Human Resources Department:
HR Operating Models
What is a Shared Service Model?
 Organisations utilise a shared service model as an efficient way of
organising activities within their HR department.
 HR shared services allow these activities to be available to a number
of people who would provide routine administration of HR functions
to the customer; functions such as Payroll advice.
 This shared services model based on the work of Dave Ulrich led to
organisational benefits which included; reduction of cost and
increased quality of services provided to customers.

“The key to shared services is treating what was once a
corporate service like a whole new business. This is achieved
by duplicating the environment of an independent service
business, including customers, counting costs, and letting in
the competition. Just as market competition improves a firm,
so it will improve your in-house business”
(QUOTE FROM JBS)
