• On September 16, 2013, Aaron Alexis, a lone gunman armed initially with a shotgun, fatally
shot twelve people and injured three others in a mass shooting at the headquarters of the
Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) inside the Washington Navy Yard in Southeast
Washington, D.C.[6][7][8] The attack began around 8:20 a.m. EDT in Building 197. Alexis was

Four tragic events from 2001, 2007, 2003, and 2013 are summarized. On September 11, 2001, two planes flew into the World Trade Center towers in New York City and another two planes crashed into the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania, killing thousands. In 2007, a shooting at Virginia Tech resulted in 32 deaths. In 2003, the DC Sniper killed 10 people in a shooting spree. And in 2013, a gunman killed 12 people and injured 3 others at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington D.C.
