Chemical bonding occurs when atoms combine together to form new substances called compounds. Atoms bond together through chemical bonds, which are forces of attraction that hold atoms together in a compound. When atoms bond, they lose energy and become more stable than when they were free atoms. The properties of the compound formed are different than the individual atoms due to the formation of chemical bonds between the atoms. Bond formation involves a decrease in energy as atoms move closer together, reaching a minimum energy when the bond is formed and the atoms are most stable.

The System of the National Institutes on Agricultural Research of Ibero-America (INIA) was formally established 11 years ago and is now comprised of 19 national agricultural research institutes from Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries. It was originally founded by 12 institutes in 2002 and focuses its activities on research and development projects, capacity building for staff through PhD programs, and institutional strengthening. The INIA coordinates work in four main areas: climate change and agriculture, plant genetic resources, bioenergy, and food security.

On September 11, 2001, two planes flew into the World Trade Center towers in New York City and another two planes crashed into the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania, killing thousands. In 2007, a shooting at Virginia Tech resulted in 32 deaths. In 2003, the DC Sniper killed 10 people in a shooting spree. And in 2013, a gunman killed 12 people and injured 3 others at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington D.C.

It has been presented at eComm, Open Source Bridge, Show and Tell PDX and Research Club under the alias Non-Visual Augmented Reality with SMS and GPS.

CGIAR is a global agricultural research partnership consisting of 15 research centers and nearly 9,000 staff. Over the past decade, CGIAR has increasingly used group facilitation to improve teamwork, decision making, and stakeholder engagement. Drivers for this include a greater development focus, an emphasis on impact, and a desire for better knowledge sharing. CGIAR has provided training in facilitation techniques to over 160 staff since 2005. This has increased the number of facilitated meetings and led to more participatory and productive meetings. Facilitators have found that their most important role is enabling relationships and problem solving, not just specific meeting tasks.

AIMS (Agricultural Information Management Standards)

The SDGs represent challenges in advancing the broad access to information agenda because of the divergent goals and proliferating targets and indicators. At the same time, the broadness of many of the goals presents opportunities for the agenda, particularly in the form of open access and open science, to embed itself at the core, thus allowing concrete actions and policies to be formulated in order to achieve tangible development outcomes. I will focus in particular on Goal 9 (“Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation”) and argue that information and knowledge are essential infrastructure needed to build local research capacity which are in turn the foundation for sustainable development. The growing understanding of the importance of sharing methods and results throughout the research life cycle further demands the need for appropriate infrastructure. Examples of such infrastructure, such as data and publication repositories, already exist at some local level, but they are often fragmented and lack adequate resources. It is therefore important for FAO/IFLA/COAR to continue to advocate for the development of knowledge infrastructure and to ensure that policies are in place to support their long term sustainability.
