Hypermedia applications : • Hypermedia applications are consist of compound objects including multimedia objects • An authoring application may use existing multimedia objects or call upon a media editor to create new objects • Its primary role is to structure multimedia documents or databases records by coordinating the actions of media editors and combining them with existing objects. • The authoring application does not manipulates the media directly

Hypermedia Application Design : • It allows the user to combine different media streams on a timeline • Hypermedia object, it defines the relative starting point for each media stream, allows the user to combine different media streams (the media object without any temporal quality) on a timeline; this allows synchronizing the different subobjects for playback when the hypermedia object is rendered. • In a fully object-oriented and distributed environment, the subobjects can be spread across a number of servers.

Hypermedia Application Design : • A multimedia object locator and browser function allows the user to search for objects using some keys that define the search criteria. • Hypertext and similar technologies allow the user to track down objects using advanced browsing technologies. • The primary goal is ease of use and intuitive functioning of the user interface. • It is important to make the user interface intuitive.
