Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto was a prominent Finnish architect and designer known for his work in architecture, furniture, textiles, and glassware. Some of his most notable works include the Alvar Aalto House in Helsinki, where he lived and worked; Villa Mairea in Noormarkku, Finland, a villa and rural retreat constructed in 1938-1939; and the Vyborg Library in Vyborg, Russia, designed between 1927-1935 to combine functionality with a distinctive organic style. Aalto is considered one of the most influential architects of modernism in Finland, designing over 500 buildings there that combined simplicity with cultural identity.
