Sony Corporation s Pest Analysis
Sony Corporation s PEST Analysis
Introduction
Sony Corporation is one of the world s largest manufacturers of electronic product. It engaged in
business through electronics, motion pictures, music and financial services. Though it used to be a
leading manufacturer, Sony Corp has now been entangled with low sales rate and financial strain in
many of its product lines (Euromonitor, 2014). This paper demonstrates three events of Sony
Corporation as a case study to analyze how these external factors affect companies decision making,
then discuss how has international business environment changed from these three events and
finally the conclusions are presented.
Sony acquired Columbia Pictures Entertainment, Inc. in 1989
Japanese corporations showed a growing interest in entertainment business in the 1980s. Sony has
been questing to win a place in the entertainment software business for some time. It merged CBS
Records in 1987 for $2 billion (Fabricant, 1989). And in September 1989, Sony Corporation
acquired Columbia Pictures Entertainment, Inc. for the amount of $3.4 billion. The Sony Group
intended to secure software in high quality so that Sony s wealth of hardware products could be
promoted. By acquiring CBS Records and Columbia Pictures, this ultimate strategy has been
fulfilled (Sony history, 2015).

My Original Teaching Philosophy Statement
I honestly would not make any changes to my original teaching philosophy statement because I
believe that after reading through the entire phycology book, the things I read only supported the
things I stated in my philosophy statement. When writing my philosophy statement I had not taken
any previous educationclasses to aid my original teachingphilosophy but I have been working with
kids my entire life and so I have seen first hand what things work with children and what does not.
This does not by any means mean that I know everything and have all the answers to teaching, it
simply means I have had a little bit of a head start with working with kids. You learn my trying
something out, analyzing if it worked, the reflecting on that and changing it. Even before taking
this class and reading that in the text I was already practicing this when I was the Sunday school
teacher for 2 3 year olds at my dads church. Another thing that gave me ideas on my teaching
philosophy statement was by being in a class and have an amazing teacher, or a not so amazing
teacher. Even without the knowledge I acquired in this chorus I was able to see the things my
teacher did in a class and reflect on if, for me as a student, they were helpful. These two reasons are
why I believe my reasoning behind teacher philosophy statement is sound.
An example of something that I wrote in my original statement that was later backed up by the
book was when I stated that every child is unique and therefore each

Johnny Character Analysis
People Can Change
In the beginning of the book Johnny behavior was very problematic, who at the time was
fourteen. Johnny was not mature, nor was he anywhere close to mature. He lives in the house of
the Laphams. Johnny who is an apprentice, is in charge of Dove and Dusty. Dove and Johnny
tend to bicker a lot because they do not get along. Johnny never treats Dove fairly, and Johnny
tends to pick on him as well. Dove who s lonely, is often misunderstood by many of the
characters in the book. Dove doesn t like Johnny because he is mean to him and is very
demanding. Johnny expects everything to be done in a blink of an eye, and if it s not, he becomes
extremely agitated. Mr. Lapham, who found out of Johnny s behavior, made him read out of the...

When Johnny burned his hand severely, he was limited on the things he could do around the house
at the Laphams. Cilla and Isannah would tease Johnny from time to time and Johnny would take it,
but he wouldn t really show that he didn t like being teased. He felt hopeless because he was
useless to the Lapham household. Johnny was kicked out of the Laphams because of his hand,
and felt very dismayed and was also filled with anger. Johnny wanted revenge, but didn t follow
through. This is the turning point of Johnny s personality. When Johnny went to Mr. Lytes
house to try to adopt him, Mr. Lyte laughed and sent him away which made Johnny mad. Johnny
showed Mr. Lyte his cup. Johnny thought that the Cup had led him to Mr. Lytes, which would
be where he truly belongs. When Johnny borrowed a coat from Rab, Mr. Lyte accused him of
stealing the coat and pressed charges on Johnny. This event made Johnny enraged because after
multiple times saying he did not steal it, Mr. Lyte did not believe him. Cilla testified for Johnny
which made him feel loved, which he had not felt in a long time. This made Johnny start to love
and care for others, since others had done the same for him. One thing that Johnny really got
caught by surprise was when Cilla kissed his hand. He said nothing. He was suddenly afraid he
might cry. Johnny felt like he wanted to cry because he realized that he has not been nice to
anyone for a long time and that people are still nice to him. He began to feel

An Evaluation Of An Effective Manager Is Responsible For...
A manager is responsible for the work of their people, inasmuch as a consistently
underperforming employee relies on the direction and feedback of an effective manager. Like it
or not, the system of a performance cycle was put into place to force a manager to give feedback
to their employees. Every year, managers have an opportunity to assess and then reassess their
employee s performance, and every year in kind, they fail to reach the mark. There are two things
a manager does, or fails to do, that contribute to the success and failure of a performance cycle: fail
to give real timefeedback and midcourse correction when necessary and give honest feedback
during the appraisal. By utilizing the steps of the Critical Incident Method they can attempt to add
value back into the system. Business Dictionary online defines the critical incident method as,
Situation analysis technique in which actions or behavior of an employee (during, for example, a
customer service event) is recorded and examined to ascertain the actual requirements of a
successful operation (BusinessDictionary.com). By consistently doing these two things, recording
and examining behavior, value can be added back into the performance cycle.
Performance cycles, as the name implies, are annual reporting periods that have a beginning the
plan, a middle the midterm, and an end the appraisal. Every manager is aware of the cycle, knows
what is expected of them and yet they find themselves challenged when

The Phony Theme of The Catcher In The Rye Essay example
The Phony Theme of The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger In life there comes a time when

Americans Have A Different Attitude Summary
In her article, Americans Have a Different Attitude , the author Yen Le Espiritu presents the issue of
immigrant groups, such as the Filipinos as viewing the United States as in immoral and
untraditional state that has lost sense of it s moral values. The author begins narrating the responses
she got from interviews she conducted within the Filipino community, located in San Diego,
California. Many of these Filipino homes live their lives through the scope of the Filipino Way ,
which unlike Americans, means that they value their families, hard work, commitment, marriage
and purity through sexual desires. Yen Le explains her findings and continue explaining how there
were commonly found notions of social ideals and harsh judgement against the American individual

However, I feel I can relate a bit to this article. I come from a christian home and have a mixed
heritage between Mexican and Cuban culture. Both of these cultures systematically oppress the
female group into this typical, household wife, that needs to stay inside the home, cook dinner,
prepare the meals for this husband and basically become submissive to her counterpart. Girls
had to dress a certain way, they were strictly forbidden to have sex outside of marriage or face
the harsh harassment from other people, they have curfews as compared to the guys, they
couldn t be late out at night, they had to do all domestic work, and could never be alone with
boys or else they were considered a cualquiera , which translates to slut. As a male, I feel too
many burdens have been given to women in securing the family s legacy and reputation. I strongly
feel that men should also be taken into consideration, not just women. Men also lose their virginity
and parents also need to be a bit more stricter on the males. If not that, then it isn t fair for just the

My Dream Journal
One of the best things I ve done in my life is that I ve constantly kept a dream journal. When I
was only 14, I became interested in what dreams meant and ever since then I ve taken my
dreams very seriously. I use my dreams to help me understand what is going on in my life and
what I need to do going forward. If you are not currently keeping a record of your dreams, let me
list the reasons why you should take this dreamjournal challenge and start!
5 Reasons To Keep A Dream Journal
1. Others Can t Interpret Your Dreams For You
Everyone wakes up from time to time and wonders what did that dream mean?
There are different places online you can go to get help to interpret your dreams. For instance, you
can check out Dream Moods, type in ex boyfriend and get a pre written response on what it means
to dream about an ex boyfriend.
Some of the interpretation is pretty good, and I m not saying that it might not be an accurate
interpretation for you. However, there is a good chance that it s not. The dream may not just
about your ex boyfriend (or whatever you dreamt about) and some generic interpretations. In fact,
there may be something else in the dream, such as a place or feeling, that is the real focus of the
dream and why you are having it.
When you keep a dream journal, you can write down all those little parts of the dream that make up
the whole, and as you go over your dream you may find that the dream is more about something
else than what you originally thought.

The Rocket Man Analysis
In the short story, The Rocket Man, an adaptation of The Illustrated Man, the author Ray Bradbury
describes the life of an astronaut who is torn between living an ordinary life with his family and
traveling through space on a rocket ship. The story, written in 1951, is based around how the father
s space travel affects his son, Doug, and the father s relationship with his wife. The Rocket Man
was written during the modern and contemporary periods of literature, a time when science fiction,
new technology, and realism was forthcoming. During the 1950 s, the United States began its
space program, and space travel was quickly becoming a reality. The Rocket Man was influenced
by this time period in history and literature, and the story describes a futuristic place where
technology is highly advanced and humans are capable of fast space travel to different planets
throughout our solar system. Within the reading, the author relays themes of displeasure and
unhappiness with life and the problems of a dysfunctional family. In developing these themes,
Bradbury incorporates literary techniques such as first person point of view, symbolism, and plot
elements like conflict and irony. Through these story elements, the author is able to develop the
theme and provide the reader better insight into the story meaning and the minds of all the
characters. First, the author writes the selection from the viewpoint of Doug via first person point
of view. Throughout the reading, the author

A faith in species equality
At the ripe age of fourteen, my life consisted of friends, school, family and the latest social media
networking sites. Lacking commitment and ideals, I went with the flow and considered myself a
normal teen. I liked shopping and adored cute animals, the typical generic qualities of a freshman
girl entering high school. One night while I ritually logged onto my Facebook checking my
notifications, I received a message from one of the Facebook group pages I had recently joined

At one point in time God mandated man and animal to eat solely from the earth. Perhaps in one
of the western world s oldest and most influential and powerful texts, there was reasoning for the
implied notion of equality. He creates man and woman at a synchronized point in time, on the
same day he creates all other earthly creatures again at the same time. He gives the same
instructions and blessings to animals as he does to man and woman he says, God blessed them
saying, be fruitful and multiply (Genesis, 1:22, 28). He also instructs both man and animal that the
earth is a food source for all. The text implies that animal and human are created and instructed in
an analogous fashion, as equal inhabitants of the earth, similar to the ideal against speciesism, that
all of God s creatures or earth inhabitants desire the equal right to life.
The same texts that seems to imply the guidelines of animal equality, is the main source of the
Judeo Christian faith. In my lifetime, I have never witnessed someone sitting down at a dinner table
and being interrogated and judged as to why they practice their Christian

Rhetorical Analysis Essay On Discovery Channel
One with the Planet
Earth is the only planet known to support life. This life has created millions of different species,
all part of a complex food chain and all with a distinct niche. These species all have differing
habitats, ranging from freezing tundras and parched deserts to vast oceans and lavish rainforests.
Among these species, one seems to overpower every other: homosapiens. Humans have made it
their duty to find a way to survive in all sorts of environments, to explore every inch of the planet,
and to make the best of what they discover. There are so many things to do, so many things to
create, that humans are still working to reach their full potential. One such network that shows
everything there is to show is Discovery Channel. In one commercial ad, Discovery Channel uses
strong persuasion skills and rhetorical devices to make viewers feel that the Earth is amazing and
that the entire human race is one large planet loving group of people, all while luring people to

Justification of American Slavery
How can you justify something that s incredibly wrong? Our founding fathers were face with the
same dilemma over 400 years ago when it came to the issue of building up The New World. They

came. However, our founding fathers knew that creating this New World(America) need cheap
labor and a way to build up their economy. This lead to the enslavement of the Africans. Although

The elite of Chesapeake society condoned various forms of servant exploitation in all gradations of
severity. From 1607, the founding of the colony in Virginia, until 1660, Chesapeake masters abused
servants in the course of their work, but only rarely denied them their rights if they reached the end
of their indenture. By 1660, the system took an even more sinister turn. Tobacco planters morphed
their already exploitative system into a new system that shared many parallels with slavery. The
planter elite prevented freedman who had legally completed their indentures from acquiring land,
which was the entire attraction of the New World. They tried to keep servants indentured for
longer, and if they could not keep them as servants, they ensured that the former servant would

English precedents for indentured servitude and the nature of tobacco agriculture, which both

Jamaican Creole Poem Analysis
The Poetry within Jamaican Creole in a Linguistic Imperalised England It is clear from the
poem to see how Linton feels about the racially hostile environment in which he lives. He
chooses to show his social identity with his strong Jamaican accent which conveys to the reader
that he is of immigrant status, this is fundamental to this poem. Within this essay, I wish to
analyze his reasoning for choosing to express himself with a post colonial approach by using his
Jamaican Creole and how he chooses to combat the conflict of the position of language in the
development of colonization. In his most repetitive stanza, which takes the form of a chorus in
spoken form, Linton says. Inglan is a bitch dere s no escapin it Inglan is a bitch dere s no runnin

strengthen an emotion a writer wants to get across in his material. The repetition of the word bitch
Linton expresses his frustration and disappointment for British imperialism as he tries to make the
most of what seems like a cemented situation and yet is still confronted with institutionalized
racism. In the thirteenth Stanza Linton expresses the exploitation of immigrant workers by
saying mi know dem have work, work in abundant yet still, dem mek mi redundant now, at fifty

The Adventures of Ibn Battuta by Ross E. Dunn
The book I chose to read for this summer assignment was The Adventures of Ibn Battuta (Revised
edition) written by Ross E. Dunn. The predominant reason as to why I chose this book is because
I am Moroccan descent and I had a strong desire to learn more about the rich cultures of the Arab
world. I once read that those who had the last name Bencomo, which was orginally from the Canary
Islands and written as Tehncomo were descendents of the Islamic traveler, Ibn Battuta. This sparked
even more curiosity to learn about my ancestor s history. I heard stories from my grandmother
about the Moors since her father was half Moroccan. I knew I had to learn about this since this is
a part of who I am.
This book mainly narrates the adventures and travels of a 14th century Muslim scholar, native of
Tangier who studied law but dreamed of traveling and seeing different perspectives of the world.
Ibn is described by many as the Marco Polo of the Muslim world. Ibn traveled by all means
possible during his time period, horse, camel, boat, foot, and boat for approximately 29 years.
The area he covered would now be the equivalent to 40 modern countries and 73,000 miles.
Quotes I found most interesting were A scholar s education is greatly improved by traveling in
quest of knowledge and meeting the authoritative teachers (of his time). by Ibn Khaldun pg. 27.
This was quite inspiring because it shows that with an open mind and many travels you can age

buying a group of securities in one product. The most popular ones are mutual funds, segregated
funds and exchange traded funds. What they have in common is that these products are an easy
way to buy a group of securities at once instead of buying each security individually. The fund
can also proportion the securities so you the individual investor does not have to. There are two
main classifications for what type of fund you can purchase in terms of costs. It is important to
know how these costs work so you can avoid paying too much for this convenience. These
products differ in terms of how they are administered, access to the products and their costs. Active
Versus Passive Investing Before getting into which of the products are suitable for you, there are
some aspects that need to be considered so that you understand what the variations are among the
products. Active investing is when someone (a portfolio manager) picks the stocks that are in the
fund and decides how much of each one to hold (the weighting).

Teen Pregnancy Causes
Some causes of Teen pregnancy are absent parenting, lack of knowledge, substance abuse, living in
poverty and peer pressure. The number of teens within the ages of 14 19 has substantially
decreased over the last several years. While examining the causes of teen pregnancy, new methods
of prevention can be defined. If there are different methods identified for preventing teen pregnancy
than the number of teens can go down more.
Absent parenting is one of the leading causes of teen pregnancy. Women who do not have both
parents in the picture are eight times more likely to become pregnant at a young age than
someone who has both parents. On account of absentee parents the time the parent leaves affect
the risk that the child has on becoming a teen parent. When a parent leaves or is present but
does not engage with the child, there is no one to lead by example. If there is no one for a teen
to look up to they look for an alternative that may not make the best choices. As a result of not
having a parent present, when the child executes a wrong decision, there is little to no discipline
Decisions that are not in the best interest of the teenager are likely to increase if they know there
will be no punishment for their actions. Also when there are not a present parent girls are prone to
search for love in places that are not healthy. While searching for love, girls often find men who are

Basketball s Characters In The Life Of Basketball
Basketball are in Tamika Catchings family DNA, basketball genes were passed from her parents

was the lab inquiries about of Louis Pasteur in the 1860s and afterward Robert Koch in the next
decades that gave the logical verification to germ hypothesis. Their work opened the way to inquire
about germs and potential life sparing medications.
Another great thing about the 18th century was that there were many inventions created. Most of

RenГ© Laennec invented the stethoscope in 1816. He invented it because one time he was
working with a female patient and he needed to listen to her heartbeat. At the time the common
way to do this was to place your head on the patient s chest. His patient was overweight so he
thought that the head to chest method would not work so he needed something new. He rolled
up a sheet of paper into a tube and placed one end on the patient s chest. The tube magnified
sound, and Laennec found he could hear her lung sounds easily by putting his ear to the open
end. The rolled up piece of paper was soon replaced by a hollow wooden tube. Laennec named
his invention the stethoscope . In the 1890s, the hollow wooden tube was replaced by the rubber
and now plastic, binaural stethoscope, much like stethoscopes that are used today. These
stethoscopes have two ear pieces and a bell like end that is placed on the body. Stethoscopes are
not only used to listen to the chest but also other parts of the body such as the bowels and during
pregnancy. Electronic stethoscopes that amplify the sounds in the chest and produce graphs were
first produced in the 1970s and continue to be refined. Science Museum. Brought to Life: Exploring

Somaliland
1.Introduction Somaliland is the previous British protectorate, and was the typical fragile state
situated in the northwest of Somalia. Somaliland was ignored by the Mogadishu based government
since the 1980s. There are historical records that affirms how the wars with Barre s army was
devastating, and in several accounts it was documented that during the war period its urban
communities were besieged, its farmland mined, and a huge number of its inhabitants fled to
neighbouring nations. Public administration institutions and business organizations vanished.
Countless individuals had been executed and many thousands disrupted, their property and homes
ruined and or plundered (xx, xxx). The economy in effect came to a standstill, and the armed force,
police and public administration had broken down and their substance stripped. In those days,
whatever efforts for reconstruction was enormously impossible. Today it is possible but difficult to
overlook how far the state has come, and what amount has as of now been accomplished (Bulhan

remarkable accomplishment (Souverijn 2001:82). Somaliland has rebuilt mainly through their own

A Streetcar Named Desire Stanley Analysis
Congratulations, Stanley! The play, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams starts with
basically an introduction of the characters and Blanche showing up to visit the home of her sister
Stella. Stella lives with her husband, Stanley in a shabby two room flat in New Orleans. Blanche
is dressed like she is going to a cocktail party in the garden district (95), but really, she is down and
out. She pretends to be coming to visit, but she has no place else to go because she has lost the
family estate, her teaching job and her reputation. She comes uninvited and unannounced and stays
for months. The landlord, Eunice lets Blanche into the apartment and Blanche is appalled by the
conditions her sister, Stella is living in. When Stella... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stanley, lately you been doing all you can think of to rub her the wrong way, Stanley, and . . .
Blanche and I grew up under very different circumstances than you did (134). This makes Stanley
feel like he is losing the game and therefore the prize and so he makes his own move to even up
the score or even possibly to pull ahead. He gives Stella all the dirt he has collected on Blanche.
He tells her the Flamingo Hotel threw her out and she s practically was told by the Major to get
out of the town (135). Then he told Stella that Blanche was fired from her teaching job because
of a seventeen year old boy she d gotten mixed up with! (135). When Stella asks Stanley if he

all that stuff and let my best friend get caught! (136). Stella said she did not believe him, but it
gave her a great deal of doubt about believing Blanche and Stanley gets points and moves slightly
past Blanche s game piece on the game board. After dinner Stanley makes another move ahead
on the game board by sweetly telling Stella that it s gonna be all right after she goes and after
you ve had the baby. It s gonna be all right again between you and me the way that it was. You
remember the way that it was? Them nights we had together? God, honey, it s gonna be sweet
when we can make noise in the night the way that we used to (139). One important thing here is
that Stanley has convinced Stella that he is telling the truth and he gives her reason to doubt
Blanche now and in the future. Stanley then makes a move that would surely lose him points and
he would have to move fifteen spaces backward on the game board were it not for what

Summary Of The Selfish Gene By Richard Dawkins
In the book, The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins he elaborates on two very important phrases
that he will share throughout the entire book. This book will show how both individual selfishness
and individual altruism are explained by the fundamental law that I am calling gene selfishness. (6)
I am sure we all know the word selfishness pretty well, but to some altruismmay be new. The way I
view it is that if someone is altruistic, than they do things that benefit the good of the group, species,
or simply, anyone but themselves. In this book we learn the difference in natural selection and how
selfishness and altruism effect those things. Dawkins will mainly relate his matter to different types
of animals and explain the biological changes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main idea of the book was somewhat interesting, but science has never been by favorite
subject . But some things did pop out to me. This is a book about someone s theory of how
animals and in way even hums are what they are. This is something that based on my religion
can be debatable but i do fully understand where and why this information is stated. I do agree
that humans should act, in way, similar to animals because i have noticed with just some of my
observations that the growing process of these animals turn out to be marvelous creatures. I also
know that humans are very selfish in many ways and do not always focus on the final result
because they are to occupied focusing on the now and what they want now. If we were more like
the altruistic behavioural species then we would definitely be a much more successful kind. For
example, a long time ago humans became up with the word changing idea of electricity, factories,
etc. then, it was the best thing to ever happen. Things got done people were happy live was
fantastic. Although today this advances are not necessarily helpful as helpful to us. Of course i do
know we would be nothing without them, but we are also suffering very much with global
warming and smog, etc.but way back when we didn t even think about all this. This is a harsh
example but in smaller portions, according to The Selfish Gene, animals would plan this out better

2/15/17 What s the Why? The book of Galatians was written for the simple reason to clear up the
truth of the gospel. Shortly after Paul left the church of Galatia, an unknown person or people came
to the church and led them to believe otherwise. The church of Galatia, being brand new was
thrown off by the idea that they were living an immoral life, and immediately changed what they

The South Galatian theory holds the strongest with the stance that it was one of the churches Paul
began on his initial missionary journey. While there is no scripture to back up that the North had
churches truly established according to Acts, the South had churches planted. One of the major
reasons South Galatian is supported is because of the fact that it is on the journey Paul had to
take to get to his home, Tarsus. The reason this theory is important is because of the cultural
differences we see presented, as the Northern Galatians would tend towards heavy roman actions.
Also the fact that they are under such extreme Jewish influences shows that they are very unlikely
to live in the North vs. the South, because Jews were more prevalent in the Southern region. There
are 2 very contrasting ideas as to when the epistle was written. One theory states that it was written
in the early stages of Paul s ministry and the other states it was probably one of the last letters that
Paul ever wrote . There is no indicator at all as to when this book was written, but most scholars
believe that it was written around 49 A.D., considering that during the letter Paul mentions the
council. Fortunately, the primary thrust of Paul s argument is clear enough and does not revolve
around our ability to identify the setting with precision2 . Culture Until Jesus died on the cross and
fulfilled the new covenant, the Jews were

Muscle Compensation Patterns
Your wrist hurts, now your bicep hurts, then your shoulder hurts, and you are now wondering why
your whole arm hurts. Muscle compensation happens when people hurt one muscle and they try to
make up for their weakened strength. The Fleet Feet Sports Webpage, a webpage dedicated to
runners and their health, says, The body uses compensation patterns to perform motions when
strength and mobility are not sufficient ( Compensation Patterns ). Compensation can lead to a
multitude of serious problems. During a job shadowing experience, I saw a patient experience

Pain that was in one area, then localizes into another muscle is one symptom. Friction in a joint
where someone cannot move through a full range of motion ( Compensation Patterns ). The friction
would be caused by edema, or swelling, in the joint. The Fleet Feet Website, a runners and health
website, has numerous symptoms to look out for. They say someone should notice chronic muscle
tightness, even with stretching ( Compensation Patterns ). Unusual tenderness in a muscle that is
not usually tender ( Compensation Patterns ). Another sign is a recurring injury that never goes

These symptoms are key signs of muscle compensation. Muscular compensation can be hidden.
Some people cannot tell they have muscular compensation. Asymmetry is hidden by false
symmetry due to muscle compensation ( Dangers of Muscular ). This means that your body can
hide the signs of these patterns. The body will recognize there is asymmetry because of the weak

seriously injured. The Fleet Feet Website, a website dedicated to runners and health, says that the

Optimism The Most Powerful Thing In The World
Optimism is a powerful thing. We know it more commonly as hope. Hope empowers us, and lets
us press on even in the face of defeat. However, having too much of it can be dangerous. The Jews
for example, during World War II, they had too much hope, and they wound up dead. Allow me to
expand. As I said before, optimism(hope) is the most powerful thing in the world, with the second
being fear. However, having too much of it is very dangerous. Too much hope can cause people to
have tunnel vision. Hope can restrict the ability to notice, or recognize the things that are going on
around them. People can get caught in a feeling of unending optimism, and therefore miss
important things like hazards, or dangerous things that could be occurring around them.... Show

The beginning of their optimism began even before the Nazi s captured their cities. An example of
this would be from the book entitled Night . The main character s city (Jewish), heard that some of
the other Jewish cities in their country, had been captured by the Nazis. The citizens of the main
character s city thought that they would be safe, and that the Nazis would not invade their city.
They believed that God would save them, therefore, they did not take any action to protect them
from the Nazis and from having their city captured by them. If they would have taken preventative
measures, like escaping their city, they could have prevented being captured by the Nazi s. Jews
were blinded with so much optimism that they did nothing to protect themselves. They carried on
with the belief that they would not have their cities invaded, and that they would therefore remain

Herbert Hoover on March 3, 1931.
Over the next four years Bacon introduced thirteen more bills to establish regulation of labor on
federal public works projects.[10] Finally, a bill submitted by Bacon and Senator James J. Davis,
with the support of the American Federation of Labor,[11] passed in 1931. The law provided that
all federal construction contractors with contracts in excess of $5,000 or more must pay their
workers the prevailing wage, which in practice meant the wages of unionized labor.
The measure passed because Congressmen saw the bill as protection for local, unionized[12]
white workers salaries in the fierce labor market of the Depression.[13] In particular, white union
workers were angry that black workers who were barred from unions were migrating to the North
in search of jobs in the building trades and undercutting white wages.[14]
The comments of various congressmen reveal the racial animus that motivated the sponsors and
supporters of the bill. In 1930, Representative John J. Cochran of Missouri stated that he had

colored mechanics getting work and bringing the employees from the South. [15] Representative

Deception In Memoirs Of A Geisha By Arthur Golden
Thesis:
In the novel, Memoirs of a Geisha, by Arthur Golden the theme of deception is prominent. Through
the deception experienced by Sayuri, golden teaches his readers that deception can hurt but it can
lead to something better.
Methods of development:
Deception from Mr. Tanaka
I couldn t stop thinking about Mr.Tanaka. He had taken me away from my mother and father,
sold me into slavery, sold my sister into something even worse. I had taken him as a kind man. I
thought he was so refined, so worldly. What a stupid child I had been. I would never go back to
Yoroido, I decided. Or if I did , it would only be to tell Mr. Tanaka how much I hated him. (Golden
pg.82)
But the truth is that the afternoon when I met Mr. Tanaka Ichiro really was the best and worst of
my life. (Golden pg.7)
Sayuri admired Mr. Tanaka and wanted to become his adopted daughter, after being taken away
from her home she was extremely hurt and felt stupid for believing in him.
She felt as though her life would never be the same again, and even tried to run away risking her
chances of becoming a Geisha.
Sayuri eventually benefited from this as she herself noticed that living in Gion allowed her to
become much more successful allowing her to take care of herself. She recognized that if she had
remained in Yoroido she would have never been able to achieve success and that she would still be
living in her little tipsy house with little to support herself.

Beowulf is an epic poem depicting a noble warrior who goes through great battles across a

archetype. He is motivated by glory, always puts up a fair fight, and is willing to sacrifice himself

The Biological And Psychological Theories Of Crime And...
Crime is adaptation to life stress. It is best understood in terms of the manner in which the
individual experiences the biological, psychological and socially determined situations of his
existence. (Halleck, 1967, p. 63) The modern police department was born out of urban mob violence
that tormented the nation s cities during the nineteenth century. The new police departments were
replacements for the night watch systems and relegated constables and sheriffs to serving court
orders and running jails. Early police agencies were corrupt, brutal, and inefficient. (Walker,
Popular Justice, 61) While some people are predisposed to criminal activity. The predisposition to
crimeis formed from the biological and psychological theories of crime and criminal behavior. The
earliest studies on delinquents and criminal conduct sought to explain the presence of criminal
behavior based on intuitions obtained from the biological sciences. This is not to suggest that
biological theories are neutral in social, psychological, or environmental correlates; rather, the
organic approach to delinquency and crime believes that the physical, neuropsychological, and
chemical components of human nature offer more persuasive evidence than do all other
alternatives. (Arrigo 8) The origin of human actions include aggressive, violent, and even criminal
behavior reside within the personality structure or cognitive processes of the individual. In this way

The Opposition Of Dalai Lama
Introduction
This paper analysis the arguments of Dalai Lama. He is one of the proponents of pluralism in
religion. He has a supremely forbearing view of other faiths. Many consider him as a person who
encourages love and compassion in humanity. Many believe that Dalai Lama promoted pluralism
rather than Buddhism as the best faith. Many believe that Dalai Lama is the only Tibetan who
celebrates actively the great diversity that different faiths provide. Despite the fact that many tend
to consider Dalai Lama as a pluralist, this work will argue that Dalai Lama was a Buddhist and that

This shows that he really wanted all people, irrespective of their systems to show love and
compassion rather to engage in divisive religious doctrines. He also considers it wrong to try to
change people. This is because converting people may enable one only succeed in weakening faith
but may not manage to convince them of validity of the new one. Because of this, Lama believe
that compassionate practice can enable both the practitioners and those around them to be more
loving and more content. Because of this, he claims that all religions can enhance compassion.
According to him, if people follow their own faiths as sincerely and truthfully as possible, they
would surely become compassionate and loving as possible.
Another objection that may show that Lama was not a monoist is that the interview shows that he
perceives all religions as being concerned with the disciplining the mind and enhancing peace,

In addition, the interview shows that Lama believes that love and compassion, which is the goal
of any religious system, have the same goals or purpose irrespective of the religion. For example,
when a Buddhist has love, the same love would be the same as the love a Christian have. So if all
people have love, then there will be no distinction between Buddhism and Christianity and that all

The Lion King ( Film )
The Lion King (FILM)
This Disney animated film follows the adventures of the young lion Simba, the heir of his father,
Mufasa. Simba s wicked uncle, Scar plots to usurp Mufasa s throne by luring father and son into a
stampede of wildebeests. But Simba escapes, and only Mufasa is killed. Simba returns as an adult
to take back his homeland from Scar with the help of his friends Timon and Pumbaa.
The first theme in the film the The Lion King would have to be manipulation. Although this theme
may just be linked to Scar, I will mention it because he is a main character. A second example of
manipulation would have to be when Scar says I will be king. Stick with me, and you ll never
go hungry again! This quote is clear evidence that manipulation is a key theme because Scar
constantly manipulates a lot of people. This quote also shows us that Scar manipulates the
hyenas because he says you ll never go hungry , when in actual fact they do. Scar just
manipulates the hyenas because he wants them to become his soldiers for him. Another
example of manipulation would have to be when Scar says Now, you wait here. Your father has
a marvelous surprise for you. This quote shows that Scar manipulates Simba because he wants to
become king of Pride rock. These quotes also show that the purpose of Scar s manipulation is
due to greed. An example of manipulation is when Scar says But the king is dead. And if it weren
t for you, he d still be alive . This shows that Scar

Descriptive Essay On A Bathtub
In a nook, hidden away in a spacious house, on the shore of Cape Cod, lies a bathtub. The white
acrylic platform glistens when the sun shines through the lengthy window. During darkness, a
candle can be seen, with the flame standing still, no wind, and no sound. The aroma of Sun and
Sand scented Yankee Candle turns the blue walls of the bathroominto a clear, sky and the tile floors
into warm sand of a tropical island. Beyond this bathroom door lies chaos. As the door creaks
open, eight siblings, loud television shows, and pots and pans tossing, would bombard you. If you
are lucky my black cuddly dog would knock you over. You may believe that a bathtub
is just an
ordinary household essential, but take all of your life experiences and dump them here. It is as if
it is a shark cage protecting you from the massive great white sharkapproaching. In the cage you
know you are safe, you can hear your deepest thoughts, and all is well. Take a deeper look into the
bathtub bubbles it will become so much more.
I became hooked from the start, my very first bath. I certainly did not remember this occurrence,
but the picture of my bald head with that from the ear to ear smile, sitting in a bubbly sink,
proved that it was love at first sight. Then onto the days where my mother would put my brother
and I in the bath together. Then came four children, then six. Luckily for me, by the time my
eighth sibling came along I was far too old for these family bath sessions. I was granted my own,

Fear, Loathing, By Hunter S. Thompson s Novel, Fear And...
The American Dream is the phrase and trademark of American society today that many hope to
achieve in some point in their lives. In Hunter S. Thompson s novel, Fear and Loathing in Las
Vegas, readers follow Thompson depicted as Raoul Duke and his attorney Dr. Gonzo in hoping to
find the American Dream. It uses Gonzo Journalism, a style that is an adaption of Picaresque
narrativeto document his drug induced experiences traveling through 1970 s Las Vegas. The
Picaresque novels are composed of first person narrativethat relates to the adventures of a picaro
character or rogue hero with an episodic structure and romantic techniques to present the story as a
realist. The novel presents various examples of picaresque genre and American journey narratives.
Thompson uses picaresque narrative of a rogue hero s desert journey for the American Dream in
bars, casinos, hotels only to find that it is essentially unattainable. At the same time, Thompsons
examines the generation s failure to achieve the American Dream by commenting on their cultural
behavior in the 1960s and 1970s.
The principles of Picaresque genre are revealed throughout the novel: first person narrative and
episodic structure of a rogue hero. Thompson portrays an episodic plot in the novel where the
rogue hero travels back and forth in search of the American Dream. Duke and his attorney drive
their red convertible across the deserts of Las Vegas. As their drug consumption increases, they

Candida Royale
From the onset of her career as an adult film actress to her progression into the producer/ director
role, Candida Royale has been well immersed in the realm of adult entertainment for the majority of
her adult life.
In 1984, unhappy with the chauvinistic nature of current pornography, Candida resolved to create
gender inclusive erotic content through Femme Productions, an endeavor that would aim to
manufacture what she coined sensually explicit content (Vandever, 2015). The picture s female
viewpoint would attempt to entertain viewers while teaching couple s about mutually beneficial
relations using healthy sexual role modeling ( About Ms.Royalle ). The introduction of couples and
feminist pornography in the smut arena demonstrated that there was a market for a less vulgar
genre of porn equipped with storylines, original soundtracks and a diversity of characters in a ...

She s conducted speeches at variety of venues including the American Psychiatric Association s

erotic filmmaker invited to join the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and
Therapists motivated by the encouragement of positive sexuality in her films ( About Ms.Royalle ).
Contrary to the popular anti pornography feministic view that all variations of porn are degrading
to women and thus disempowering, Candida strongly believed that merging feminism with sexual
self expression would help to create healthy erotic cinematography that could educate viewers on
equal sexual roles and satisfaction as well as empower women in regards to sexual experience

Classic Interactions Between Patients And Doctors
Classic interactions between patients and doctors rely heavily on medical competence. The doctor,
the supposed superior in the arrangement, acts as a symbol for scientific proficiency while the
patient exists as a sponge. While extensive knowledge is nonnegotiable in the field, empathy is a
key component in ensuring proper diagnoses and sustaining healthy, impartial interactions.
Margaret Edson s play W;t employs dialogue and discontinuous juxtaposition in order to draw
attention to the inevitable disconnect between patients and providers, which endangers successful
medical engagement and outcomes. Proper communication is critical in fostering interpersonal
connections. This is particularly essential in medicine, as patients and providers often communicate
with strictly bureaucratic terms. Dr. Kelekian and Vivian address each other with not only
impersonal terms, but truly contradictory titles: Doctor and Miss respectively (7). The
professionalism in doctor and the informality in Miss juxtaposes the two characters affluence,
suggesting that the patient is subservient to the dominant medical professional. This power
dynamic sets the stage for disproportionate, inequitable dialogue. Consequentially, this very
dynamic indicates a hierarchical structure that reduces Kelekian s empathy as he does not address
Vivian with her proper title, Professor . Rather, she is reduced to a generalized Miss , clumping her
and all other patients with that title into the same

Extracting Natural Gas From Shale Formations
Natural gas produced from shale formations has become important in the energy supply market for
the United States. Extracting natural gas from shale reserves was not considered feasible until
recently because of low permeability of the shale rock formations. New developments in hydraulic
fracturing technology have led to a boom in domestic shale gas production. The United States has
experienced economic benefits through revenue and job creation in predominantly rural areas while
increasing the energy security of the U.S. by decreasing dependence on foreign oil supplies.
However, the resounding question remains: at what cost?
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a process used to extract natural gas from deep shale reserves
5,000 8,000 feet below the ground surface. This process allows energy companies to access
previously unavailable energy sources in states that have deep oil and gas reserves. The fracking
process involves pumping a mixture of water, chemicals and sand at high pressure into a well,
which fractures the surrounding rock formation and props open passages that allow natural gas to
freely flow from rock fractures to the production well. Once the well is developed, the carrying
fluid can then flow back to the ground surface along with the gas.
Shale gas has become embroiled in controversy over alleged impacts on public health and the
environment. Some segments of the public have become deeply suspicious of the veracity and
motives of gas companies. These

The Hudson Bay Company
1.The Hudson Bay Company was created in the late 17th century, decades before Canada
became a country ( Our History ). Despite the success of the Hudson Bay Company, French and
American interests did not back them ( Our History ). The main operations of the HBC was
centred on trading with the Natives ( Our History ). The Natives brought furs to the forts and
posts of the Hudson Bay Company, located around the shores of James and Hudson Bays, to
barter for manufactured goods like knives, kettles, beads, needles, and blankets ( Our History ).
These posts and forts along the west of Canada influenced where modern, major cities would
grow ( Our History ). In 1821, HBC merged with the North West Company, its most successful
rival, which was located in Montreal ( Our History ). With this merger, the Hudson Bay
Company now had posts all over Canada, and the United States. Also, this important acquisition
set a permanent pattern in HBC s growth and development ( Our History ). When fashion tastes
started to change in the late 19th century, HBC adapted with its customer base, and shifted its
focus ( Our History ). Over time, HBC started to carry a wider variety of products to help grow
their company, and to meet consumer demands ( Our History ). Another example of when HBC
adapted and innovated is when they opened six department stores in six of the major cities all
over Canada ( Our History ). When there was a recession in the 1980s, HBC once again adapted to

The Human Side Of Enterprise
Douglas McGregor was an American professor and psychologist who is most famous for his
book, The Human Side of Enterprise, published in 1960. In this work, he conceives and examines
two theories of behaviors in the workplace. They are known as Theory X and Theory Y. These
distinct theories describe how individuals generally behave at work and how different types of
managers might govern their employees. They have been used over the years to help managers to
understand their employees needs, behavior and how to better manage their staff. These theories
can be analyzed and broken down into three of many sub topics: Motivation, LeadershipStyle and
Conflict Resolution. The two basic labels that McGregor created describe the assumptions that
managers might make about their employees views on motivation and behavior. According to
McGregor s (1960) Theory X, the average man is by nature indolent and is typically self centered
and lacks ambition (p. 2). In this situation, managers are forced to act in an authoritarian manner.
They must coerce their employees to do their jobs, because the assumption is that workers take
little to no initiative. Theory X demonstrates that workers view money and job security as their
primary motivator. Conversely, Theory Y states that people actually enjoy working and will
actively seek out greater responsibility. Managers in this scenario would encourage and emphasize
the empowerment of their employees and would provide a surplus of

Strategic Behavior And Game Theory
Introduction
Strategic behavior and game theory coincide together in many ways. Strategic behavior plans
happen within the confines of game theory. Silva, Mota, and Gril (2015) describe game theory and
all that is involved with it as one of the most powerful tools within social science in general and
economics (p. 421). With this statement, a deeper look into the measures that sum up strategic
behavior and game theory is essential for an understanding of a firm s decision in the global
economy.
Strategic Behavior
Definition
As oligopolists compete for advantages in their market, they must make decisions about the
approach they take. Strategic behavior is the plan the oligopolist takes after understanding all of the
measures that will go into the plan as well as the opportunity costs by not choosing other plans
(Salvatore, 2015). These actions are taken into consideration by the competitors in the industry as
well. They then must arrange or manipulate their plan in order to compete.
Role in Economics Strategic behavior is what drives a company into a competitive market with the
tools to be successful. If the leaders in a company do not take into account all of the criteria that
establishes a strategic behavioral plan, they will not be able to compete in the industry at their
highest potential. Ursacescu and Cioc (2015) describe the criteria that is incorporated into making
strategic behavioral decisions such as operational intelligence, informational intelligence,

Us Vs Nixon Case Study
The case behind the Watergate scandal is the supreme court case United States vs. NIxon. This is
a famous case because president Nixon was the one being accused. It all started in June of 1972
when a handful of men came armed with bugging equipment and cameras into the Watergate hotel.
They worked for president Nixon. Their mission was to bug a democratic committee office. Nixon
was trying to eavesdrop on his competition in the election. The men were caught and arrested. It
wasn t until 1973 that Nixon was accused of being apart of the scandal. Investigators discovered
that NIxon installed a recording device that automatically saved his conversations with the men
involved with the scandal. Nixon refused to release any of the tapes. He claimed... Show more

The supreme court ruled against Nixon and in favor of The United States. The justices were,
Burger, Douglas, Brennan, Stewart, White, Marshall, Blackmun, and Powell. It came down to 8 0,
all the justices voted in favor of the United States. Burger was the one who wrote the majority
opinion. He wrote that, Presidents do enjoy a constitutionally protected executive privilege, but that
privilege is not absolute. After the case was final, Richard Nixon released all of the tapes. It was
confirmed that he was involved with the watergate scandal. He had contact with the men that he
ordered to bug the committees office. He shortly resigned after everything releasing the tapes. He
became known as the first president to resign in history. This case is very famous and will go

My Cultural Aspects Of My Culture In Cape Verdean
A culture is a set of characteristics of a particular group of people. It emcopasses language, social
aspect, such as relegion, cuisine, social habits,, music, and arts. I considered my culture to be
Cape Verdean. I was born and raised in Cape Verde until I was fourteen. My country was colonized
by the Portuguese, so there are a lot common culture aspects between Cape Verdeand Portugal . One
of the results of colonization was implementation of catholicism as a primary religion in my
country. It was not until recent years that other forms of religious started to emerge in Cape
Verde. However, for some people who strong practice catholicism there is a strong push back
against those who aren t from the same religion. This has raised a lot religion conflict not only
with foreign people who come to Cape verde from different countries in Africa, but it has also
originated conflicts amongst Cape Verdeans who have a different belief.
Into what region or geographical section or world were you born? What messages have you
received about people from this region or geographical area?
Cape Verde is located right in center of the Atlantic Ocean, 500 km off the Western Coast of
Africa. In recent years, more people have started to questioning the location of Cape Verde because
unlike other countries in Africa, Cape Verde is located outside of the African continent. I identify

The Appeal of the Mystery Genre Essay
Question One:At the beginning of the semester I wrote in my personal information handout that I
felt what made the mystery genre stand apart from all other genres was its ability to keep the
reader/watcher on the edge of their seat wanting more information. That mysteries are
unpredictable, making the reader/watcher stay until the end because they must know the ending. I
still feel this way, but my understanding of this concept has certainly evolved and sharpened. First
and foremost, the concept of keeping the audience on the edge of their seat wanting more is driven
by epistemic sequencing. This concept, described by Talmy, is the idea of who knows what when
and is very crucial to the mystery genre and in keeping the audience... Show more content on

He states in Chapter One, Part Four, for one thing, we know that narrative in all its forms is a
dialectic between what was expected and what came to pass. For there to be a story, something
unforeseen must happen (15). Unforeseen is the key word in this quote by Burner and is crucial
to the mystery genre. Within mystery twists and turns occur, red herrings take the audience
down the wrong path, and the audience plays detective, but for it to be a true mystery,
something unforeseen must occur. This unforeseen occurrence is what keeps the audience on
the edge of their seat and coming back for more. It is common knowledge that the detectives
cannot find the murderer only 20 minutes into the episode or 50 pages into the book and while
the audience certainly enjoys being correct when the killer is revealed, continuously being
correct would ruin the allure of the genre. It is stories such as The Murders in Rue Morgue by
Edgar Allen Poe that keep the readers on their feet with the unforeseen. When first reading Poe s
story, I would have never guessed that an orangutang committed the murder and I am sure many
other readers felt the same way, which draws us into the story. Further, Stockwell s concept of
cognitive deixis also plays an important role in keeping the audience on the edge of their seat.
Their are five types of cognitive

  • 3. My Original Teaching Philosophy Statement I honestly would not make any changes to my original teaching philosophy statement because I believe that after reading through the entire phycology book, the things I read only supported the things I stated in my philosophy statement. When writing my philosophy statement I had not taken any previous educationclasses to aid my original teachingphilosophy but I have been working with kids my entire life and so I have seen first hand what things work with children and what does not. This does not by any means mean that I know everything and have all the answers to teaching, it simply means I have had a little bit of a head start with working with kids. You learn my trying something out, analyzing if it worked, the reflecting on that and changing it. Even before taking this class and reading that in the text I was already practicing this when I was the Sunday school teacher for 2 3 year olds at my dads church. Another thing that gave me ideas on my teaching philosophy statement was by being in a class and have an amazing teacher, or a not so amazing teacher. Even without the knowledge I acquired in this chorus I was able to see the things my teacher did in a class and reflect on if, for me as a student, they were helpful. These two reasons are why I believe my reasoning behind teacher philosophy statement is sound. An example of something that I wrote in my original statement that was later backed up by the book was when I stated that every child is unique and therefore each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Johnny Character Analysis People Can Change In the beginning of the book Johnny behavior was very problematic, who at the time was fourteen. Johnny was not mature, nor was he anywhere close to mature. He lives in the house of the Laphams. Johnny who is an apprentice, is in charge of Dove and Dusty. Dove and Johnny tend to bicker a lot because they do not get along. Johnny never treats Dove fairly, and Johnny tends to pick on him as well. Dove who s lonely, is often misunderstood by many of the characters in the book. Dove doesn t like Johnny because he is mean to him and is very demanding. Johnny expects everything to be done in a blink of an eye, and if it s not, he becomes extremely agitated. Mr. Lapham, who found out of Johnny s behavior, made him read out of the... Cilla and Isannah would tease Johnny from time to time and Johnny would take it, but he wouldn t really show that he didn t like being teased. He felt hopeless because he was useless to the Lapham household. Johnny was kicked out of the Laphams because of his hand, and felt very dismayed and was also filled with anger. Johnny wanted revenge, but didn t follow through. This is the turning point of Johnny s personality. When Johnny went to Mr. Lytes house to try to adopt him, Mr. Lyte laughed and sent him away which made Johnny mad. Johnny showed Mr. Lyte his cup. Johnny thought that the Cup had led him to Mr. Lytes, which would be where he truly belongs. When Johnny borrowed a coat from Rab, Mr. Lyte accused him of stealing the coat and pressed charges on Johnny. This event made Johnny enraged because after multiple times saying he did not steal it, Mr. Lyte did not believe him. Cilla testified for Johnny which made him feel loved, which he had not felt in a long time. This made Johnny start to love and care for others, since others had done the same for him. One thing that Johnny really got caught by surprise was when Cilla kissed his hand. He said nothing. He was suddenly afraid he might cry. Johnny felt like he wanted to cry because he realized that he has not been nice to anyone for a long time and that people are still nice to him. He began to feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. An Evaluation Of An Effective Manager Is Responsible For... A manager is responsible for the work of their people, inasmuch as a consistently underperforming employee relies on the direction and feedback of an effective manager. Like it or not, the system of a performance cycle was put into place to force a manager to give feedback to their employees. Every year, managers have an opportunity to assess and then reassess their employee s performance, and every year in kind, they fail to reach the mark. There are two things a manager does, or fails to do, that contribute to the success and failure of a performance cycle: fail to give real timefeedback and midcourse correction when necessary and give honest feedback during the appraisal. By utilizing the steps of the Critical Incident Method they can attempt to add value back into the system. Business Dictionary online defines the critical incident method as, Situation analysis technique in which actions or behavior of an employee (during, for example, a customer service event) is recorded and examined to ascertain the actual requirements of a successful operation (BusinessDictionary.com). By consistently doing these two things, recording and examining behavior, value can be added back into the performance cycle. Performance cycles, as the name implies, are annual reporting periods that have a beginning the plan, a middle the midterm, and an end the appraisal. Every manager is aware of the cycle, knows what is expected of them and yet they find themselves challenged when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Americans Have A Different Attitude Summary In her article, Americans Have a Different Attitude , the author Yen Le Espiritu presents the issue of immigrant groups, such as the Filipinos as viewing the United States as in immoral and untraditional state that has lost sense of it s moral values. The author begins narrating the responses she got from interviews she conducted within the Filipino community, located in San Diego, California. Many of these Filipino homes live their lives through the scope of the Filipino Way , which unlike Americans, means that they value their families, hard work, commitment, marriage and purity through sexual desires. Both of these cultures systematically oppress the female group into this typical, household wife, that needs to stay inside the home, cook dinner, prepare the meals for this husband and basically become submissive to her counterpart. Girls had to dress a certain way, they were strictly forbidden to have sex outside of marriage or face the harsh harassment from other people, they have curfews as compared to the guys, they couldn t be late out at night, they had to do all domestic work, and could never be alone with boys or else they were considered a cualquiera , which translates to slut. As a male, I feel too many burdens have been given to women in securing the family s legacy and reputation. I strongly feel that men should also be taken into consideration, not just women. • 8. My Dream Journal One of the best things I ve done in my life is that I ve constantly kept a dream journal. When I was only 14, I became interested in what dreams meant and ever since then I ve taken my dreams very seriously. I use my dreams to help me understand what is going on in my life and what I need to do going forward. If you are not currently keeping a record of your dreams, let me list the reasons why you should take this dreamjournal challenge and start! 5 Reasons To Keep A Dream Journal 1. Others Can t Interpret Your Dreams For You Everyone wakes up from time to time and wonders what did that dream mean? There are different places online you can go to get help to interpret your dreams. For instance, you can check out Dream Moods, type in ex boyfriend and get a pre written response on what it means to dream about an ex boyfriend. Some of the interpretation is pretty good, and I m not saying that it might not be an accurate interpretation for you. However, there is a good chance that it s not. The dream may not just about your ex boyfriend (or whatever you dreamt about) and some generic interpretations. In fact, there may be something else in the dream, such as a place or feeling, that is the real focus of the dream and why you are having it. When you keep a dream journal, you can write down all those little parts of the dream that make up the whole, and as you go over your dream you may find that the dream is more about something else than what you originally thought. ... • 9. The Rocket Man Analysis In the short story, The Rocket Man, an adaptation of The Illustrated Man, the author Ray Bradbury describes the life of an astronaut who is torn between living an ordinary life with his family and traveling through space on a rocket ship. The story, written in 1951, is based around how the father s space travel affects his son, Doug, and the father s relationship with his wife. The Rocket Man was written during the modern and contemporary periods of literature, a time when science fiction, new technology, and realism was forthcoming. During the 1950 s, the United States began its space program, and space travel was quickly becoming a reality. The Rocket Man was influenced by this time period in history and literature, and the story describes a futuristic place where technology is highly advanced and humans are capable of fast space travel to different planets throughout our solar system. Within the reading, the author relays themes of displeasure and unhappiness with life and the problems of a dysfunctional family. In developing these themes, Bradbury incorporates literary techniques such as first person point of view, symbolism, and plot elements like conflict and irony. Through these story elements, the author is able to develop the theme and provide the reader better insight into the story meaning and the minds of all the characters. First, the author writes the selection from the viewpoint of Doug via first person point of view. Throughout the reading, the author ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lacking commitment and ideals, I went with the flow and considered myself a normal teen. I liked shopping and adored cute animals, the typical generic qualities of a freshman girl entering high school. One night while I ritually logged onto my Facebook checking my notifications, I received a message from one of the Facebook group pages I had recently joined named cute puppies. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At one point in time God mandated man and animal to eat solely from the earth. Perhaps in one of the western world s oldest and most influential and powerful texts, there was reasoning for the implied notion of equality. He creates man and woman at a synchronized point in time, on the same day he creates all other earthly creatures again at the same time. He gives the same instructions and blessings to animals as he does to man and woman he says, God blessed them saying, be fruitful and multiply (Genesis, 1:22, 28). He also instructs both man and animal that the earth is a food source for all. The text implies that animal and human are created and instructed in an analogous fashion, as equal inhabitants of the earth, similar to the ideal against speciesism, that all of God s creatures or earth inhabitants desire the equal right to life. The same texts that seems to imply the guidelines of animal equality, is the main source of the Judeo Christian faith. Among these species, one seems to overpower every other: homosapiens. Humans have made it their duty to find a way to survive in all sorts of environments, to explore every inch of the planet, and to make the best of what they discover. There are so many things to do, so many things to create, that humans are still working to reach their full potential. One such network that shows everything there is to show is Discovery Channel. In one commercial ad, Discovery Channel uses strong persuasion skills and rhetorical devices to make viewers feel that the Earth is amazing and that the entire human race is one large planet loving group of people, all while luring people to watch their programs. The elite of Chesapeake society condoned various forms of servant exploitation in all gradations of severity. From 1607, the founding of the colony in Virginia, until 1660, Chesapeake masters abused servants in the course of their work, but only rarely denied them their rights if they reached the end of their indenture. By 1660, the system took an even more sinister turn. Tobacco planters morphed their already exploitative system into a new system that shared many parallels with slavery. The planter elite prevented freedman who had legally completed their indentures from acquiring land, which was the entire attraction of the New World. They tried to keep servants indentured for longer, and if they could not keep them as servants, they ensured that the former servant would remain in an economically servile position as a tenant, sharecropper, or laborer. • 13. Jamaican Creole Poem Analysis The Poetry within Jamaican Creole in a Linguistic Imperalised England It is clear from the poem to see how Linton feels about the racially hostile environment in which he lives. He chooses to show his social identity with his strong Jamaican accent which conveys to the reader that he is of immigrant status, this is fundamental to this poem. Within this essay, I wish to analyze his reasoning for choosing to express himself with a post colonial approach by using his Jamaican Creole and how he chooses to combat the conflict of the position of language in the development of colonization. In his most repetitive stanza, which takes the form of a chorus in spoken form, Linton says. The repetition of the word bitch Linton expresses his frustration and disappointment for British imperialism as he tries to make the most of what seems like a cemented situation and yet is still confronted with institutionalized racism. • 17. The Adventures of Ibn Battuta by Ross E. Dunn The book I chose to read for this summer assignment was The Adventures of Ibn Battuta (Revised edition) written by Ross E. Dunn. The predominant reason as to why I chose this book is because I am Moroccan descent and I had a strong desire to learn more about the rich cultures of the Arab world. I once read that those who had the last name Bencomo, which was orginally from the Canary Islands and written as Tehncomo were descendents of the Islamic traveler, Ibn Battuta. This sparked even more curiosity to learn about my ancestor s history. I heard stories from my grandmother about the Moors since her father was half Moroccan. I knew I had to learn about this since this is a part of who I am. This book mainly narrates the adventures and travels of a 14th century Muslim scholar, native of Tangier who studied law but dreamed of traveling and seeing different perspectives of the world. Ibn is described by many as the Marco Polo of the Muslim world. Ibn traveled by all means possible during his time period, horse, camel, boat, foot, and boat for approximately 29 years. The area he covered would now be the equivalent to 40 modern countries and 73,000 miles. Quotes I found most interesting were A scholar s education is greatly improved by traveling in quest of knowledge and meeting the authoritative teachers (of his time). by Ibn Khaldun pg. 27. What they have in common is that these products are an easy way to buy a group of securities at once instead of buying each security individually. The fund can also proportion the securities so you the individual investor does not have to. There are two main classifications for what type of fund you can purchase in terms of costs. It is important to know how these costs work so you can avoid paying too much for this convenience. These products differ in terms of how they are administered, access to the products and their costs. His patient was overweight so he thought that the head to chest method would not work so he needed something new. He rolled up a sheet of paper into a tube and placed one end on the patient s chest. The tube magnified sound, and Laennec found he could hear her lung sounds easily by putting his ear to the open end. The rolled up piece of paper was soon replaced by a hollow wooden tube. Somaliland was ignored by the Mogadishu based government since the 1980s. There are historical records that affirms how the wars with Barre s army was devastating, and in several accounts it was documented that during the war period its urban communities were besieged, its farmland mined, and a huge number of its inhabitants fled to neighbouring nations. Public administration institutions and business organizations vanished. Countless individuals had been executed and many thousands disrupted, their property and homes ruined and or plundered (xx, xxx). The South Galatian theory holds the strongest with the stance that it was one of the churches Paul began on his initial missionary journey. While there is no scripture to back up that the North had churches truly established according to Acts, the South had churches planted. One of the major reasons South Galatian is supported is because of the fact that it is on the journey Paul had to take to get to his home, Tarsus. The reason this theory is important is because of the cultural differences we see presented, as the Northern Galatians would tend towards heavy roman actions. Also the fact that they are under such extreme Jewish influences shows that they are very unlikely to live in the North vs. the South, because Jews were more prevalent in the Southern region. There are 2 very contrasting ideas as to when the epistle was written. One theory states that it was written in the early stages of Paul s ministry and the other states it was probably one of the last letters that Paul ever wrote . There is no indicator at all as to when this book was written, but most scholars believe that it was written around 49 A.D., considering that during the letter Paul mentions the council. While some critics may think that the character Beowulfis simply a narcissist, his characteristics make him an undeniable herofigure. It is best understood in terms of the manner in which the individual experiences the biological, psychological and socially determined situations of his existence. The new police departments were replacements for the night watch systems and relegated constables and sheriffs to serving court orders and running jails. Early police agencies were corrupt, brutal, and inefficient. (Walker, Popular Justice, 61) While some people are predisposed to criminal activity. The predisposition to crimeis formed from the biological and psychological theories of crime and criminal behavior. The earliest studies on delinquents and criminal conduct sought to explain the presence of criminal behavior based on intuitions obtained from the biological sciences. This is not to suggest that biological theories are neutral in social, psychological, or environmental correlates; rather, the organic approach to delinquency and crime believes that the physical, neuropsychological, and chemical components of human nature offer more persuasive evidence than do all other alternatives. Margaret Edson s play W;t employs dialogue and discontinuous juxtaposition in order to draw attention to the inevitable disconnect between patients and providers, which endangers successful medical engagement and outcomes. Proper communication is critical in fostering interpersonal connections. This is particularly essential in medicine, as patients and providers often communicate with strictly bureaucratic terms. The professionalism in doctor and the informality in Miss juxtaposes the two characters affluence, suggesting that the patient is subservient to the dominant medical professional. Extracting natural gas from shale reserves was not considered feasible until recently because of low permeability of the shale rock formations. New developments in hydraulic fracturing technology have led to a boom in domestic shale gas production. The United States has experienced economic benefits through revenue and job creation in predominantly rural areas while increasing the energy security of the U.S. by decreasing dependence on foreign oil supplies. However, the resounding question remains: at what cost? Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a process used to extract natural gas from deep shale reserves 5,000 8,000 feet below the ground surface. This process allows energy companies to access previously unavailable energy sources in states that have deep oil and gas reserves. The fracking process involves pumping a mixture of water, chemicals and sand at high pressure into a well, which fractures the surrounding rock formation and props open passages that allow natural gas to freely flow from rock fractures to the production well. Once the well is developed, the carrying fluid can then flow back to the ground surface along with the gas. • 49. The Human Side Of Enterprise Douglas McGregor was an American professor and psychologist who is most famous for his book, The Human Side of Enterprise, published in 1960. In this work, he conceives and examines two theories of behaviors in the workplace. They are known as Theory X and Theory Y. These distinct theories describe how individuals generally behave at work and how different types of managers might govern their employees. They have been used over the years to help managers to understand their employees needs, behavior and how to better manage their staff. These theories can be analyzed and broken down into three of many sub topics: Motivation, LeadershipStyle and Conflict Resolution. The two basic labels that McGregor created describe the assumptions that managers might make about their employees views on motivation and behavior. According to McGregor s (1960) Theory X, the average man is by nature indolent and is typically self centered and lacks ambition (p. 2). In this situation, managers are forced to act in an authoritarian manner. They must coerce their employees to do their jobs, because the assumption is that workers take little to no initiative. Silva, Mota, and Gril (2015) describe game theory and all that is involved with it as one of the most powerful tools within social science in general and economics (p. 421). With this statement, a deeper look into the measures that sum up strategic behavior and game theory is essential for an understanding of a firm s decision in the global economy. Strategic Behavior Definition As oligopolists compete for advantages in their market, they must make decisions about the approach they take. Strategic behavior is the plan the oligopolist takes after understanding all of the measures that will go into the plan as well as the opportunity costs by not choosing other plans (Salvatore, 2015). These actions are taken into consideration by the competitors in the industry as well. They then must arrange or manipulate their plan in order to compete. Role in Economics Strategic behavior is what drives a company into a competitive market with the tools to be successful. If the leaders in a company do not take into account all of the criteria that establishes a strategic behavioral plan, they will not be able to compete in the industry at their highest potential.
