beneficial and needs to begin with addressing prenatal care.
The first problem that needs to be addressed is simply the lack of access for women in vulnerable
populations to prenatal care. This is a major problem because we see that the rate of women who

Why A Corporation May Consider Convertible Bond Issuance
There are number reasons a corporation may consider convertible bond issuance. The instrument
itself is a bond that may be converted to another type of security at the company that issued the
bond. Converting such an item is all left up to the discretion of the bondholder. The reason for a
company to want to issue such an item of course would always be in the best interest of the
company itself for doing so. Convertible bonds are considered what is known as a hybrid security
where it is considered to be both debt and equity by the issuing company (Saunders Cornett, 2015,
p. 185).
One of the reasons the company would want to issue convertible bond would be is the yield that
they have to pay generally lower than that of a non convertible bond. The reason the rate is lower is
important because it is indeed a hybrid security where gives the bondholder an investment
opportunity in the company in the future, hence making the instrument more attractive to investors
(Badraoui Ouenniche, 2014). Since the instrument is more attractive, a lower yield may be offered
that will still garner and peak invested interest in the product (Saunders Cornett, 2015). Pricing is
usually set so as not in the best interest to convert the bond stock unless the company sees an
increase of the stock price in the range from 15 to 20 percent from the time the bond was issued
(Saunders Cornett, 2015, p. 187).
The most common type of debt covenants that will show up in a contract between a

The Life Of Happiness And The Good Life
In this paper, I will argue that Aristotle is right when he says happiness or eudaimonia is when
the good life is a happy life, where happiness is the end goal. I will do so first by explaining how
Aristotle s eudaimonia theory found in Nicomachean Ethics is the aim of human life, a theory of
happiness that is still relevant today. Secondly I will share the key ingredients in Aristotle s recipe
for happiness and the good life. These include reason and virtues, pleasure and relationships, wealth
and success. Lastly, I will explain why I agree with Aristotle that the life of virtuefits best with the
humanlife. That eudaimonia is the pursuit of happiness, the goal that encompasses the totality of
one s life. To start, Aristotle wrote the Nicomachean Ethics, a collection of ten books. He starts by
asking what is it that humans are aiming at that would provide a good happy life? Aristotle s
argument about the good is also referred to as eudaimonia. The meaning of eudaimonia is
generally translated to happiness . It is the telos, final cause and goal for all living things.
Aristotle refers to happiness as the highest aim of human good and the ultimate end and purpose
of human existence. In this paper, eudaimonia and happiness will be used interchangeably. One
can achieve eudaimonia and happiness by living well and fairing well. To achieve happiness, it is
to live as best a human being can live. It is not something that can be gained or lost in a few hours
like pleasurable

Martin Luther And The Christian Church
Martin Luther was an Augustinian monk who believed the grace of God alone would justify fall
humans. Luther one day translated the Bible into German unknowingly beginning the start of a
radical religious revolution. Luther wanted to reform the Christian church of abuses. He wanted to
return the church to its roots of Christianityand take away moderation. Luther believed in the
reading of scriptures and finding the truth from within them. Robert Kolb believed, Luther was
filled with the dynamism that sprang from his spiritual conviction. (267) He believed Luther
inspired others to have a personal relationship with Godand to inspire hope. Luther is depicted by
many as a friend and a foe. People took his materials and thoughts and made them into ideas that
could be used for their own purposes. Martin Luther has shaped the institutions and life of
Christendom. He influenced his followers as a churchman and a teacher. Lutheran churches came to
think of Luther as a prophetic hero and authority of faith. Some believed he was a servant of God, a
prophet and the eschatological angel. Followers of Luther set about to change the institutions and
ideas that were helping to keep the world together. Three conceptions of Luther s emerged and grew
even beyond his years. First, Martin Luther was seen as a prophet and becoming the primary
authority in the church. Luther made challenges that brought to light the doubts of the old religious
system. Martin Luther and his adherents believed

Lennie Monologue
Running through branches and high standing grass, I sprint as fast as my body will move.
Insure about how much energy my body has left, I keep pacing a constant speed to catch up to
Lennie. As the forest begins to come to an end, there is a lengthy creek that comes to view.
Hesitating, I plunge into the water trying to find my dear friend Lennie. Just as I think there is
no hope on finding him I see a movement out of the corner of my eye. Thinking it was just an
animal, I turn away not even realizing that the animal was Lennie. Lennie, terror stricken and
drizzling, is standing right in front of me. I try to dash toward him, but since my legs are in the
water they don t seem to move quickly. Not even bothered about how slowly my feet are moving
I still leap toward him in excitement. Since we were hugging I didn t even realize that the neighing
and running footsteps of the men s horse were drawing closer to us. Lennie, we have to get outta

There is an obvious demand for petrol, as almost everyone who is able, drives or rides a vehicle
which requires fuel to run. So it could be argued that retail petrol stations don t necessarily set
their own prices, but go off supplier guidelines which base their fuel pricing strategy on demand,
Demand based pricing sets prices according to the level of aggregate or individual customer
demand in the market. (Elliott et al. 2010 p. 250) Elliott et al. also continue to write that both
Caltex Woolworths and Coles Express hold more than 60% of the Australian fuel market share
(2010 p.268) so high demand from their suppliers will enable them to lower their fuel prices and
therefore gain more customers, earning higher profits.
Pricing of other products offered by retail petrol outlets such as bread or milk tend to have the
opportunity to be competitive and more fairly priced than a standard petrol station, the major
grocery companies behind retail petrol outlets like Woolworths and Coles focus on gaining more
ground off one and other, price drops are reflected in store and this also proves more profitable,
because consumers are drawn into purchasing something they wouldn t normally associate with
their petrol.
Promotion
An important aspect in the success of retail petrol outlets is in their promotion, or the way in which
their fuels and other products are portrayed to potential customers. There are many numbers of
ways in which retail petrol

research has shown that counselors who use this method make a conscious use of their time by
engaging the client quickly and keeping the client focused on goals and priorities (Mireau Inch,
2009). There are some drawbacks to BSFC; this method is not a style for beginning counselors
(Mireau Inch, 2009). BSFC relies heavily on the art and intuition of the experienced clinician

George Eliot s Adam Bede offers a realistic and highly detailed look into the everyday life of

based upon people Eliot knew or knew of, which adds to the realism. As she delightedly observes
and describes the intricacies of the natural, ordinary world, Eliot pays attention to human nature,
applying keen psychological insight to characters thoughts, choices, and actions. Eliot seems to

Eliot describes the problem with physical attractiveness, the kind that renders Hetty susceptible to
vanity, self centredness, and ultimately, poor choices. Beautiful, kitten like Hetty is so caught up in
her appearance and in the way she is certain others perceive her that she is barely affected by the
serious and often grave situations others are experiencing. In fact, after discovering that Adam s
father had died, Hetty was thinking a great deal more of the looks Captain Donnithorne had cast at
her than of Adam and his troubles (Eliot 96). It is not that Hetty is deliberately cruel or uncaring,
but admiring glances from a handsome young gentleman, with white hands...and wealth and
grandeur immeasurable...set poor Hetty s heart vibrating, and playing its little foolish tunes over
and over again (Eliot 96). Eliot, though clearly disapproving of Hetty s foolish vanity, nonetheless
encourages her reader to be understanding of the young girl. She directly addresses the reader as
she accounts for Hetty s self centredness:
We must learn to accommodate ourselves to the discovery that some of those commonly fashioned
instruments called human souls have only a very limited range of music, and will not vibrate in the
least under a touch that fills others with tremulous rapture or quivering agony. (Eliot 96)
Hetty is lacking in the very area Eliot

  • 2. Congo History A brief history of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) consists of civil war and corruption. In 1960 they achieved Independence, which was followed up by a civil war and a temporary fragmentation of the country. In 1965 Mobutu Sese Seko seized power. Then in 1997 rebels ousted Mobutu and Laurent Kabila becomes president. From 1997 until 2003 there was another civil war, pulling in several surrounding countries (Africas first world war). From 2003 to 2016 conflict persisted in the east, where there are still armed groups. In 2006 the first free election in four decades took place. Joseph Kabila won the run off vote. In 2015 at least 30 were killed in protests against proposed changes to the electoral law (AFP). The law was designed to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recently released displacement figures bring the total number of internally displaced people (IDPs) to 3.9 million (Neuzd). The provinces and regions with the largest numbers of IDPs include North Kivu with more than a million, Greater Kasai with 762,000, Tanganyika with 584,000 and South Kivu with 545,000 (UNHCR). The UN Refugee Agency has warned that more displacement is probable in these regions. The World Food Programme and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization estimate that 7.7 million people are food insecure (Staff). Farmers in Kasai have missed two consecutive planting seasons because of the violence, which broke out last August with the killing of a regional tribal leader who had defied the government of President Kabila. The violence adds to an already unstable situation in the DRC. The region now accounts for more than 40% of the DRC s food insecure population (Staff). The country is also in the midst of a cholera outbreak affecting 20 of its 26 provinces (Gayer). Outbreaks and epidemics are more likely in unsanitary conditions, low income countries, and displaced populations are especially at risk. The country has been in conflict for the majority of 20 years, but evidence shows that the situation for the most vulnerable people has deteriorated severely in recent years and is on track to worsen. This population is under immunized either due to conflict and/or geographical remoteness. Risks are compounded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing The Raven And Incident In A Rose Garden Death is something that at some point will come to each of us and has been explored in many forms of literature. The Raven and Incident in a Rose Garden are two poems that explore common beliefs and misconceptions about death. Though both poems differ in setting, tone, and mood there are surprising similarities in the literary tools they use and in the messages they attempt to convey. The setting and mood establish the tone and feel of a poem. In The Raven we are launched into a bleak and dreary winters night where a depressed narrator pines for his dead girlfriend. In Incident in a Rose Garden we are cast into a garden on a bright summers day where the frightened gardener seeks to flee deathto be with his living family. It is hard to come up with two more different settings. Consider the bleak and dreary winter night versus the walk in the sunny summer flower garden. There are also two completely different moods, one glum and morose and the other excited and frantic. Symbolism is a literary tool that is commonly used to convey ideas. Both poems use symbolism throughout their text. Incident in a Rose Garden uses a man picking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the garden, Death explains how he became a friend to the father of the estate owner. Most people fear the uncertainty and unknown things about death. As the poem progresses we can see a change from fear to understanding that brings about a peace with death. In The Raven there is a scene where the raven is perched on the bust of Pallas, which represents wisdom. My thought of this is to recall just what it is that birds do when they are perched on statues. This imagery makes me think that sometimes we need to disregard conventional wisdom and seek our own understanding. Both poems in their own ways are urging us to open our minds and to find ways to expand our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Transformation Of Separate States Into One Empire Essay As our main focus is the transformation of disparate states into a single empire, we will discuss the key points in the rise and fall of each empire before examining which common points helped them consolidate their power and which mistakes resulted in their downfall. Both dynasties were relatively short lived, and a theory regarding the unification and maintenance of an empire is relevant to both. The Qin worked tirelessly to strengthen the state as a whole, by recruiting advisors, strategists, and diplomats from other territories and developing their military capabilities. Furthermore, they strengthened the power of their ruler with Legalist measures (which they applied ruthlessly in war as well), which resulted in a law abiding population. Healthy agricultural production and a large tax base helped bring about a stable society, as well as significant funding and supplies for the king s military campaigns. Building a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Qin Shi Huang was perhaps too heavy handed in his approach to maintaining power he abolished noble houses, divided up country, and sent his own officials to administrate each prefecture. He forced well known, wealthy families to move closer to the capital so he could keep watch over them, which of course alienated him from a very powerful, influential group of people. His ban on the possession of private arms made him less popular amongst commoners and wealthy families as well. Finally, he suppressed scholars and did not accept criticism of his government, thus isolating himself from another group of people who could have helped him greatly. In a similar vein, the Sui instituted a system of government which limited the power of local elites in prefectures, which may have been needed but created a group that resented the king. Compounded with a strained economy due to heavy construction, neither the poor nor the wealthy was happy with the government, and rebels soon took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Heart Of Darkness Literary Analysis The darkness of destructive selfishness is a common theme throughout twentieth century British literature (Thomas). A great deal of literary works contain tenants, such as selfishness, which are supported throughout the stories. These tenants, or themes, can be supported various different ways depending on the literary techniques used by the author. Numerous times the literary techniques common in twentieth century British literature were used to develop the commonly used theme of inherent selfishness. Inherent selfishness simply means that there is a deep rooted greed and is common in this writing due to the high rates of colonization that were taking place throughout the world during this time period. Heart of Darkness, by Joseph... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greene illustrates this selfishness through two of the characters, Blackie and T. The Destructors is a narrative about complete and total destruction which is also the main character ,T s, motive for destroying Old Misery s house. T. wants nothing more than to dismantle everything he can. However, there is not much left to destroy in this city that is practically still in ruins following the Blitz on London. The only thing that remains is one house, so T. and the gang decide to tear it down. They do not think about how it will affect anyone but themselves. T. states, while in the process of tearing Old Misery s house down, Of course I don t hate him ... There d be no fun if I hated him ... All this hate and love ... it s soft, it s hooey. There s only things, Blackie (Greene 4). T. feels as though it does not matter what he destroys because he does not hate or love anyone or anything. On the other hand, Blackie is not exactly stone hearted, but the only reason he tears the house down is for fame. In The Destructors , Greene writes, Driven by the pure, simple, and altruistic ambition of fame for the gang, Blackie came back to where T. stood in the shadow of Misery s wall (Greene 3). Blackie wants everyone to see that he and his gang were able to accomplish something that no one else could. He wants others to look up to them and have respect for them. • 6. Naming Alcohols in Chemistry In chemistry, an alcohol is in the hydroxyl functional group ( OH) is bound to a carbon atom. In particular, this carbon center should be saturated, having single bonds to three other atoms. Important alcohols are the simple acyclic alcohols. Of those, ethanol (C2H5OH) is the type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages, and in common speech the word alcoholrefers specifically to ethanol. When it comes to alcohol reactions the functional group of the alcohols is the hydroxyl group OH. Unlike the alkyl halides, this group has two reactive covalent bonds, the C O bond and the O H bond. • 7. Huck Finn Should Not Be Banned Essay The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is about a boy who sets out on an adventure that leads him away from social restrictions and out into a world of unexplored places. Within the story it holds many questionable events. Those events spark doubt in readers minds and they start to shy away from the book and reject it immediately. I believe that, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, should not be banned in classrooms due to the book including important topics such as slavery, morality, and history. In a blog on Huffington Post, the writer Galanty Miller, wrote about the Philadelphia High School banning Huckleberry Finn. Saying that it was a decision that made no sense, and adding an example that showed how it made no sense to ban it. That even if it made students uncomfortable it is an important piece of literature that went over racism and intolerance. I chose to do my looking assignment on his oil and graphite on canvas and wood Framed . I traveled to Roanoke to see this fine piece of art in the Tubman Art museum. When I first looked at this piece I was very drawn to the texture. By the looks of the picture I took, you cannot really tell that this piece is textured. This piece depicts a picture of a man who seems to be a museum worker holding a frame and essentially framing himself in it. In this piece you also see other pieces of art hanging on the wall around him giving him a wide variety of very expressive looks. The paintings in the background are different kinds of pieces. You see three different frames of artwork and then a sculpture all of the paintings on the wall are looking at the museum worker and faced towards him except the sculpture. This makes them have a more naturalistic feel as if they are alive by just watching every move he is making. To me that makes him the focal point of his whole piece. • 9. Significance Of Silence In Obasan Writers often employ recurring events to show significance. In Joy Kogawa s, Obasan, a novel about the Japanese persecution during World War 2, silence is used repeatedly to show protection. The silence of events in the book serves as a portrayal of love and protection from whatever it may be that is kept a secret. The silence in the novelshapes Naomi s life in that it leads her to question the silence and suppress it. First, a significant event takes place in Naomi s life in which she portrays silence. At the simple age of 4 years old, Naomi is repeatedly raped by Old Man Gower. The next door neighbor, Old Man Gower, begins to undress me. I do not resist. As an innocent child, Naomi keeps silent about these events because she wants to protect her relationship with her mother; furthermore, Naomi states, If I tell my mother about Mr. Gower, the alarm will send a tremor through our bodies and I will be torn from her. In an attempt to keep the love and shelter her relationship, Naomi remains quiet about these horrid incidents. • 10. Evaluation Of A Research On Formative Feedback 3.Reviews/Commentaries Shute,V. (2008). Focus on formative feedback. Review of Educational Research, 78(1), 153 189. Shute conducts an extensive literature review of the research on formative feedback because despite extensive investigation, the author proposes, is still misunderstood due to conflicting findings and inconsistent pattern results. The focus of this review is that feedback must be delivered correctly to be effective. Therefore, Shute offers a twofold proposal: to understand the features, functions, and interactions of feedback in relation to learning and to use the findings to create guidelines for generating effective formative feedback. The focus of this study is primarily on performing tasks and the identified issues are several. Correct delivery of feedback is defined and guidelines are proposed since most research on this subject concludes that feedback can enhance learning considerably if delivered correctly. The interaction of task and student characteristics is investigated to address the major gaps in understanding that still exist, inclusively, instructional context in the efficiency of feedback. The author defines formative feedback (FF) as information intended to change a student s thinking or behavior to improve learning. It ought to be specific, helpful, timely, and not judgmental. Types of FF are: confirmation of a correct answer, clarification of the accurate response, clues, and work examples. Previous research by Swam (1983) found that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The election of New Labour in 1997 facilitated devolution and it created a pressure to establish distinctive and more culturally aligned policies. Economic globalization and the growing wish to increase economical competition have driven regions and urban areas to improve their status, requiring the planning system to reorientate their role, calling the national power into question. • 15. The Catholic Views Of The Roman Catholic Church The Roman Catholic Church has consistently condemned abortion the direct and purposeful taking of the life of the unborn child. In principle, Catholic Christians believe that all life is sacred from conception until natural death, and the taking of innocent human life, whether born or unborn, is morally wrong. The Church teaches, Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of Godand it remains for ever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its sole end. God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being ( Donum vitae, 5). The respect for the sacredness of life in the womb originates in Christianity s Jewish roots. The ancient Jewish world was much different from the surrounding cultures of Palestine where infanticide, infant sacrifice and abortion were not uncommon, and in some cases prevalent. For the Jewish people of those times and orthodox Jews to this day, all human life has as its author the one God whose creative power produces the child in the mother s womb and brings it step by step to full life. The Old Testament revelation, which the Church inherited and accepted, gives clear evidence that life in the womb was considered as sacred. At the same time, it was suggested that when superiors do not supervise subordinates, subordinates will complain about everything and started to become lazy, they even spoke ill of each other and caused trouble (Blaug, 1999). Based on the research, this essay argues that a good manager should have the basic knowledge of human psychology, and even learn about the needs of subordinates to help them work enthusiastically without strict management. This essay first analyses the strengths and weaknesses of the theory X, which related to Blaug s statement. Subsequently, it compares theory X and theory Y to give an overview of both. Finally, this essay states which theory that managers should choose for the current regulatory environment. Both Douglas McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y have their strengths and its weaknesses. One of the advantages that this theory is quite understandable. On the other hand, it can help managers focus on two different types of individuals: individual work and personal hate willing to work. Because of the weaknesses and shortcomings, the theory can hardly be used right now. According to McGregor, theory X assumes people dislike work, lack ambition, are irresponsible and prefer to be led, while theory Y assumes people are willing to work and accept responsibility, and are self directed and creative. Space is power. Large spaces between the rich and the poor in the buying area underline the performance of space. The representation of space is much more crowded for the poor as shown in the Piazza Vittorio. Gonzaga (2017) would call this the cinematographic unconscious of slum voyeurism (p. 102). Representational spaces are filled up with the power of the government and the rich. The scene of the linen being brought up in the warehouse of linen characterizes society s gross inequality, suggesting that the rich steals from the poor the most. Depicting the poor as they are illustrates the spaces denied to them. If they are concentrated in any space, it is the space of neglect and impoverishment. These metallic polishes, simply named Metallic Orange and Metallic Yellow , apply as smoothly and easily as the blue and purple. The consistency was the same, thick, but not too thick. These polishes are 2 coaters, but they go on reasonably opaque with the first coat. Meaning if you re short on time, you could get away with a few thick swipes. Here I used the same gradient technique, applying one coat of the yellow polish and gradually blending yellow to orange. I sponged on a bit of Sally Hansen s Copper Penny to the tips to give the orange polish a bit of sparkle. You know I love to sparkle! Valuations can be extremely high if the initial growth rates are high and if there is enough volatility in this growth over time, The author s argument is that high valuation of internet stocks is attributed to the investment opportunities approach. This approach suggests that the presence of growth opportunities to invest new capital results to projects with a promising rate of rate return higher than normal. The investment opportunities approach states that value of a growth firm is equal to the PV of cash flows from assets in place and the present value of growth opportunity (Vj = V1 + V2). Romans were replaced by Anglo Saxon foes, and these did leave behind a system of castles however these were for Motte and Bailey castles built in the reign of Edward the confessor. The Norman invasion of 1066 was one of the causes for castles to become an important part of defence. After king Harold s defeat by William the conqueror, William was concerned about how he would control the country with only a limited number of troops facing a hostile environment. As time progressed, the situation in England changed. The Normans were now in control of England and there was little resistance from hostile sources, therefore a concentration on the development of castles occurred. Less time was needed for castles to be constructed quickly and therefore time could be used to search for better materials for building. This meant that stone could be used instead of wood, which was used previously. By 1100, the earth that had held Motte and bailey castles had now settles, and was capable of sustaining much larger weights. With the change to stone castles, fire was not a concern as it was when Motte and baileys were in use. Square keeps were used when the development of stone castles were quite young. They were often built in the most important places, to show how powerful the Normans were. Square keeps were good because of the immense thickness of the walls. The walls in square keeps were often up to 5 metres thick, and 30 metres high. This added to the strength of the castle because the walls could easily withstand attacks from siege weapons such as magonels and trebuchets. Text Box: Because of the ... First, looking at how corporations have effectively drained and deflected meaningful activism through the pink washing and commodification of breast cancershows how easy it is to overlook the real issues with nice packaging and presentation. Building on this culture, there are reinforced gendered expectations regarding how women are expected to deal with the illness; disallowing expressions of suffering that would typically be associated with a life threatening disease. Finally, the way breast canceractivism and the experience of the disease have been framed has created a detrimental survivor discourse, which has done little to actually empower women with breast cancer. • 44. Analysis Of John KeatsTo Autumn Journal To Autumn Observation In his ode To Autumn, John Keats praises fall as the yielder of abundance and fruitfulness. Throughout the poem, Keats uses strong imagery to create a beautiful picture of fall. For example, in stanza twenty five, Keats writes ...barred clouds bloom the soft dying day, and touch the stubble plains with rosy hue... (Keats 738). Through these words, Keats uses the word bloom, an action associated with flowers, to describe a fall sunset. This effect makes the readers imagine a sky breaking forth lively in full bright, rosy colors like flowers. Through this description, the author leads his readers to admire in awe one of the beauties of fall. Also, Keats describes the activities of autumn through unique personification. As an illustration, Keats describes fall as conspiring with [the sun] how to load and bless with fruit the vines that round the that eaves run; as sitting careless on a granary floor , and as [by a cider press, with patient look, [watching] the last oozing hours by hours (Keats 738). Through these words, Keats shows the productive and fruitful activities completed in the harvest autumn season. Interpretation Through his poem, John Keats wants to awaken the readers to an appreciation of fall. Towards the end of the poem, he writes Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they? Think not of them, thou hast thy music too (Keats 738). Although Fall may seem as the end to the life of spring and summer, Keats wants people to realize that fall enriches their lives with the ripe fruits, rewarding activities, and new sights and sounds (Keats 738). Through his description of the beauty, abundance, and rich harvest that people experience during the fall season, Keats encourages people to accept the blessings of fall with thankfulness. Integration Deuteronomy 16:13 15 states Celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days after you have gathered the produce of your threshing floor and your winepress. Be joyful at your Feast... for the Lord your God will bless you in all your harvest and in all the work of your hands, and your joy will be complete. • 45. The Ethical Principles Of Ethics Ethics is a crucial principle in human lives. It is necessary here to clarify exactly what is meant by Ethics. The term ethics may be defined as a set of principles and concepts that guide people to determine what behavior helps or harms sentient creatures (Paul Elder, 2006). Generally, in all nations and cultures, parents always teach their children the importance of truthfulness, forgiveness and honesty and all of that consider as parts of morality. Thus, in individual level, morality is significant, therefore, in organizational level morality and integrity should be at the same level of importance. It is generally believed that ethical policies are highly necessary in every organisation or association. Research environment is one of the areas, which highly require some moral regulation and policy especially in some developing countries. In this paper, the terms Research ethical regulations are used to describe group of principles and policies that aim to regulate each step of research (Oates, et al., 2010). The safety of all volunteers is one of the major concern in research ethics (Rawnsley, 2014). This policy does not only aim to ensure that there is no physical harm to any participant, but also intend to prevent the occurrence of any psychological effects for volunteers (Rawnsley, 2014). Furthermore, the availability of such policy emboldens and keep the best ethical research practice (Oates, et al., 2010). In addition to the previous point, this policy ... • 46. Health Disparities Of Prenatal Care One important health disparity is the lack of prenatal care amongst women in socially disadvantaged populations. These predominately include women of minorities, women who have a low income, and the location these women live in. This health disparity is important to address because research has shown that women who receive prenatal care are more likely to conceive babies of a healthy birth weight and have low infantmortality rates than those women who do not receive this prenatal care ( Putting Women s Health Disparities on the Map, 2009). Therefore, health disparities amongst women in need of prenatal care have lead to preventable infant mortalities amongst women in vulnerable populations. Three reasons why this health disparity is important to address include the following: health disparities in prenatal care lead to lack of access to prenatal care to women in vulnerable populations, there are increased adverse health outcomes for both the infant and mother, and there are excess medical expenses that could otherwise have been prevented. Because prematurity is the leading cause of newborn death in the United States ( Healthy Mothers and Healthy babies, 2013), finding and developing a solution will be extremely beneficial and needs to begin with addressing prenatal care. The first problem that needs to be addressed is simply the lack of access for women in vulnerable populations to prenatal care. This is a major problem because we see that the rate of women who ... • 47. Why A Corporation May Consider Convertible Bond Issuance There are number reasons a corporation may consider convertible bond issuance. The instrument itself is a bond that may be converted to another type of security at the company that issued the bond. Converting such an item is all left up to the discretion of the bondholder. The reason for a company to want to issue such an item of course would always be in the best interest of the company itself for doing so. Convertible bonds are considered what is known as a hybrid security where it is considered to be both debt and equity by the issuing company (Saunders Cornett, 2015, p. 185). One of the reasons the company would want to issue convertible bond would be is the yield that they have to pay generally lower than that of a non convertible bond. The reason the rate is lower is important because it is indeed a hybrid security where gives the bondholder an investment opportunity in the company in the future, hence making the instrument more attractive to investors (Badraoui Ouenniche, 2014). Since the instrument is more attractive, a lower yield may be offered that will still garner and peak invested interest in the product (Saunders Cornett, 2015). Pricing is usually set so as not in the best interest to convert the bond stock unless the company sees an increase of the stock price in the range from 15 to 20 percent from the time the bond was issued (Saunders Cornett, 2015, p. 187). • 48. The Life Of Happiness And The Good Life In this paper, I will argue that Aristotle is right when he says happiness or eudaimonia is when the good life is a happy life, where happiness is the end goal. I will do so first by explaining how Aristotle s eudaimonia theory found in Nicomachean Ethics is the aim of human life, a theory of happiness that is still relevant today. Secondly I will share the key ingredients in Aristotle s recipe for happiness and the good life. These include reason and virtues, pleasure and relationships, wealth and success. Lastly, I will explain why I agree with Aristotle that the life of virtuefits best with the humanlife. That eudaimonia is the pursuit of happiness, the goal that encompasses the totality of one s life. To start, Aristotle wrote the Nicomachean Ethics, a collection of ten books. He starts by asking what is it that humans are aiming at that would provide a good happy life? Aristotle s argument about the good is also referred to as eudaimonia. The meaning of eudaimonia is generally translated to happiness . It is the telos, final cause and goal for all living things. Aristotle refers to happiness as the highest aim of human good and the ultimate end and purpose of human existence. In this paper, eudaimonia and happiness will be used interchangeably. One can achieve eudaimonia and happiness by living well and fairing well. To achieve happiness, it is to live as best a human being can live.
