about ...Building blocks
The primary aim of this project is to support the development of positive
engagement with urban spaces and citizenship for youngsters. We will
encourage young people to become active members of their community
anddevelopawarenessoftheirurbanspacesandtheirlocalcontextusing
creative, collaborative and imaginative spatial symbolism in their art
expression. The project will also consider the wider perspective of
Europeancitizenshipandcommunityengagementandsharingofmethods
and ideas by young people and the role they play in their one communi-
ties. By offering them framework for self-reflection, we aim to encour-
age and support active and positive engagement with urban space.
The project aims to strengthen involvement and will allow young people
to creatively experiment their art in urban space while allowing them to
identify common spatial values of their community. We will ask our
participants to consider the idea of sustainable community development,
to demonstrate the essential elements of their neighborhood now, and
then to imagine how it could look like in fifty years from now. Partici-
pantswillbeaskedtosharetheirexperiencesofcoworkingandcollabo-
ration in arts, urban sports and cultural activities. The project will also
create a platform for each national group to address these topics at a
locallevel,aswellaswithinaEuropeancontext.Theprojectwillsupport
peer to peer learning and mentoring by creative and cultural profession-
als. Emphasis is placed on town planning idea, awareness of the space in
which they live, their own neighborhood, as part of our common EU.

Today's Zagreb has grown out of two medieval settlements that for
centuriesdevelopedonneighbouringhills.Thefirstwrittenmentionofthe

neighbouring Gradec was proclaimed a free and royal city. Both the
settlements were surrounded by high walls and towers, remains of which
are still preserved.
Zagreb is an old Central European city, the capital city of the Republic of
Croatia. For centuries it has been a focal point of culture and science, and
now of commerce and industry as well. It lies on the intersection of
important routes between the Adriatic coast and Central Europe.

Context and objectives:
Thethreebrownfieldsandpublicopenspaces,wherethewhorkshops happens,are
alternatives fields. These particular places will allow us to be confronted with
these experiences of space appropriation, particularly inspired by their artistic
approach. The video project main objective is to make the youth develop their own
experienceofspacesappropriation.Connectedtothemodelingprojectwhichislead
by leader of croatian team , the video project is based on a sensitive approach and
on interviews. The project wants to get the feeling of how users of this area think
abouttheirownspace(Differentapproachcouldbeinvestigated:artistic,architec-
tural, environmental, and governance) and to show how the youth can have their
own approach of these area.
Team leaders:UK
• Malcolm Ball
• Katy Brown
Context and objectives:
Trough artistic approach, youngsters will discover different places in the city
centre, they will mark the spaces that they “feel”-sensitory mapping. Trough
creativethinkingyoungsterswilldevelopemodels/activitiesthatcouldbeidealfor
Zagreb. Their Creative model will be incorporated and presented in 3d model.
Team leaders:Croatia
• Ivana Golub
• Filip Cicek
Context and objectives:
There are two ways to percept and create urban space: first one is social and
artistic way and second is spatial analysis (arhitecture, urban scheme, green
spaces). When we unite results of bouth approaches then we can start creating
reconstruction and revitalisation of city blocks (threw different activities and
design) - and all from the youngsters point of view in 3d city model/we create
art-green-urban trail.
