Description of the
activity
1. An useful guide to unuseful places
Photo Raid, workshop and exhibition:
In the computer class the following
challenges were placed to students:
1. Choose an “unusual” place where you both
feel good and would recommend to a tourist
2. Dress up "as if taking a picture"
3. Participate in the photographic raid
trough the town to take the picture at the
chosen location.
4. Create QR codes with information about
that place.
5. The photo/QR Code will be part of an
exhibition

The theater students made de MS PowerPoint
data show and recorded their voices for the
play

Impact
Being together at the walk through the city
and sharing different points of view about it
was a very happy moment of the activity.
Students enjoy as well having a portrait of
themselves by a professional photographer.
Most of them didn´t have ear about QR Codes
and were very excited to show to their
families how to do it/them.
The theater play was also a success and a
very special moment for the students and
their families.
Lessons learned
The goal of the exhibition was not entirely
perceived and the result wasn’t the one that
we expected (most of the ladies chose the
same garden to take the portrait near a
flower..).

A more detailed explanation is needed about
the goals to be achieved by the activity and
some examples must be presented as well.

ABOUT MEDIASCAPES PROJECT
MEDIASCAPES aims at exploring various relationships among types of
space, media, and people, approaching such findings from a media
literacy perspective, by drawing inferences to be used in non-formal
and informal learning of adults, especially and foremost in family
settings. The Partnership intends to address issues related to the
convergence and divergence among ‘classic’ and digital cultural
forms by:
a) exploring a series of social and cultural practices involving
the use of media in the family, as reconfigured by new
cultural forms generated by digital technologies;
b) exploring relationships among space, people, and media in
urban settings, including cases of accommodation or conflict
between physical space and cyberspace;
c) drawing out implications of findings in terms of guidelines
for trainers involved in inter-generational and family
learning, and generating a collection of case studies and
best/good practices, assembled on an online resource center.
The project was held between 1st
. August 2011 and 31th. July 2013,
with the following partners:

I LOVE CELORICO An useful guide to unuseful place: Photo Raid & Workshop & Exhibition Theater Play – Trout´s Legend Location Universidade Sénior Aldeia Global [Celorico da Beira, Portugal] Timing and duration - Photographic Raid: 18 th June2012 | 2:30H - QR CODES factory Workshop: 20 th June 2012 | 2:00H - Exhibition: 30 th June 2012 | 1 day - Theater Play: Trout´s Legend –30 th June 2012 | 00:45 m Trainer(s) Ana Pires, António Santos, Carlos Dias Audience type and number - ICT students of Serpentina’s Senior University (19 students) - Theater students (5 students) Objectives General - Exploring relationships among space, people and media in urban settings - Exploring new ways of inter-generational and family learning using digital technologies - Using digital tools to promote places and cities under a personal and subjective perspective Specific - Making an alternative tourist guide of the town - Look at places in a new perspective - Exchange experiences between the participants - Promote QR Codes - Share the legend of the village trough a theater play
  • 2. 2 Description of the activity 1. An useful guide to unuseful places Photo Raid, workshop and exhibition: In the computer class the following challenges were placed to students: 1. Choose an “unusual” place where you both feel good and would recommend to a tourist 2. Dress up "as if taking a picture" 3. Participate in the photographic raid trough the town to take the picture at the chosen location. 4. Create QR codes with information about that place. 5. The photo/QR Code will be part of an exhibition 2.Theater Play –Trout´s Legend: The theater students made de MS PowerPoint data show and recorded their voices for the play Digital tools - QR STUFF [http://www.qrstuff.com/] - MS PowerPoint - Documentation about the workshop - Tutorials Materials - 9 PC´s/ Internet - 1 Printer - Photographic Paper - 1 Photo machine - Windows audio record - Data Show - Sound system Impact Being together at the walk through the city and sharing different points of view about it was a very happy moment of the activity. Students enjoy as well having a portrait of themselves by a professional photographer. Most of them didn´t have ear about QR Codes and were very excited to show to their families how to do it/them. The theater play was also a success and a very special moment for the students and their families. Lessons learned The goal of the exhibition was not entirely perceived and the result wasn’t the one that we expected (most of the ladies chose the same garden to take the portrait near a flower..).

The Partnership intends to address issues related to the convergence and divergence among ‘classic’ and digital cultural forms by: a) exploring a series of social and cultural practices involving the use of media in the family, as reconfigured by new cultural forms generated by digital technologies; b) exploring relationships among space, people, and media in urban settings, including cases of accommodation or conflict between physical space and cyberspace; c) drawing out implications of findings in terms of guidelines for trainers involved in inter-generational and family learning, and generating a collection of case studies and best/good practices, assembled on an online resource center. The project was held between 1st . August 2011 and 31th.
