The United Nations was established after World War II to replace the League of Nations and better maintain international peace and security. It has 192 member countries and headquarters in New York City. The UN aims to solve international problems and promote human rights. It works to make countries aware of human rights and has established treaties to protect different groups. The UN monitors compliance with these treaties and investigates human rights issues around the world.

5. PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS BY U.N
 The first and the most important role which the
United Nations has played is that it has made the
people and the States conscious about the HUMAN
RIGHTS and Fundamental freedoms.

6.  The United Nations has codified the different rights
and freedoms by making treaties for all section of
people such as women, child, migrant, workers,
refugees and stateless persons.

7. Treaty bodies, Special Representatives and
working groups of the commission on Human
Rights have procedure and mechanism to monitor
compliance with conventions and investigate
allegations of human rights abuses.
U.N. Human rights monitors have been sent to
many countries.
Human rights monitors have also been deployed
by the General Assembly as part of peace keeping
operations.

8. The individual complaint procedure is a
monitoring procedure used for the
implementation of human rights. It allows the
individual to bring a complaint of violations
of his/her rights by a particular state before
an independent UN-Committee – but only
after all domestic legal remedies have been
exhausted.

9. The original mandate of the commission on
human rights to examine situations where
massive violations of rights appear to be
taking place has been complemented by a
new function. incidence of certain kinds of
violations.

10. The commission on human rights may ask
the Secretary-General to intervene or send an
expert to examine a human rights situation in
any state with a view to prevent flagrant
violations.

11. The post of High Commissioner for human
rights was created in 1993 with the intention
of strengthening the coordination and impact
of UN Human Rights activities.

12. The center for human rights provides
advisory services to governments seeking to
improve their human rights performance.
